Chapter 3: Identity Crisis
The C3-level guy was right next to the bald man, his voice very low.
If we assumed the bald man was the highest here, A8, then this guy’s C3 was the lowest.
Bai Cha’s light-colored pupils swept across everyone present.
How could that be?
Unless she wasn’t a newbie level. For example, if Yu Zhenzhen had played the game before and was now pulling her into the game as a substitute, perhaps she had taken Yu Zhenzhen’s level.
Or maybe she wasn’t counted, and the others here were equivalent.
“What about the others? What level are you?” The bald man turned his gaze back to Bai Cha.
Bai Cha had just opened her panel and hadn’t had time to close it. She could see the number of floating comments suddenly increase.
[Hahaha this newbie seems to be targeted by Brother Cai]
[Having some petty cleverness is useless. Although she managed to muddle through just now, she probably doesn’t even know what her level is now]
[I bet she’ll die within half an hour]
Bai Cha remained calm, bit her lip, and said, “I’m also C3.”
As she spoke, she glanced at the C3 guy.
He was clearly shocked.
“How is that possible? I’m the one! Is there another A8 here?”
A hint of grievance appeared in Bai Cha’s eyes, and she lowered her head, no longer speaking.
[Ha, she really dares to lie]
[Speechless, how could this weakling have survived to C level? But it’s not certain, she is quite good-looking, maybe she relied on her looks to reach C level, hehe]
[I’m more curious about how Brother Cai will kill her after she exposes her newbie identity]
Bai Cha wasn’t affected by the comments. On the contrary, she hoped they would say more. The comments seemed to reveal some information as well.
Baldy Brother Cai looked at Bai Cha and the C3 guy, then turned to the others.
“What about you guys? Introduce yourselves.”
The remaining three people were an A5 male, paired with the bespectacled B3 male.
Another girl with a ponytail was B9, she didn’t need anyone to balance her. The guy in the black hoodie looked ordinary and unremarkable, he was A6, paired with the short-haired woman.
So…
Everyone’s gaze landed on the C3 guy and Bai Cha.
[Hahahaha I knew she would be exposed]
[Actually daring to tell such a lie, she might as well have just admitted she was a newbie and tried to latch onto someone powerful]
[It’s over now, she was so pretty, I wanted to watch her for a while longer]
“Interesting.” Brother Cai stood up almost immediately, walked over, and pulled Bai Cha up.
“You, lied.”
A hint of excitement was on his face, and an axe had appeared in his hand at some point.
The axe blade was chipped, looking very old, with remnants of black, dried, and unremovable bloodstains on it.
Fear was on Bai Cha’s face, but she wasn’t panicked.
She put on a very earnest and sincere expression, explaining, “I really am C3.”
She didn’t know what reason this bald guy named Brother Cai had for absolutely needing to kill newbies, but she didn’t want to die.
She used a skill.
Flower of Lies lv.0.
“Then bring up your panel information and show me!”
Bai Cha’s body trembled as she clicked open her panel. However, her inner self was very calm.
After her thought moved and she used the skill, she received a system prompt.
[Skill used successfully. Lie: I am indeed a C3-level player. Lie has taken effect. Remaining skill uses: 2.]
Her personal panel opened, and a new line appeared in her personal information.
[Name: Bai Cha Level: C3. Other personal privacy information not displayed, viewable only by the player.]
Much of the information displayed externally on the panel was censored, only visible to Bai Cha herself.
Including the content in the parentheses after the level.
[Remaining effective time of this lie: 00:01:59. After the effect ends, the true level F… calculation error… recalculating for you… error in player information… will be corrected after this instance ends, wishing you a happy life.]
Bai Cha lowered her eyes slightly.
As expected…
She was here in place of Yu Zhenzhen.
So, as long as she could survive until the end of this instance, she could go back?
Thinking about this now was meaningless, it only made her headache worse.
And Brother Cai, after checking her panel information, put away his axe with some disappointment.
But he still sized Bai Cha up, sneering, “Someone like you could also level up to C3? By using your face?”
Bai Cha didn’t make a sound, just shrank her body slightly.
The short-haired woman looked deeply at Bai Cha and said, “Brother Cai, I don’t think delaying any longer is meaningful. Having two C3s now means someone is lying. What about your panel?”
The C3 guy quickly showed his panel to them.
[Name: Zhong Man. Level: C3. Other personal privacy information not displayed, viewable only by the player.]
Both of them were C3.
Brother Cai’s expression was unpleasant.
Then, he suddenly raised his axe and swung it towards Bai Cha.
Bai Cha’s heart pounded wildly, but she didn’t dodge, mainly because she couldn’t.
The axe stopped right in front of Bai Cha’s forehead.
Bai Cha felt a stinging sensation between her eyebrows; the skin on her forehead was almost torn.
“Hmph!” Brother Cai didn’t see the expected effect and irritably withdrew his axe.
“Show me all of your panels!”
Bai Cha slowly let out a breath, her body feeling weak. She leaned on the sofa and sat down.
After such a scare, she was covered in cold sweat, and the cold air around her blew on her, surprisingly making her headache go away. Because her temperature was probably 38.7 degrees Celsius now.
When a fever gets high enough, it stops hurting, only causing dizziness.
Bai Cha closed her eyes and used the back of her hand to cool her forehead, trying to calm herself down.
That Brother Cai was not a good person. He kept trying to confirm if she was a newbie, most likely because he could directly attack newbies but not non-newbie players.
So, it was highly probable that players couldn’t kill each other. But logically, shouldn’t newbies have more preferential treatment?
Or was it a personal skill issue?
She couldn’t be sure of these things for now, so she first looked at the others who had opened their panels.
Everyone’s panels were fine.
Brother Cai’s face immediately turned very ugly.
They hadn’t even started looking for clues in the instance yet, and there was already a problem with the players.
The hoodie guy, Wang Xuming, spoke, “There’s no point in dwelling on this now. It’s also possible that the instance really pulled in a player with a slightly lower level, it’s not unheard of.”
“Let’s go find clues, everyone. If we keep wasting time here, we’ll all die. Don’t forget, we only have three nights. If we can’t clear the instance before the arrival of the third night…”
Brother Cai glanced at him, displeased, but didn’t say anything.
This guy was A6 level, and a direct confrontation wouldn’t be worth it.
“Then let’s split into groups of two,” he said forcefully, determined to be the leader.
Wang Xuming shrugged, having no objections.
Bai Cha immediately grabbed the short-haired woman Xiao Xiao’s hand.
“Then the two of us will be together.”
Xiao Xiao didn’t say anything. Brother Cai glanced at them but didn’t stop them.
Bai Cha clearly looked like she would be a burden. There were dangers in finding clues, and he certainly wouldn’t bring such a drag along.
Brother Cai directly pointed at Wang Xuming and said, “Then you’ll be with me. The rest of you can pair up yourselves.”
Saying that, he turned and left.
Wang Xuming smiled, stood up, and followed him.
Xiao Xiao also stood up and said, “Why don’t we all go check out our own rooms first?”
Bai Cha silently followed her until they returned to their room.
Xiao Xiao turned her head, her gaze sharp.
“Are you really a newbie?”
