Chapter 5: Road to Survival 4
Clutching the heavy object, Chu Yian thought, ‘Isn’t this luckier than winning two hundred million in the lottery?!’ She couldn’t help but hug the thing and kiss it twice, her will to survive instantly skyrocketing.
The moment she took out the pistol, the box’s glow faded, leaving it empty.
She began to fill the empty treasure box. Food and water were definitely necessary; she put in everything she could, and there was still plenty of space inside.
She searched her dorm room and found some band-aids and penicillin capsules in her roommate’s drawer.
And sanitary pads.
Would she need sanitary pads?
She hesitated for a moment, then ultimately put them in too.
Afterward, she found a roll of clear tape. Images of zombies tearing at people flashed through Chu Yian’s mind, and she suddenly thought that wrapping something around her body might offer some protection.

Retrieving the treasure box into her palm, she walked to the balcony to observe, beginning to consider her escape route.
There were zombies on all paths, whether leading to the teaching building, the cafeteria, or the sports ground. However, most zombies followed living people and were likely hidden in various buildings at the moment, with not many left on the roads.
The biggest difficulty would be escaping the dorm.
She didn’t know how many zombies were hidden in the entire building, nor was she clear about the situation outside.
Jump from the building?
Chu Yian looked at the lawn below and the zombies hanging out of the second and third-floor windows in the same position, immediately dismissing that idea. It seemed her only option was to use the stairs, aiming to rush out in thirty seconds.

She gently moved the various boxes blocking the door, but then stood at the doorway, staring at the doorknob for a long time.

The sound of shoes scuffing the ground and the low growls of zombies outside sounded like a death knell. If she opened that door, she had no idea if she could even make it downstairs. Perhaps she would come face-to-face with a zombie the moment she opened it, becoming their next meal.
Opening the door required courage.
But the longer she hesitated, the more her courage waned.
She turned and sat back on the chair, her mind filled with the scenes of zombies biting people she had seen earlier, her breathing becoming rapid, her heart in extreme turmoil.
After a long time, she reopened her phone’s radio function, tuning the channel to the rescue broadcast. The content of the broadcast re-entered her ears, repeatedly announcing the characteristics of zombies and the locations of safe zones.
Her emotions gradually calmed during the broadcast, and she began to analyze her current situation.
Going out to find a safe zone might mean immediate death.
Not going out to find a safe zone meant certain death in five days.
Was living an extra five days meaningful?
Gambling on the future with five days, only by finding a safe zone could there be a future.
Chu Yian’s rationality told her she had to go out; the sooner she acted, the more likely she was to reach the rescue zone. She walked back to the door, moving her body and ankles.

Rush out before the zombies can react!
Chu Yian rushed to the fifth floor in one breath, fourth floor, third floor…
In just a few seconds, Chu Yian ran at her absolute maximum speed, as if she were flying.
However, her hurried footsteps seemed to be a signal waking the zombies; in an instant, the zombies in the building were all startled and rushed towards her.
There were also zombies on the stairs!
Several zombies were blocking the staircase on the second floor.
At this moment, zombies from upstairs, downstairs, and the second-floor corridor all rushed towards her from three directions. Blood-soaked nails grazed past her eyeballs, and drooling mouths were right beside her… In a critical moment, Chu Yian threw out her treasure box with a backhand. Under her mental control, the treasure box instantly expanded and smashed towards the zombies in the stairwell.

The path ahead cleared. Chu Yian passed the treasure box, touched it to her palm to retrieve it, and sprinted wildly downstairs. Around a corner, the bicycle she had ridden earlier lay overturned by the roadside, surrounded by bloodstains.

The zombie, dressed in a dorm manager’s uniform, was practically biting her arm off. The clear tape and books wrapped around her arm were severely deformed by its tearing.

Chu Yian was completely distraught. She righted the bicycle, leaped onto it, and furiously pedaled through the school. The bicycle chain almost sparked from her frantic pedaling.
There were simply too many zombies.

More and more zombies gathered around, forming solid walls of zombies in front, behind, and to her left. Chu Yian trembled with tension. To avoid the zombies, she swerved into an alley beside a large building to her right.
There were still zombies inside.
One of them was circling a small tricycle marked with “Feng Express.” Upon seeing Chu Yian, it lunged at her rapidly.
Chu Yian gripped the bicycle, drifted to shake off the zombie, and the next second she saw something on the small tricycle floating towards it again—
It was the key!
Two-wheeled pedaling couldn’t compare to an electric tricycle. Chu Yian decisively abandoned her bicycle and jumped onto the small tricycle. She closed the doors on both sides and sped away on the electric tricycle.
The tricycle was not only faster because it was electric, but its metal shell also provided a greater sense of security than a bicycle. Chu Yian instantly upgraded her ride, driving the small tricycle through the zombie-infested campus with lightning speed.
Zombies constantly rushed towards the small vehicle.
Chu Yian, with her flashy maneuvering, managed to crash her way to the back school gate.
The school gate was also a mess.
Various cars of different sizes were jammed together due to a chain collision, and several zombies surrounded these vehicles. Hearing the sound of the tricycle, the zombies lunged at her. Chu Yian drove at maximum speed, bursting out through the pedestrian passage.
The moment she emerged, she knocked over a tent pitched at the entrance, and the pursuing zombies were covered by the tent.
Hearing the commotion behind her, Chu Yian looked back.
She suddenly noticed that in the middle of the pile-up, there seemed to be a living person inside a black car.
A living person.
Should she save them?
Chu Yian squeezed the tricycle’s brake, her heart struggling for a second.
