Chapter 322: The Package from Comrade Ji
“Ah, it’s not something that happens overnight. I’m your auxiliary system. I need the host’s life to reach certain breakthroughs to accumulate more energy. The energy required to level up to the next stage is huge, and we’re far from that right now,” sighed the little turtle, shaking its head.
Ning Xiyue patted its head. “Sighing? How much more do we need?”
The little turtle glanced at her cautiously:
“Fifty percent. Based on your current situation, I estimate that only if you get a good score in the college entrance exam—top three in the province—will the system have a chance to fully charge and reach the next level.”
Ning Xiyue: …
So now she knew: leveling up the system was difficult. Even swallowing that one spirit fragment back then hadn’t given it much energy.
“That’s a huge gap—half! There’s nothing we can do. For the remaining year or so, you’ll have to endure temptation while I ‘watch’ you eat. When the exams come, I’ll supervise you studying and reviewing—top three in the province isn’t easy.”
The little turtle looked determined: “Host, keep it up. I believe in you. Whether I can have a physical form depends on you.”
“Alright, for you to enjoy delicious food, I’ll study hard. You also have to work with me—we’ll strive together.”
“I’ll assist you well, host.”
Ning Xiyue clenched her fist and tapped it against the turtle’s paw, sealing the pact.
“Okay, this is for later. The main task right now is the meat in front of us.”
She tested the temperature; it was no longer hot. She picked up six glass jars she had prepared for canned fruit—three for the rabbit dice, three for the meat sauce.
One each for her family, her eldest brother, and Comrade Ji.
After filling those, plenty remained. She took two large jars, just enough to fill them, for her and her second brother to eat.
In a blink, twenty jin of meat had turned into eight jars of cooked food.
Using the fully automatic kitchen, she specially sealed the six jars that were to be mailed, ensuring they would stay fresh longer and not leak during transport.
Seeing all eight neatly arranged in front of her, Ning Xiyue left the space satisfied.
It was almost mealtime.
She got up, packed her things, closed the door, and left.
After a few steps, a bicycle bell rang behind her, and a hurried voice called out: “Comrade Ning, wait, you have a package.”
Ning Xiyue stopped and signed for a large package from Comrade Ji.
On the way, she stopped by her second brother’s place, left a message for him to come eat, and wobbled back.
She returned early. No one else had finished work, and after opening the canteen, no one had come back to cook. The entire youth hostel was currently empty except for her.
She could indulge herself a little, letting the automatic kitchen help knead the dough.
She opened the large package from Comrade Ji. Inside were: Food; a set of spring clothes; a floral dress and a pair of little leather shoes.
Of course, Comrade Ji had thoughtfully bought a set of clothes for her second brother as well.
There was also a letter, saying he would go to a military university in Shanghai for a three-month short-term study, asking her to send letters to the school.
The package had arrived just in time—she hadn’t yet mailed her own letters and packages.
Three months of training?
Could this mean he was being promoted?
If so, Ning Xiyue felt genuinely happy for him.
She thought for a moment, took out the letter she had written to Comrade Ji that morning, and added a few words of praise at the end.
After finishing, she kneaded the dough. She bundled the package and went to start the fire for pulling noodles.
By the time Ning Qingyuan hurried back from work, Ning Xiyue was already kneading the noodles, and the water in the pot was boiling.
Seeing the fire under the pot didn’t require tending, he washed his hands and joined her in pulling noodles.
The siblings worked together, and within a few minutes, they had pulled a batch of noodles—enough for the two of them.
After cooking, they put the noodles into two porcelain bowls larger than their faces. Each sibling carried a bowl to the table.
Ning Xiyue opened the two jars on the table and put two clean soup spoons inside.
Large scoops of bright red meat sauce and spicy rabbit dice went on top of the noodles, whetting their appetites.
They ate seriously.
Ning Qingyuan finished a huge bowl, drinking all the broth, then rubbed his stomach lazily and said: “Little sister, this meat sauce Comrade Ji sent back is really delicious. There’s still half the dough left—let’s eat noodles tonight too.”
Ning Xiyue didn’t need an excuse; Ning Qingyuan automatically assumed it was from Comrade Ji.
She didn’t correct him and went along: “Okay, then let’s continue. Tomorrow I’ll mail letters and buy some more meat to cook. If there’s anything you want, I’ll get it for you.”
