Chapter 333: Packed with Shrewd Calculations
Director Tian stared fixedly at the little flower. Once the initial bewilderment passed, a wave of pure sour jealousy washed over him!
He was so sour he was practically bubbling over!
“This thing must be a product of the Textile Factory too, right? Given Old Feng’s attitude toward you, you really treat him far too well!”
Su He replied with a beaming smile, “Director, look at what you’re saying. Although Director Feng likes to get stuck in dead ends sometimes, he’s still a decent person. Besides, I didn’t do all this for any single person; I did it for the common folk of our Anxin County!”
Director Tian curled his lip. “I just hope Old Feng appreciates your kindness. Otherwise, all your painstaking efforts will just be fed to the dogs!”
When he said this, he didn’t try to hide it from the other three men in the room.
These were Yu Guodong, the head of the logistics office at the Food Factory; Qi Weimin, the head of the maintenance department at the Machinery Factory; and Section Chief Gao from the sales department of the Textile Factory.
Yu Guodong and Qi Weimin didn’t think much of it, but Section Chief Gao felt incredibly awkward, not knowing whether he should listen or tune it out.
After all, Director Tian was badmouthing the director of his own Textile Factory.
Su He smiled and said to Director Tian, “You really need to broaden your horizon a bit!”
“The foreign merchants drawn in by these fancy pins will definitely have to come over to our booths, which will also benefit the sales of the Food Factory’s instant noodles.”
“After all, our booth location is far too out of the way!”
“Even if we rely on the aroma of the instant noodles to attract people later on, the radius it can reach is limited. This venue is simply massive, after all.”
The sourness in Director Tian’s heart instantly evaporated into thin air!
“Little Su, actually I was just speaking off the cuff just now. Our Food Factory and the Textile Factory are brother units, so of course I hope they secure plenty of orders!”
“Although Old Feng is narrow-minded, he’s still reliable on major matters!”
“Let’s not just talk. Is there any work to be done? Since we’re idle anyway, let’s all pitch in and get busy!”
Su He pursed her lips and smiled, assigning Director Tian, Yu Guodong, and Qi Weimin to cut out the small flags. Although fabric had been provided, not much of it had been cut yet.
The three of them went out to the courtyard to get busy, while Su He took Section Chief Gao along to continue inspecting the items that had been mailed over.
Section Chief Gao felt inexplicably nervous, constantly sensing that Su He was about to say something. Yet in the end, Su He merely checked the items over once and didn’t utter a word.
This left Section Chief Gao feeling even more anxious and unsettled, though it wasn’t his place to say anything.
When Su He walked back out, she was wearing a straw hat herself and holding another one in her hand.
She walked over to Director Tian and handed the hat to him.
“Director, the sun is too fierce. Put this straw hat on!”
Director Tian didn’t think too much of it, accepting it and placing it on his head.
Then, he heard Su He say, “I’ve even thoughtfully prepared one for every single member of the delegation. I really am the greatest altruist in Northern Liao Province!”
Director Tian: “…”
Give me a break!
You’re just doing this to promote that Handicraft Factory of yours that only has a single veteran employee!
Unbelievable—every single member of the Northern Liao Province delegation is about to become a mobile exhibition booth for you!
Besides, don’t think I don’t know exactly how you earned that title of ‘Anxin County’s Altruist’!
The only difference between you and me back then was a shill!
Su He and Section Chief Gao joined in to help cut the small flags. Director Tian’s mouth didn’t stop for a single moment as he rattled on about everything that had happened on the train.
He acted exactly as if he had been the one to facilitate the million-dollar order himself—his pride was simply off the charts!
The eyes of Section Chief Gao and the other two went completely blank. Although they knew Su He was capable, this… this was simply beyond all boundaries!
It was a good thing that talk of ghosts, demons, and spirits wasn’t permitted nowadays, otherwise they would have suspected she was an abacus bead that had attained enlightenment!
Many hands made light work, and the small flags were quickly cut to shape. Su He even used a thin string to thread them together, so that they could easily be hung up or secured when the time came.
After finishing the small flags, Su He inspected the swallowtail ribbons secured with the fancy pins. Seeing no omissions or errors, she packed the flags, ribbons, and straw hats into a large burlap sack.
