Chapter 128: Blind Box Egg, Crisis?
Upon entering the underground cave.
Li Ming was still puzzled. Why would there be a basement under what was clearly an abandoned vehicle recycling plant?
“Sister Su (Sister Su), look! There are so many supplies here!”
Li Ming was thrilled. With these resources, he could survive for a good while after returning to the real world.
Excited, he started opening the boxes piled in the back and discovered they were full of canned goods.
There were fruit cans and meat cans!
Perhaps because he had been starving for a while, Li Ming’s eyes lit up. Without hesitation, he opened a can and began eating.
Of course, he didn’t forget Su Ning beside him. Excited, he said, “Sister Su, look! There are so many supplies here. We can totally wait out the survival instance here and then bring all this back with us!”
Su Ning understood his excitement. She thought all of this was found thanks to Li Ming’s [Super Luck] talent.
But she still underestimated how powerful that ability was — because something unbelievable soon happened.
In the previously empty ground, a flash of light appeared, and a wooden treasure chest materialized in front of them.
This sudden development startled both Su Ning and Li Ming.
“Whoa!” Li Ming immediately put down his can.
Su Ning, who had been on guard, nearly swore when she saw it was a treasure chest.
Because the item that suddenly appeared was none other than a [Treasure Chest] — only obtainable within the survival instance!
“This chest just… magically spawned like that?” Su Ning was stunned.
She gave Li Ming a strange look, almost feeling the urge to make him a personal mascot.
This was the first time Su Ning had seen a treasure chest come to her like a puppy wagging its tail.
Li Ming was equally baffled, though he quickly realized what the item was.
He had encountered treasure chests before. His [Bubble Blowing] talent and two other skills had come from one. But to have one just appear before him like this — this was a first.
Li Ming looked at Su Ning. Clearly, the treasure chest wasn’t his alone. But trying to hog it for himself didn’t seem like a viable option either.
So what now?
Su Ning spoke up, “Since we’re splitting the supplies equally, let’s also split whatever comes out of the chest.”
Li Ming’s eyes lit up with joy. He could sense that if Su Ning really wanted to, he wouldn’t be able to resist her at all. But she was still willing to share.
Li Ming was deeply moved. “Sister Su is such a good person!” he thought.
In reality, “good person” Su Ning simply didn’t want to risk triggering Li Ming’s [Super Luck] and suffer unintended consequences. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to kill him.
Li Ming was about to suggest Su Ning open the chest, but she stopped him. With someone who had [Super Luck] on hand, not using it would be a waste.
Li Ming was moved once again, completely unaware that Su Ning was treating him like a tool.
Ah, youth — still naïve to the dangers of the world.
Without hesitation, Li Ming opened the chest.
In his ear, the system broadcasted:
[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained — 1 Blind Box Egg]
[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained — 1 Green Apple Tree Sapling]
[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained — 2 Penguin Communicators]
Three items in total.
Li Ming took them out and handed them to Su Ning to examine.
Su Ning looked at their descriptions:
[Monster Egg: Blind Box Egg] – Functions like a blind box. Can hatch an unknown monster.
80% chance: ordinary-quality monster
15% chance: strong-quality monster
4% chance: extraordinary-quality monster
1%+ chance: extraordinary+rare-quality monster
This is a gambler’s dream, a poor man’s shot at rewriting fate!
[Spiritual Plant: Green Apple Tree] – Can bear delicious, thirst-quenching green apples. Sweet and flavorful. A very tasty spiritual fruit.
[Item: Penguin Communicator] – One-way communication device. Players who possess it can communicate across universes, dimensions, or instances. Unlimited signal, clear connection. “I represent Penguin!”
The blind box egg seemed tailor-made for someone like Li Ming. It was obvious that for an average person, they’d likely only get a regular monster. But with Li Ming’s [Super Luck], even the weakest monster hatched would likely be extraordinary.
Having a monster companion would also improve Li Ming’s safety.
As for the Green Apple Tree — that clearly seemed more suited for Su Ning.
“Now even treasure chests know how to distribute things fairly?” Su Ning mused.
Even the last item — the communicator — came in a pair. One for each of them.
“Penguin Communicator? Contact anytime, anywhere? Even across different instances?” Su Ning was shocked.
Li Ming hugged the blind box egg. It was fairly large and glowed white. From the first moment he saw it, he felt it was his. But he didn’t know how to tell Su Ning.
Su Ning noticed his hesitation and didn’t waste words.
“This egg is yours. I’ll take the sapling. We each get a communicator. That way we can stay in contact.”
She quickly divided the items.
However, Li Ming objected, waving his hands, “How can that be? In the real world, it’s all scorched earth. Nothing can grow there. If you take the plant, it’s basically useless…”
He tried to give the egg to Su Ning instead.
“Scorched earth?” Su Ning was surprised, realizing that World 123 — like her own — was also suffering a doomsday scenario. But in their case, it was a barren wasteland.
However, Su Ning didn’t need to plant things in the real world. Once her Planting Space was upgraded, she could grow anything she wanted. No worries there.
Besides, she wasn’t interested in the blind box egg, which relied on luck. She already had an unhatched monster egg. Another was unnecessary.
Su Ning replied calmly, “I only took what I actually wanted. Don’t worry about it.”
Li Ming was so touched he almost cried. “Sister Su, you’re too kind!”
He felt like, for once, using [Super Luck] hadn’t brought misfortune. Instead, it had brought him a kind and wonderful person like Su Ning. He was overjoyed.
But — some things are better left unspoken. The moment you say them out loud, they jinx you.
As Su Ning was still inspecting the surroundings, her scout bee, Bicui Bee, suddenly flew to her ear and buzzed.
Su Ning’s expression changed slightly.
“There’s movement outside?”
Not just Su Ning — even the moans of zombies echoed from beyond the cave.
“What’s that sound?”
The two quickly packed up and exited the cave.
And soon, they saw the cause.
Su Ning was stunned to see a swarm of rats attacking the zombies.
“Rats?!”
But Li Ming’s expression turned grim the moment he saw them. He cried out in disbelief, “Man-eating rats!”
“Oh? Someone here actually recognizes this lordly one?”
Su Ning looked toward the shade under a tree and saw a thin, middle-aged man.
[Player: Jin Yuan]
Talent: Rat Control – Can control any rodent-type creature.
Skill: Rat Incarnation – Can transform into a swarm of rats.
