Chapter 9: Villa No. 5
Staring at the WeChat message from her future self, Fang Xiaocao was stunned.
“The truth?”
“Future me actually knows the truth?”
She was in shock.
“You know the truth? Has the case been solved in the future?”
She quickly typed and sent her questions.
After hearing that eerie story, she was desperate to know the truth.
Where did the wife go?
Why did the murderer disappear?
These were the questions that kept nagging at her.
More importantly, she was about to become the owner of this villa. If she didn’t know the full story, how could she possibly live there with peace of mind?
What if, one day, the wife suddenly appeared inside the villa…
She might just cry from sheer terror.
A new message popped up on her screen:
【Hot Noodles: Of course I know. Buy this villa, and I’ll tell you.】
Seeing her future self’s message, Fang Xiaocao rolled her eyes.
Such a tease. Is this really my future self? Since when did I become this annoying?
【Hot Noodles: Oh, by the way, check out the bounty for this case.】
Curious, Fang Xiaocao logged into the local forum and searched for information on the case.
One look, and she nearly drooled.
Bounty Notice:
All proceeds from the villa’s sale will be used as a bounty for solving this case.
- Signed: The father of the villa’s male owner.
- Verified by Tang City Police Department. The bounty is valid.
“Wait… does this mean I can get the house for free?!”
She was in disbelief.
Her future self already knew the truth.
If she could obtain the truth, she could buy the villa and then claim the bounty money, essentially getting the house for free.
Left hand to right hand—it’s just a transfer!
…Wait.
Transferring money between hands means paying taxes twice…
That meant she’d lose a lot of money.
She already felt the pain in her wallet.
All the taxes would come out of her pocket!
【Hot Noodles: Heartbroken over the money? You’re buying a luxury villa for a few hundred thousand. Isn’t that a steal?】
“Huh?”
“That… actually makes sense!”
Fang Xiaocao blinked and muttered to herself.
“Xiaocao, what are you mumbling about?”
Beside her, Liu Feifei looked at her curiously.
“Huh?”
“N-Nothing!”
Fang Xiaocao jolted and quickly changed the subject.
“Sis, let’s go see the house!”
She started the car and drove toward Jun Yue Villa District.
Seeing this, Liu Feifei let go of her doubts.
Fifteen Minutes Later
Her BMW Mini drove into Jun Yue Villa District.
Upon entering, she paid close attention to the security measures in place.
And all she could say was—this was indeed a high-end villa district.
At the entrance, the security guards were tall, well-built, and handsome. Patrol teams roamed the roads, full of young, energetic men. All incoming cars required registration unless owned by a resident.
Random visitors, taxis, and delivery personnel? Strictly prohibited without owner approval.
This gave Fang Xiaocao an overwhelming sense of security.
That serial killer, the one who disguised himself as a deliveryman and had been hunting her for ages, wouldn’t be able to sneak in here.
Following Liu Feifei’s directions, she parked in front of Villa No. 5.
“Villa No. 5—that’s the haunted house,” Liu Feifei said, stepping out of the car.
“But don’t be fooled by the rumors. The current owner hires us for weekly cleaning services.”
“All appliances, wiring, and household systems are regularly maintained by us and the property management team.”
“After the crime scene was released, the current owner—the male owner’s father—lived here for a while. So, a lot of the furniture and appliances have been replaced.”
“When he lost hope in solving the case, he moved back to his hometown. Before leaving, he entrusted our agency with the villa’s sale and, with police approval, issued a bounty.”
As she spoke, she took out the villa’s keys.
Hearing this, Fang Xiaocao’s eyes lit up.
She thought she was just buying an empty shell.
She figured she’d have to renovate and buy all the furniture and appliances herself.
But now, she realized—it was a fully furnished, luxury home.
At most, she’d have to replace some old appliances and buy daily necessities.
For a few hundred thousand? Totally worth it!
“Wait… does this mean I can move in right away after buying it?”
She asked, blinking.
“Yep, exactly.”
Liu Feifei nodded.
“The bedding and linens are brand-new, hotel-grade, and regularly replaced.”
“The owner isn’t short on money. He specifically instructed us to keep the villa move-in ready. He considers whoever solves the case a great benefactor to his family, so he doesn’t want them to be inconvenienced.”
Liu Feifei smiled and unlocked the front door.
“Come on in and take a look!”
“If you ignore the crime history, this place is amazing.”
“Rich people are just too superstitious. They think it’s unlucky. Those who don’t care about superstition can’t afford it. That’s why it hasn’t sold.”
She chuckled.
Stepping inside, Fang Xiaocao was stunned.
The luxurious decor. The spotless interior. The massive floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing warm sunlight to flood the villa.
The place felt bright, warm, and cozy.
Not a single trace of gloom or eeriness.
Liu Feifei was right—it didn’t feel like a haunted house.
It felt like a dream home.
She toured every inch of the villa, from the ground floor to the upper level, before nodding in satisfaction.
“Sis, let’s sign the contract!”
Fang Xiaocao grinned.
“You’re really sure?” Liu Feifei chuckled. “Won’t you be scared living here alone at night?”
“Not at all!”
Fang Xiaocao patted her chest.
“This doesn’t feel like a haunted house—it’s a luxury house!”
She giggled.
“Alright, then. I’ll head back to get the paperwork. Once the contract is signed, our company will handle all the legal processes for you—you won’t need to do anything.”
Liu Feifei smiled, clearly thrilled.
This sale meant a huge bonus for her.
“Great! Thanks, sis!”
Fang Xiaocao beamed.
“Need a ride back to the office?”
She asked.
“No need. There’s a shuttle in the villa district. I’ll take that and grab a taxi outside.”
With that, Liu Feifei left Villa No. 5.
[Ding!]
Just then, Fang Xiaocao’s phone buzzed.
She glanced at the screen.
A WeChat message.
She opened it.
【Hot Noodles: In the attic, under the second window’s sill, there’s a hidden compartment. Inside, there’s something very important.】