Su He had previously instructed Section Chief Gao and the others to “rent” a reverse tricycle. Once the items were loaded, Su He and Director Tian sat on the vehicle, while Section Chief Gao acted as the manual labor to pedal them back to the guesthouse.
Along the way, Director Tian’s mouth didn’t remain idle either: “Little Gao, although you aren’t my subordinate, as a senior, I still need to offer you a few words of guidance.”
“As the saying goes, ‘a bird following a phoenix flies far and high, and a man accompanying the virtuous attains noble character.’ So you must keep your eyes sharp and avoid taking the wrong or crooked paths!”
“It’s not that I, as an old friend, want to disparage Old Feng, but while he was decent in his youth, now that he’s advanced in years, he’s terrified of wolves in front and tigers behind. He simply can’t achieve anything grand!”
“Take this train journey here, for instance. Little Su helped him secure a hundred-and-ten-thousand-dollar order, yet look at his pathetic display—he was shaking so hard he almost turned into a sieve!”
“Little Su, on the other hand, was perfectly calm and composed. It’s still the youth who have a future!”
…
Section Chief Gao: “…”
You’re stopping just short of explicitly telling me to board Su He’s ship!
The critical issue is that even if I were willing, I can’t possibly say it out loud to you!
However, given Director Tian’s seniority, it wasn’t his place to say anything back, so he could only pedal the bicycle with all his might.
He actually managed to catch up to the public bus ahead!
The bus driver: “…”
What is a crummy reverse tricycle acting so arrogant for?!
The driver stepped on the gas to overtake him, blasting the horn several times.
Fortunately, Su He shifted the topic at this moment: “Old Gao, tomorrow I’ll head over to the venue first to take a look. You guys wait for news at home; there’s no need to rush over.”
Tomorrow, the venue would only officially open to the accompanying personnel. Section Chief Gao and his team wouldn’t be able to get inside, so they could only deliver the goods to the exterior, and Su He and the others would have to find a way to get them inside themselves.
Su He then inquired about whether they were used to the food and accommodation in Guangzhou, chatting about ordinary, homely matters, which finally allowed Section Chief Gao to relax.
Upon arriving at the guesthouse, Su He had Section Chief Gao deliver the items to her room, and then she took the samples to find Luo Dongchuan.
Although Luo Dongchuan was also exhausted, he hadn’t rested. Instead, he was busy drafting a work summary and the upcoming work schedule.
Su He had provided the general direction, but the concrete execution still required refinement.
Officer Yu, who shared the room with him, was busy pondering the matter of the swapped children in the Shen family, having already played out several versions of the drama in his head.
Hearing the knock at the door, he hurriedly went over to open it.
Su He greeted him with a beaming smile and stepped into the room.
“Uncle Luo, I’ve brought the samples over. Would you like to take a look?”
As Su He spoke, she pulled the small flags from the bag first, asking Officer Yu to help unfurl the string of connected flags.
Luo Dongchuan’s eyes lit up. The color scheme of the Northern Liao Province banner consisted of alternating red, yellow, and blue, making the small flags exceptionally eye-catching.
Su He then drew out the swallowtail ribbons.
When Luo Dongchuan spotted the fancy pins attached to them: “…”
I knew it. This girl never wakes up early without a profit in sight!
Still, given that she had made such a massive contribution and sponsored so many items, it was only natural for her to harbor a tiny bit of self-interest.
Officer Yu clearly didn’t possess a mind that spun as fast as Luo Dongchuan’s. He remarked, “Oh, this is truly the first time I’ve ever seen this kind of pin; it’s remarkably unique! Little Su, where did you buy this? I want to buy a few for my wife when I go back!”
Su He pursed her lips and smiled. “It’s a new product from our Anxin County Textile Factory. We have this pin style as well as hair accessories and brooches. If my sister-in-law likes them, there’s no need to buy them. You can just pick out whatever you like at my factory some other day.”
Only then did Officer Yu catch on. He thought to himself: No wonder she managed to secure a million-dollar order on a train. Even her eyelashes must be hollow—the girl is absolutely packed with shrewd calculations!
