Everywhere indicated that this place had also fallen.
Fortunately, there were no zombies on the main street.
Chu Yian drove her small electric tricycle, squeezing past the cars piled up on the roadside, and after about eight or nine hundred meters, she found a small clinic that was open.
Half of the main door was obscured.
The rolling shutter was covered in bloody handprints.
Chu Yian stopped the vehicle, looked at the person sitting next to her, and asked, “Is this place okay?”
“This one will do.”
Lu Qingyuan again placed his hand on her shoulder, his other hand picking up the only iron wrench from the vehicle.
Chu Yian supported him as they stopped at the entrance.
She went forward alone, bent down, and peered through the gap in the doorway to check the situation inside.
The pharmacy was a bit dark without lights, and it was empty inside; she didn’t see anyone. “No big issues.”
She helped Lu Qingyuan inside. First, she glanced at the pharmacy shelves, then surveyed the surroundings, and raised her hand to close the two open doors. Then she carefully checked some hard-to-see blind spots in the room.
Aside from a few pools of blood on the floor, the surroundings were safe.
Finally, she pulled the rolling shutter down a little more, leaving a gap of about twenty centimeters from the ground.
“Teacher Lu, please sit on the stool for a bit.”
With the thought of caring for the injured, Chu Yian found disinfectant alcohol, bandages, anti-inflammatory medicine, painkillers, and small tweezers for removing glass in the medicine cabinet.
Although she had the items, the technique was another matter.
Holding the tweezers and small knife, she suddenly felt as if her hands weren’t her own.
Lu Qingyuan looked at her for a moment, then took the items from her hand. “Go get some scissors and help me cut open my pants; I’ll do the rest myself.”
“Alright.”
Cutting pants was much simpler than operating on a wound.
She cut open his pants and stepped aside. Because the room was too dark, she turned on her phone’s flashlight. The surroundings instantly brightened, clearly illuminating Lu Qingyuan’s already somewhat inflamed wound.
Lu Qingyuan paused in his movements. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, it’s nothing.”
Chu Yian stood by, watching him disinfect the tweezers and small knife with alcohol, then pour an entire bottle onto the wound. He then used the tweezers to grasp the glass and pull it out with force.
The wound, which had already clotted, burst open, and blood gushed out.
Chu Yian watched as he slowly pulled the glass from his thigh. A nearly ten-centimeter piece of glass was removed, still carrying fresh red muscle tissue. Chu Yian seemed to be able to feel the pain he must have experienced at that moment.
Lu Qingyuan leaned back, his head tilted, eyes closed.
A hoarse, heavy breathing sound emerged, his neck stretching into long, taut lines. His face was paler now than before, yet he remained silent.
Chu Yian looked at him in that moment and quickly cleaned his wound again with alcohol. She sprinkled a generous amount of hemostatic powder on the wound, then wrapped it with gauze.
Next, she poured some water from the nearby water dispenser and handed him the anti-inflammatory medicine.
Lu Qingyuan took the anti-inflammatory medicine. “Give me half an hour, then we’ll leave.”
“It’s fine, we’ll leave once you’re feeling better.”
Chu Yian found another stool and sat beside him. “Teacher Lu, if you feel uncomfortable anywhere, just call me, okay?”
In this life, she had only heard of Guan Yu having bone scraped for healing, but seeing Teacher Lu pull out glass shards with his bare hands truly shocked her.
She glanced at Lu Qingyuan, who was now closing his eyes as if asleep. Just as she stood up to find a blanket for him, she suddenly heard the roar of an engine not far away.
The roar was extremely loud.
The quiet town instantly erupted with chilling roars.
Bang!
Bang bang bang—!
One of the doors Chu Yian had just closed was being slammed into.
It was zombies!
Chu Yian’s expression changed as she reached for her pistol… Lu Qingyuan also opened his eyes at this moment. He grabbed the iron wrench placed beside him, dragged his recently operated-on leg, and walked to the door that was being hit. “Stay back.”
He said this to Chu Yian.
The next moment, he opened the door that was holding back the zombies, then swung the wrench in his hand.
The wrench embedded itself in the zombie’s head, and brains splattered instantly.
Lu Qingyuan’s immense strength ensured that the zombie in the white coat was utterly dead.
Although the zombies inside the room were dealt with, the explosive sound of a motor vehicle roared past the doorway. All the zombies in the entire town were awakened, and their unique roars echoed throughout the town.
“Yo ho!”
“Come chase me, you idiots!”
“Everybody, get high!!”
Several more vehicles passed by the doorway in succession.
The shouting of a group of people, the sound of engines, and the sound of vehicles colliding… all this caused zombies from all directions to gather towards these people.
The zombies’ footsteps followed closely.
Chu Yian clearly saw countless feet passing by the pharmacy’s doorway through the rolling shutter. They were only a single rolling shutter away from hundreds, even thousands, of zombies!
Chu Yian inside the door didn’t even dare to breathe loudly.
She felt as if she was frozen in place, staring at the zombie footsteps constantly passing by the doorway, gripping the hand of the person beside her tightly.
Lu Qingyuan glanced at her, frowning slightly, but allowed her to hold his hand.
The horde of zombies at the doorway lasted for almost five minutes.
The pitter-patter of footsteps like raindrops, the continuous roars, and the extremely pungent and unpleasant smell emanating from the zombies pushed one’s nerves to the breaking point.
Fortunately, she had lowered the rolling shutter even further when they first entered.
Although she had been on edge the whole time, they were safe, if not without a scare.
As the group of suicidal bikers moved further and further away, Chu Yian relaxed a little. It was then that she realized she was still holding Lu Qingyuan’s hand, and because of her immense grip, his hand had red marks.
“I’m sorry.”
Chu Yian released his hand, then went to the water dispenser and gulped down two mouthfuls of water.
Lu Qingyuan glanced at his reddened hand, said nothing, and sat back down on the stool Chu Yian had brought over.
They waited in the pharmacy for another twenty-odd minutes.
Chu Yian glanced at the time displayed on her phone; it was now six in the afternoon, and summer days were always long. It was still bright outside. She lay on the ground and peered out through the gap in the door.
The street, trampled by the zombie horde, was a mess.
Their small tricycle parked outside was twisted into a wreck, completely totaled. There were also scattered zombies wandering aimlessly outside.
Those suicidal idiots.
Even with her good temper, Chu Yian couldn’t help but curse inwardly.
“The car outside is totaled, and there are at least eight zombies wandering around the pharmacy.”
She quietly informed Lu Qingyuan of her discovery, “It might get dark in another hour, and I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to go out now.”
“Then we’ll rest here for the night.”
Lu Qingyuan closed his eyes and continued to rest, seemingly unconcerned whether they arrived at Fulen County a little later or earlier.
It didn’t affect him, but it greatly affected Chu Yian.
So she couldn’t help but ask, “Teacher Lu, how long does it take to get to X City from here?”
“Under normal circumstances, it takes eight hours to drive.”
Eight hours.
Hearing this, Chu Yian relaxed a little. Under normal circumstances, it would take eight hours to drive, but with the zombie crisis, three days remaining was still more than enough time.
