Chapter 331: The Single Room
Upon hearing Su He’s words, Director Tian immediately shoved Director Feng to the side. “Well said!”
“This is exactly what I admire about Little Su!”
“She takes responsibility, and she has grit!”
“Unlike certain people who are afraid of wolves in front and tigers behind, terrified of being crushed to death even when a single raindrop falls on them…”
Director Feng: “…”
Do you think I can’t tell you’re making a snide insinuation at me?!
“Old Tian, what exactly do you mean by that?”
Director Tian curled his lip. “Literally! Figure it out yourself!”
Director Feng was already sweating profusely from the heat, and now his face turned completely red up to his neck!
Fearing they would start bickering again, Principal Chen intervened, “Let’s stop talking about this for now and head inside quickly. It wouldn’t look good if they have to come out and urge us.”
Director Hu chimed in as well, “Exactly, let’s get inside quickly!”
The group walked into the guesthouse, which was a scene of noisy, bustling chaos.
Although Officer Yu had given a heads-up in advance, the sheer volume of people arriving all at once still left the receptionists at the front desk completely flustered and overwhelmed.
Luo Dongchuan didn’t just stand idle, but when he spoke too softly, no one paid him any heed, and if he spoke too harshly, he was afraid of offending people.
Even though he belonged to the Foreign Trade Department, he still had to maintain a proper sense of propriety when dealing with representatives from a titan like the Steel Mill.
Seeing the situation, Su He stepped forward voluntarily to help. “Everyone, please don’t be anxious. Come, form a queue in groups of two! The faster we finish the paperwork, the sooner everyone can move on to other matters.”
Su He’s words were evidently very effective, and the crowd immediately began to form an orderly line.
Luo Dongchuan: “…”
Why do I feel like you look more like the deputy delegation leader than I do?
Only after everyone else had completed their check-in procedures did Principal Chen and his group step forward to handle theirs.
Seeing that there were no other female comrades left, Su He said to Luo Dongchuan, “Uncle Luo, since I’m the only female comrade left, I’ll take a single room for now. If another female comrade arrives later, you can have her move in to share it with me.”
Luo Dongchuan hurriedly replied, “The female comrades in the next batch are an even number as well, so just keep the room to yourself!”
Forget about having a spare room; even if there weren’t any, he would willingly sleep in the hallway just to clear out a single room for his grand niece!
Su He pursed her lips and smiled, then called him off to the side to discuss the shuttle bus arrangement.
Luo Dongchuan was both surprised and delighted. Having attended the Canton Fair multiple times, he knew exactly how inconvenient transportation could be.
During the spring session of the fair, they had been forced to wake up at the crack of dawn just to walk all the way over.
Take a public bus?
What a joke—it was absolutely impossible to squeeze onto one!
As for shuttle buses, taxis, or pedicabs, they were completely out of the question; they were basically all deployed to transport foreign guests, and the few remaining vehicles had been snatched up by people with powerful connections.
Strangers in a strange land, they could only rely on their two legs!
Regarding the price Su He quoted, he didn’t harbor a single objection.
Although it was indeed far from cheap, being able to secure a vehicle at a time like this was a testament to sheer capability!
After finishing with that matter, Su He shifted the conversation, “Uncle Luo, I noticed how chaotic it was just now. If our team behaves like this when the fair opens, it will severely damage the image of our Northern Liao Province.”
“I think you should utilize the next few days to shape up the discipline of our group. If nothing else, at least establish some basic order.”
“For instance, when riding the shuttle bus, it would be best to fix everyone’s seats in advance to prevent any disputes arising from scrambling for seats.”
“When we arrive at the venue entrance, everyone should also line up properly before heading inside.”
“We should also place heavy emphasis on our posture and demeanor—we must carry ourselves with dignified confidence, being neither servile nor overbearing, exactly like me.”
Luo Dongchuan: “…”
Su He continued to rattle on, “Are you thinking this is an unnecessary hassle? I have specific intentions behind doing this. One is to avoid unnecessary friction that would make us a laughingstock to others.”
