Chapter 139: Island Turtle, Encounter!
Su Ning looked at the tide shrimp and unknown fish floating belly-up on the sea’s surface. There were also many tide shrimp still alive. Without hesitation, Su Ning swept them all into her storage space.
“I’ll raise the live tide shrimp directly in my personal space!”
She even used up an extra storage slot to collect seawater—just for the sake of raising ocean creatures.
“From now on, I’ll never run out of seafood!” Su Ning was quite excited about this idea.
After all, the one thing the Endless Sea didn’t lack was seafood. (Though mutated sea monsters weren’t exactly included in that category.)
Speaking of which, she fished out a freshly electrocuted tide shrimp from the sea. Originally, it had been semi-transparent with a slight green tint, but now it was fully cooked by electricity. Su Ning wanted to take a bite…
…but suddenly heard a soft, pitiful whimper beside her.
With a black line forming on her forehead, Su Ning said, “You little thing didn’t even help fight and now you’re already thinking about feasting?”
You You (the ghost white tiger) tilted its head cutely—a critical hit!
Su Ning was instantly defeated by the cuteness.
Powerless to resist, she handed the cooked tide shrimp to You You.
You You jumped up and swallowed it whole, then happily bounced around on the boat!
It was as if to say: I might not be strong enough to help now, but when I grow up, I’ll definitely protect Master and defeat her enemies!
After feeding it, Su Ning quickly paddled the boat away from the area, worried that more sea creatures might be drawn by the scent.
Naturally, she gave up fishing too—the fish in this ocean weren’t what she had imagined.
In the sea, the monsters clearly had the advantage. If she hadn’t had Hong Hong by her side, fighting them would have been quite a challenge.
Though Su Ning didn’t exactly fear sea monsters, fighting in the water was bound to be messy and inconvenient.
“I still need to find an island! Is land really that scarce in this instance?”
She muttered curiously, “Endless Sea… could it be that all the land has been swallowed by the ocean?”
That thought sent a chill down her spine. She didn’t dare imagine what it would mean if that were true—this instance would be an absolute nightmare.
“Hong Hong, I’ll leave scouting for islands to you!”
Su Ning instructed Hong Hong and its Emerald Bees to spread out and search for any nearby islands.
Meanwhile, she opened the in-game communication channel again, hoping to glean useful information from other players’ messages.
Hong Hong controlled a swarm of Emerald Bees, which spread out in every direction in search of land.
Su Ning scanned the chat channel:
[Be careful of the sea creatures, everyone. They’re terrifying! I just saw a giant whale leap out of the water and fly through the air! Its mouth could swallow tens of thousands of people in one gulp!]
[Aaaaah! Are all sea monsters like that?!]
[Not all. I just killed a really weird monster. It wasn’t very big, but it was super strong. Still, I got a prompt that I had slain a sea monster.]
[Guys, I found something good—some types of seaweed are edible! This instance is dangerous, sure, but full of opportunities too. I’ve already found lots of useful stuff in the ocean.]
[You’re lucky. I’m still flailing in the water, looking for anywhere to land!]
[Heh, there’s even more good stuff on land. This instance is amazing. I’ve got enough food now to last me a while!]
Su Ning read the messages.
“So, there are islands—just not many.”
“Fine. I should prioritize collecting useful resources.”
Soon, Hong Hong returned with good news: it had found an island.
“Really? In the southwest?”
With this information, Su Ning immediately rowed her boat toward the island Hong Hong had discovered.
Soon, a lush green island came into view. It was fairly large. Su Ning was just about to get excited when—
She instinctively activated Scavenger’s Eye to check for any good loot nearby, and a piece of information popped up before her:
[Monster: Island Turtle] (Sea Monster)
Trait – Continental Back: Can form land on its back, allowing life to flourish there.
Skill – Photosynthesis: Absorbs light to boost vitality.
Note: The larger the Island Turtle, the longer it has lived. Island Turtles love to sleep and are often dormant for years at a time.
Su Ning stared in shock at the “island” in front of her.
She couldn’t believe it—it was actually a creature?!
“Endless Sea? A sea without end? Or… is all the land in this instance actually made up of Island Turtles?”
If so, this instance was far more mysterious than it seemed.
Still, she wasn’t particularly afraid of this creature. According to its data, the Island Turtle loved to sleep—so there wasn’t much to worry about.
Su Ning rowed the boat onto the “island.”
Now that she had some time, she checked the progress of her sea monster hunting mission:
[2 / 100]
She had killed two sea monsters. Su Ning still didn’t know what “Deep Sea Mud” was, but if the system offered it as a reward, it had to be valuable. Of course, she accepted the mission.
She was strong enough, so she might as well stockpile resources.
With the upgraded storage space, she had lots of room. And if she didn’t fill it all up again, she felt uncomfortable.
Su Ning glanced around and stored Hong Hong back into her space, keeping only You You at her side—this was also a good chance to train its combat ability.
She still didn’t know how well You You fought.
As Su Ning was searching around the island, a sound came from the forest.
“Ahhh!”
“Run! There are monsters in here too!”
“Why is that snake so huge?!”
Several cries of panic rang out. Su Ning soon saw five people stumbling out of the forest, clearly in bad shape. One man’s right arm looked like it had been torn off. Two of his companions were supporting him as they fled.
Right behind them, a giant serpent slithered quickly in pursuit.
[Monster: Sea Serpent]
Trait – Shedding: Can shed its skin to survive a fatal wound (usable once per year).
Skill – Constrict: Wraps its body around enemies to strangle them.
One of the fleeing players, Huang Zhengang, spotted Su Ning standing still and shouted anxiously:
“Don’t just stand there—RUN!”
Su Ning noted his kind warning and calmly called out:
“You You!”
You You understood instantly—it was time to shine.
In the next moment, You You slipped into the shadows, activating its innate skill [Phantom Soul].
Its shadow sped across the ground toward the sea serpent, then merged into the serpent’s own shadow.
The Sea Serpent, which had been slithering at full speed, suddenly froze in place!
This was You You’s skill [Shadow Step], which immobilized any enemy whose shadow it stepped on.
You You emerged from the shadows and bit fiercely at the serpent’s neck. Though small, its bite force was tremendous—it tore off a large chunk of flesh in one go.
The Sea Serpent screamed in pain.
Su Ning saw how terrifying You You’s abilities were—but knowing it was still young and not yet at full strength, she stepped in herself.
She drew her bow and fired. Bullseye. The arrow struck the serpent square between the eyes. Even if it didn’t die instantly, the poison on the arrow would finish it off quickly.
The five fleeing players watched, stunned.
The monster that had forced them to flee in desperation was effortlessly slain by Su Ning.
But before they could relax—
The severely injured man collapsed to the ground.
“Gao Peng!!” one of his teammates cried out in shock.
