Chapter 11: Parasitic Host
Xiao Xiao looked at Bai Cha with worry.
The front desk staff had already taken the key and opened the door of the guest-house.
Outside the door, the same scene as on the flyer appeared.
A huge Buddha statue stood behind the high-rise buildings.
On the flyer in the room, the relevant rule was [The key to the guest-house’s main door is at the front desk. If you find that opening the door with the key reveals a Buddha statue, please close the door immediately and do not go out]
But the front desk’s flyer stated that it required the front desk’s approval.
Bai Cha only glanced at the Buddha statue, and the feeling from before entering the instance, of countless sharp voices calling her name, appeared again.
She tried hard to lower her head and not look again, but being attacked like this made her feel even weaker.
A warm liquid seemed to flow from her nose.
Bai Cha touched it, it was a nosebleed.
The front desk staff had already walked outside the door at some point.
Bai Cha wiped her nosebleed and followed with gritted teeth.
After this, she could roughly guess what the rules were about.
Of course, she might die.
But if she cared, she wouldn’t have tested so frequently.
As she left the main door, the guest-house door closed.
The front desk staff took large strides.
Bai Cha could only stare intently at his figure and quickly followed.
The surroundings were very quiet, but she could hear human voices.
It was as if this was a very lively street, with people coming and going in the surrounding buildings.
The front desk staff stopped in front of a convenience store.
When Bai Cha stopped, her heart was beating so hard it hurt.
She glanced at the front desk staff’s plaster face, which seemed to have regained some human-like texture compared to when they were in the guest-house.
“You can go buy it,” the front desk staff slowly turned his head, undisguised malice in his eyes.
Bai Cha looked at the convenience store.
It was like many 24-hour convenience stores in the real world, looking quite normal, with the door open and no staff visible inside.
She took a step forward, her foot slipped, and she staggered towards the front desk staff.
The front desk staff stepped back to avoid her, but Bai Cha’s hand still grabbed his trouser leg.
Bai Cha could feel a chilling coldness instantly spread through her body, making her feverish brain much clearer.
But at the same time, she activated her skill.
[Dodder Flower lv.0]
[The frail dodder flower will not attract anyone’s attention. To survive, it will attach itself to the body of powerful energy until it takes root and sprouts, draining every bit of nourishment, and blooming into a tender yellow dodder flower. Eat it, and you will possess great power. But at the same time, you will never be able to leave the supply of nutrients.]
She had specifically checked this skill when she returned to the room with Xiao Xiao for the second time.
It was a skill that could kill a host by parasitic bloodsucking without the host noticing.
At least, that’s what Bai Cha thought.
But the condition for use was that she must clearly come into contact with the host.
When she touched the front desk staff’s trouser leg, she tried to activate the skill.
[Skill use judgment successful, parasitic target: imprisoned devotee.]
[The dodder vine will take root and sprout within one hour and can parasitize the host’s entire body within three days.]
Three days would be this time on the afternoon of the eighth.
Bai Cha felt a little regretful, but it was enough.
She could now feel a small seed connected to her. As long as she wanted, that seed would break through the host’s body at any time, and the flower would bloom in her hand.
And besides parasitism, she also received another piece of information.
Imprisoned devotee.
This name was very interesting.
All of this happened in a flash. Bai Cha immediately let go of his leg and looked up somewhat apologetically.
“I’m really sorry, Mr. Front Desk. My body is too weak. Could you please come in with me?”
There was still bloodstains on her face, making her look exceptionally disheveled.
The front desk staff directly took half a step back, clearly stating his attitude.
What a pity.
Bai Cha wasn’t surprised either.
From the moment she could hear the bustling sounds of people around her but saw only silence, she could roughly guess that the danger outside might come from the difference between the two worlds. Especially since she wanted to go into the convenience store to buy things, but where would she get the money?
“Okay, then I’ll go in myself,” Bai Cha slowly got up from the ground, afraid of getting low blood sugar if she stood up too quickly.
“But could you lend me some money?”
A trace of extra emotion finally appeared on the front desk staff’s face. He frowned slightly.
“Guest, your demands are really too many.”
“But serving guests and allowing them to experience a high-quality accommodation environment, isn’t that what you, as the front desk, should do?”
The front desk staff’s plaster face almost instantly gained another layer of human texture.
He looked somewhat angry, but he suppressed it.
“I’m sorry, guest, I don’t have the habit of carrying money when I go out.”
Bai Cha: “…”
Alright, he was quite eloquent.
But this also proved another thing: the imprisoned devotee, the one who imprisoned him was very likely the guest-house. Under the guest-house’s restrictions, he couldn’t directly attack guests.
So when Bai Cha repeatedly demanded that the front desk staff do things based on service, he couldn’t openly refuse or take action.
The information she obtained wasn’t entirely without gain.
But without money, could she buy water in the convenience store?