“The other is to deepen the foreign merchants’ impression of our Northern Liao Province delegation. When they are casually browsing around, they will naturally pay closer attention to our Northern Liao Province booths.”
“Oh, by the way, it would be best to create a uniform marker for our Northern Liao Province booths and exhibition personnel—something eye-catching so that foreign buyers can easily recognize us…”
Luo Dongchuan was left utterly dumbfounded. What Su He was describing had completely surpassed his boundaries of comprehension.
You can actually play it like this?
“Little He, what you’re saying makes a lot of sense, but it’s a bit too late to produce a uniform marker on such short notice!”
Su He answered immediately, “For the design pattern, we can just use the color scheme and text of this year’s National Games flag. Copying it directly saves trouble, and no one will be able to find any fault with it.”
“The booths are also easy to handle. Our Anxin County Textile Factory prepared a batch of fabric printed with the National Games flag pattern in advance, coming in various sizes.”
“We can cut down the large ones to make small flags to hang above the booths, which will be both eye-catching and convenient.”
“The small ones can be cut into swallowtail ribbons for the exhibition personnel to pin to their chests.”
“Originally, these were intended to decorate our Anxin County booths. But since the wider team requires them now, we can only make a selfless contribution!”
Luo Dongchuan: … Is that really how it happened? Why do I find it so hard to believe!
Su He continued, “I’ll go find my colleagues who arrived early this afternoon to bring the samples over for you to inspect. If they won’t do, we can think of another way.”
Luo Dongchuan could only nod in agreement. Given how tight time was, it would definitely be too late to look for someone to make custom orders now.
“Uncle Luo, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head upstairs first.”
Luo Dongchuan nodded. “Alright.”
Only after Su He and her group had gone upstairs did Officer Yu edge his way closer.
“Section Chief Luo, Little Su is quite the smooth talker. It’s clear at a glance that she has been deeply influenced by your guidance.”
Luo Dongchuan: “…It actually doesn’t have much to do with me. Oh, right, Little He has made an arrangement with that shuttle bus driver. He’ll come early every morning to pick us up once the fair opens.”
Officer Yu: “…”
Is this Little Su a long-lost relative of that Driver Hou?!
Everyone knew exactly how scarce large shuttle buses were during the Canton Fair; countless people broke their heads trying to book a vehicle but couldn’t manage it.
Yet a young girl who had just arrived had managed to settle the matter after merely chatting for a bit on the road?
Looking at the completely dumbfounded expression plastered across Officer Yu’s face, Luo Dongchuan felt exceptionally good.
It’s about time you experienced the absolute shock I’ve been feeling all along this journey!
“Oh, right, Little He also put forward two suggestions. One is to rigorously enforce team discipline, and the other is a uniform marker for the delegation…”
Officer Yu’s face looked as though a wooden stupor had been permanently welded onto it.
Luo Dongchuan was also rather wicked. Before Officer Yu could even snap out of his daze, he added, “Oh, right, Little Yu, I almost forgot to tell you a magnificent piece of happy news!”
“On our train journey here, through Little He’s networking, our Northern Liao Province delegation managed to secure nine hundred and forty-five thousand three hundred dollars in orders.”
“To be fair, Little He has an incredibly grand vision. She didn’t just help our Northern Liao Province delegation secure orders; she even helped the Capital North Province delegation pull in a hundred-thousand-dollar order.”
“If Director Xiao and the others hadn’t already boarded their train, the very first thing I would have done upon arriving at the guesthouse would be to report the good news to him…”
Officer Yu: Have I gone mad, or has Section Chief Luo lost his mind?
How can he be talking such utter nonsense in broad daylight?
Securing over nine hundred thousand US dollars in orders on a train?
That’s completely impossible!
Even if you paint a picture with words, I won’t believe it!
Yet, in the end, he still had to believe it.
Because the matter was verified by Director Zhao of the Steel Mill, who had even kindly let him take a look at the advance purchase contract.
As for whether it was out of kindness or sheer showing off, that was a whole separate matter.
Turning his gaze toward Luo Dongchuan, Officer Yu threw out a question that pierced straight to the soul: “Section Chief Luo, is Little Su really your niece? How come I’ve never heard you mention her before?”
