Chapter 10: What Should We Do Then?
“Thank you for your feedback. The front desk has been notified. Please make your way to the sofa to rest for a moment.”
Bai Cha hung up the phone and walked out from behind the reception counter.
Xiao Xiao steadied her, discovering that her body was scarily scorching to the touch—seemingly even hotter than when she had brought her downstairs just a moment ago.
“You… forget it…”
Saying anything now was pointless; they could only wait for the front desk receptionist to come assess the situation.
Wang Xuming sized up Bai Cha, unable to gauge whether she was genuinely trying to find a way to get medicine because her physical body truly couldn’t hold out any longer, or if she simply possessed immense courage and was testing the boundaries of the rules.
Then again, the two possibilities weren’t mutually exclusive.
Bai Cha actually wanted to drink a bit of water, yet none seemed to be available here.
Trapped in the instance for three days, the food was inedible, and there didn’t even seem to be water provided.
This was going to be exceptionally troublesome.
While all three remained in silent contemplation, footsteps echoed down from upstairs.
The receptionist, sporting that plaster mask of a face, walked over with a box of medicine in hand.
“The medicine you requested.”
Wang Xuming raised an eyebrow slightly; he actually handed it over.
Bai Cha took the medicine and looked at it.
“Ibuprofen…” She let out a sigh. “This won’t work on me. Do you have paracetamol?”
The receptionist’s face had lacked expression to begin with, but after her words fell, it seemed to grow even uglier.
“Besides, is there any water? How am I supposed to take the medicine without it?”
Bai Cha’s face was the picture of complete earnestness.
If she turned on the bullet chat right now, she would discover that the comments were utterly flooded with mockery targeting her sheer courage and naive innocence.
[She actually dares to haggle?! Does she genuinely think this receptionist is some kind of good-natured NPC?]
[LOL! Only a total newbie would have this kind of guts!]
[Don’t say that, guys. Look at the state she’s in—if she doesn’t take a gamble, she probably won’t even survive at all.]
The receptionist raised a hand slowly, pointing toward the main entrance.
“The front desk is not responsible for providing these. If you require them, you may step outside and purchase them at the convenience store.”
Bai Cha took note of the fact that he used the term “the front desk,” not “the guesthouse.”
In theory, the receptionist ought to be an employee hired by the guesthouse, yet the rules governing the two entities were separated.
Bai Cha thus said, “In that case, could you please accompany me there? I’m unfamiliar with the area, and if you happen to know where a nearby clinic is, that would be even better.”
From the moment she uttered her very first sentence, a horrifying aura radiated outward from the receptionist, leaving Xiao Xiao too terrified to move a muscle at will.
Wang Xuming, on the other hand, stared at Bai Cha with a look of pure wonder.
He truly couldn’t tell whether Bai Cha was acting out of a desperate need to live and thus required medicine, or if she simply possessed insane courage.
Even if this receptionist fell within the boundaries of the rules under current circumstances and wouldn’t trigger death conditions, that didn’t mean he was safe to deal with.
In that eerie, peculiar tone of his, the receptionist rasped, “Did you not state that the faucet in your room has an issue? I must go resolve it for you. Seek someone else.”
As he spoke, those pitch-black pupils of his glinted with murderous intent, fixing a glare on Bai Cha.
It wasn’t as if Bai Cha failed to sense it—that icy, chilling sensation, akin to a venomous snake crawling over her body.
She was merely probing the receptionist to gauge roughly where his bottom line lay.
Judging by the situation now, the receptionist remained bound by the rules. As long as she refrained from violating the death rules, he shouldn’t be able to kill her.
Naturally, this wasn’t an absolute rule, but hadn’t the trial only just begun?
Bai Cha offered a weak, faint smile, saying, “Of course. You may go help us resolve the faucet issue first, and then please accompany me outside to buy water and medicine, alright? I believe providing basic drinking water and medical care falls within a reasonable scope for any guesthouse.”
The receptionist cast a cold glare at her, stepping aside to make way.
“Then I hope you do not regret this!”
“Please lead the way to your room, guests.”
Only then did Xiao Xiao help Bai Cha to her feet.
She really wanted to say something, yet things had already developed to this point.
Speaking of which, before the third day arrived, could they truly step outside the guesthouse?
The receptionist followed a mere two paces behind them, the biting cold radiating from his body causing the hairs on their backs to stand on end continuously.
Wang Xuming trailed behind them, arriving at Room 306 together.
The receptionist pushed open the bathroom door directly, stepping inside before pulling it shut behind him.
Without knowing how he went about repairing it, a blood-curdling shriek echoed from inside not long after he stepped in.
Bai Cha naturally knew that it belonged to the female ghost.
Would the receptionist kill the female ghost, though? Likely not.
She didn’t believe for a second that after fixing the faucet this time, they wouldn’t run into it again the next time they entered the bathroom.
Wang Xuming spoke up from the side, “Hey, why do you insist on making him go outside with you? What if he’s no longer restricted by rules once outside? You’ll be a goner.”
Xiao Xiao had originally wanted to ask the same question.
With things having come to this, however, asking could no longer alter a thing.
“What should we do then? Will you come with me?” Bai Cha countered with a question.
Wang Xuming: “…”
“There’s no water, no food, and no medicine here, plus there are weird entities lurking about. With me being sick continuously, surviving here for three days is virtually impossible.” Bai Cha let out a soft sigh, a delicate, pitiable look surfacing across her face.
Running a high fever right now, her eye sockets and cheeks were flushed red, while her lips were dry, cracked, and completely devoid of color—she truly looked quite pitiful.
Wang Xuming fell silent as well.
Viewed from this angle, taking a gamble was indeed necessary.
Click—
The bathroom door was pushed open, and the receptionist stepped out from inside.
He cast a cold gaze toward Bai Cha.
“Let us depart, guest.”
