Chapter 28: Going to the Fourth Floor
“Where is he…”
The figure outside made a harsh, slow sound, seemingly dragging a chain that scraped against the ground.
Bai Cha looked at the person beside her, even though he probably couldn’t see her expression in the dark environment.
But she really wanted to ask, what next?
After luring the guesthouse people over, what was the next step?
They couldn’t just hide here, could they?
The space inside the closet was small. Bai Cha tried to stick as close as possible to the side of the closet.
She hated this kind of confined environment.
Not to mention there was another person beside her at this moment, and the smell of decay filled the space.
Wang Xuming suddenly stuffed something into her hand.
It felt like a bead.
Bai Cha temporarily suppressed her irritability. In the current situation, Wang Xuming was clearly the one in control.
She was particularly prone to anxiety in this kind of environment, but she had to suppress it and wait for Wang Xuming’s next move.
The thing outside walked around the room and then headed towards the closet.
“I found you…”
A hint of joy was revealed in the unpleasant voice. The thing even impatiently opened the closet.
After a brief moment of surprise and doubt, Bai Cha calmed down and stood there motionless.
Although she didn’t know what Wang Xuming wanted to do, he was very strong and very familiar with the instance.
He couldn’t have not anticipated the current situation.
Moreover, even if they were really discovered, Bai Cha had no other choice.
Strength was her greatest weakness.
And as she expected, even though the closet door was opened, they were not discovered.
The thing looked like an old man. But he was hairless all over, his skin was greenish-black, and he exuded a foul odor.
His eyes were dull yellow. As he leaned closer to look inside the closet, his face even brushed past Bai Cha’s face.
Bai Cha suppressed the urge to vomit that churned in her stomach and stood there motionless.
“Where is he…”
As the thing spoke, a rotten, bloody smell came from its mouth.
Bai Cha’s expression twisted for a moment. This was really unfriendly to her, whose body was still very weak and whose stomach wasn’t very good.
Wang Xuming beside her wasn’t feeling much better either, standing there expressionlessly.
The thing even reached out its hand.
Bai Cha could clearly feel his hand brush across her body.
Her hair stood on end. That sticky, slimy touch, like that of a venomous snake covered in mucus, gave her goosebumps.
She clenched the bead in her hand. The bead emitted a cold sensation.
Bai Cha could roughly guess that this bead must be concealing their figures.
The thing finally failed to find the two of them. Disappointed, it dragged the iron chain and moved towards the door.
Bai Cha breathed a sigh of relief.
Wang Xuming grabbed her wrist and winked at her.
Bai Cha frowned, didn’t shake him off, and followed him.
Wang Xuming’s posture clearly indicated that he wanted to follow that thing.
The thing was also quite alert. After taking two steps, it suddenly turned its head sharply.
But it still didn’t see anyone, even though Wang Xuming and Bai Cha were right behind it.
The two of them left room 305.
The lights in the corridor were dim and flickering. For some reason, the light was a bit dark and red.
Bai Cha looked around. This was completely different from when they came in.
The walls had become dilapidated and moldy, and there was even stagnant water left in the corners.
The air was also filled with the smell of decay and dampness, and the door panels had become old and worn.
The only thing that was the same as when they came in was that the pushed-open door was not closed properly.
Bai Cha even saw the bodies of herself and Xiao Xiao lying on the bed in room 306.
A faint idea arose in her mind, but she wasn’t quite sure.
When they reached the stairs, Bai Cha didn’t find it surprising at all when she saw the extra floor.
The thing in front dragged its long chains, step by step, up the stairs.
Wang Xuming released her hand and pointed downstairs. Although he didn’t speak, his meaning was clear.
She could choose to go downstairs according to the rules at this moment.
But she could also go up.
Wang Xuming had already started walking upstairs.
Compared to survival under the rules, Bai Cha certainly wanted to know what was behind it all even more.
After all, she had told quite a few lies to survive, and regarding the front desk alone, she had to kill it.
Whether the dodder could kill the front desk was unknown. She couldn’t bet everything on a skill she had never used before.
So, she just glanced downstairs and followed Wang Xuming upstairs.
After the turn, on the fourth floor, what appeared was a place with the same layout as the first floor.
The only difference was the hand seal of the Buddha statue at the front desk’s position, which was different.
Other than that, even the board game laid out on the table was the same as on the first floor.
The thing dragged its heavy footsteps towards the dining room and finally entered the kitchen.
And Bai Cha even saw Brother Cai’s body lying on the floor in the dining room.
She looked at Wang Xuming, who didn’t continue forward, with a questioning gaze.
Wang Xuming made a shushing gesture and pointed towards the stairs behind them.
At this moment, the stairs no longer led downstairs; there were only stairs going up. It was as if this really was the first floor.
