Chapter 45: Super Mold 9
It was 2 PM on the fifth day of the game.
Chu Yian finally woke up.
Although her body still felt weak, her fever had receded.
Survival had to continue!
She entered the living room and took out the seasonings and rice she had brought back yesterday from their bags. In just one day, the surfaces of these items had already grown mold.
Chu Yian boiled water again to thoroughly clean the rice and seasonings, then placed them all in the refrigerator and freezer.
The refrigerator and freezer, which had been empty at first, were now full. Honestly, she had enough food to last through the rest of the game.
Chu Yian decided to stop looking for food and instead gather other supplies.
Maps, survival kits, and weapons!
Chu Yian rubbed her tired eyes, knowing that if she was alone, it would be difficult to protect herself without weapons. When order breaks down, people don’t reason with you; they only care about whose fist is bigger.
Chu Yian cooked two packs of instant noodles, luxuriously adding shrimp and luncheon meat. Even so, it still tasted like chewing on wax.
After eating, she washed her face, forcing herself to perk up. She put a cleaver in her backpack, practiced a few left and right hooks in front of the mirror, and then left with a determined air.
Before she left, she searched for ‘wilderness survival kit’ and found that the first item to prepare was cutlery.
Following the instructions, she first went to buy a fixed-blade survival knife and a multi-tool Swiss Army knife. While buying the survival knife, she also bought a belt. She tied the belt around her waist, allowing her to place the survival knife in an easily accessible, hidden position, ready to be drawn at any moment.
A survival kit also required a metal lunchbox.
The compressed biscuits Chu Yian bought were already in a metal tin, so she didn’t need to prepare that.
Next was a first-aid kit.
The book suggested preparing Yunnan Baiyao, triangular bandages, and band-aids. But since her box was large enough, she also bought some anti-inflammatory, fever-reducing, pain-relieving, and bruise-healing medications, as well as disinfectants like rubbing alcohol and povidone-iodine for wound cleaning.
Compass, sewing kit, three lighters, flashlight (four spare batteries), two candles, two rolls of aluminum foil — all purchased!
She already had food.
The guide also said to prepare a water filter.
However, there was no way she would know how to use such a thing; bottled mineral water was much more direct and convenient.
Due to food shortages, many shop owners had closed their businesses. Chu Yian had to walk a long way to gather these items, and they were ridiculously expensive, costing her a full five thousand yuan!
The further into the game, the less valuable money became.
Of Chu Yian’s original fifty thousand yuan, she had eighteen thousand left. Now, after spending five thousand, she only had thirteen thousand. However, even so, she was still wealthier than most players who had just entered the game.
With weapons and a survival kit, she only lacked paper maps. This was simple enough: she took out her phone, opened it, and directly searched for city maps, national maps, and world maps. Then she just needed to print these maps out.
Chu Yian painstakingly found a print shop again, paying an exorbitant 300 yuan to persuade the owner to open the shop, start the machines, and print three A3-sized maps.
As Chu Yian walked out, clutching the maps, a young man suddenly darted out from outside.
She quickly took a step back, her hand gripping the survival knife at her waist.
After the two incidents yesterday, Chu Yian, though appearing calm, had actually been under constant mental strain. The man suddenly blocking her truly startled her.
“Miss, don’t misunderstand, I’m not here to cause trouble.”
Seeing her face turn pale, the man quickly raised both hands, “I just wanted to ask, are you looking to buy a car? I have a brand new Hummer with excellent performance, a fair and reasonable price, and I’ll trade it for food like compressed biscuits or instant noodles.”
“No, I don’t have any food.”
Chu Yian refused without thinking.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want a car, but she didn’t have a driver’s license. When order was still intact, she couldn’t drive on the road. When order was gone… would she even need to buy a car?
The man looked at the maps she was holding and seemed about to say something more to her, but he apparently saw someone and quickly ran off.
“Stop!”
“You brat, don’t run!”
“You damn swindler, stop right there!”
Four burly men chased after him. Three of them pursued the man relentlessly, while the other stopped in front of Chu Yian.
This man scrutinized Chu Yian from head to toe, “What’s your relationship with that guy?”
Chu Yian: “He asked me to buy his car.”
“Damn it!”
The big brother cursed. He had thought they were in cahoots, but it turned out she was a victim. “Don’t trust him, that kid’s a professional swindler!”
With that, he resumed his chase…
Chu Yian wasn’t too bothered by the small interlude.
She took her newly purchased supplies, intending to return early. Staying outside was too dangerous.
As a Residential Area for the wealthy, their response to the food crisis was actually the same.
Hoard food, stock up on supplies.
It was just that they drove expensive vehicles and didn’t need to worry too much about money; the more money they had, the more they could buy.
Amidst the constant stream of luxury cars, Chu Yian’s small tricycle looked particularly shabby. The villa district ahead was where the city’s most powerful and influential people lived, and it was a place Chu Yian passed every time.
As usual, people were constantly moving supplies into their homes. Her gaze swept over the area, and suddenly she saw a familiar figure—
Outside a detached villa, two all-black cars were parked at the entrance. Four men in suits with sunglasses stood guard around them, waiting for a tall, slender man to get into the car.
Even if it was just a back view, Chu Yian immediately recognized who it was.
“Teacher Lu!”
At her shout, Lu Qingyuan, who had been about to get into the car, paused and looked towards the source of the sound.
Across the road, an unfamiliar girl stood beside a dilapidated tricycle, her nose slightly red and her eyes moist as she looked at him.
Did he know her?
Lu Qingyuan confirmed that he didn’t seem to have met this person before.
He was about to get into the car when he saw the girl suddenly rush over.
The bodyguards around would not let her pass; if she forced her way through, she would be treated as a dangerous person. Lu Qingyuan didn’t know why, but he actually ignored his own safety and, out of a sudden moment of kindness, took two steps forward.
He happened to step out of the bodyguards’ range, only to be knocked back by the rushing girl.
Seeing this, all four bodyguards surrounded them, nervously looking at the person who had suddenly rushed out.
Lu Qingyuan raised his hand, signaling them not to approach. On the other hand, he himself couldn’t believe this was an action he would make.
“Teacher Lu, I finally met you again!”
Chu Yian hugged him tightly, unaware of how dangerous her situation was. The fear and helplessness that had been weighing on her heart instantly erupted.
“I’m so scared, I’m so scared! Woo —”
She cried uncontrollably, her head aching, unable to stop. She was releasing the fear from killing yesterday, and even the deeper fear that had been hidden since the game first began.
