Whole Family Exiled After Transmigrated – CH63

Has the Capital’s Wind Changed?

Chapter 63: Has the Capital’s Wind Changed?

How could Chang Huilan possibly know? Like Yu Yingying, the entire Yu family, including Yu Luo’s family of three, all hoped that Liang Chao and his men would be replaced by Wu Dahai to escort them instead.

“Why is Commander Wu here?”

Seeing Wu Dahai, even Liang Chao, who was leading the group, looked surprised. He quickly dismounted and clasped his fists respectfully.

“I ordered two tents in the city yesterday. By the time I got them, you had already departed, so I decided to deliver them personally.”

“Tents?”

Liang Chao glanced suspiciously at the large bundle on Wu Dahai’s horse.

In over a decade of escorting prisoners, he had never seen a guard deliver tents for exiled criminals. Could it be that Wu Dahai received a lot of bribes from the Yu family?

“Indeed. The road to the wilderness is covered in snow, and there’s a stretch without any mountains to shield from the wind and snow. I specially ordered these tents so Commander Liang and the guards could have some shelter from the wind and cold.”

Hearing this explanation, Liang Chao didn’t buy it for a second. He had never had any dealings with Wu Dahai, so why would he go out of his way to be so considerate?

But out loud, Liang Chao thanked him with a smile, though suspicion lingered in his mind.

“I’ve delivered the items, but before I head back to the capital, there are a few things I want to discuss with Commander Liang—just a little heads-up.”

Seeing that Wu Dahai was finally getting to the point, Liang Chao perked up and straightened his posture respectfully.

“Please speak freely, Commander Wu.”

“To tell the truth, I fear that the Yu family’s reversal may not be far off. I’ve also received word that the Second Prince has successfully secured the throne as Crown Prince.”

Before Wu Dahai could finish, Liang Chao’s eyes had already widened in disbelief!

Every time he took over a new group of exiled prisoners, he would thoroughly investigate their backgrounds and connections. If the Second Prince truly became the Crown Prince, didn’t that mean the Yu family could regain their status?

Realizing this, Liang Chao couldn’t help but cast a glance at Yu Zhengqing in the distance.

“Thank you for the warning, Commander Wu. I understand.”

Wu Dahai nodded. “Commander Liang has been in Pingyang for over twenty years. Escorting criminals is a thankless job, and even if you do it for a lifetime, the highest you can go is your current position. But if you handle this situation well, rising three ranks in a row shouldn’t be difficult, don’t you think?”

It was precisely because he saw no prospects for promotion that Liang Chao had never held back on extorting money. But hearing Wu Dahai’s words, it was like a dying ember had suddenly been reignited with hope!

Even though he was stationed in Pingyang, most of his work involved patrolling the bandit-infested Jiuzhong Mountains and the wilderness.

In over a decade, Liang Chao had extorted tens of thousands of taels of silver, but what was the point if he rarely got to spend it? At best, he could enjoy a few months a year in Pingyang, and if anything went wrong, he might lose his life on one of these escort missions.

Who wouldn’t want a promotion?

If he could take his fortune and relocate to the capital, where he could live in luxury every day, wouldn’t that be wonderful? Even if he didn’t go to the capital, transferring to a safer post would be far better than escorting prisoners!

Within moments, Liang Chao had weighed the pros and cons, and a glimmer of hope for the future sparkled in his eyes.

“Well then, I shall take my leave.”

Wu Dahai turned his horse around, casting a brief glance at Yu Zhengqing among the prisoners before his eyes shifted to Yu Luo’s family of three. Without another word, he spurred his horse and rode away!

“Commander Wu… Commander Wu, don’t leave us behind!”

Watching his figure disappear into the distance, Yu Yingying’s lips trembled, and she couldn’t help but burst into tears.

“Men, remove the shackles from all members of the Yu family!”

The Yu family!?

Liang Chao’s command left Yu Yingying stunned. She turned her head, eyes wide with disbelief, staring at him in shock.

The sudden joy and surprise made her feel like she had found new hope for survival! She laughed and cried, hardly able to believe her own ears!

“It must be that Commander Wu said something to Commander Liang, otherwise…”

“Shh!”

Just as Yu Yingying, who had her shackles removed, was about to share her excitement with Chang Huilan, her mother quickly covered her mouth to stop her from speaking further.

“Auntie, why aren’t we wearing shackles anymore? Does this mean we won’t be exiled?”

The innocent Yu Xiaoyun clung to Lady Lan’s arm, eyes brimming with happy tears!

Even at seven years old, he had not escaped the whippings that day. After witnessing Wu Dahai’s arrival and departure, and Liang Chao’s sudden change in attitude, even the young boy could sense something was off.

Yu Luo’s family of three exchanged a glance, all smelling the scent of the Yu family’s imminent restoration.

“Are we still killing them or not?”

Ye Jiamei, noticing Liang Chao’s newfound restraint, lowered her voice to ask the father and daughter duo.

“Better not for now. It seems the Yu family might really be getting pardoned this time. If we get exposed for killing guards, it might ruin everything.”

Yu Haojie thought for a moment before sharing his cautious opinion. Yu Luo couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

“Dad’s right. As long as they don’t trouble us, why make things harder for ourselves? Let’s just wait and see.”

Perhaps because Liang Chao now saw hope for promotion, his mood improved. Not only were the Yu family’s shackles removed, but even the other exiled prisoners’ shackles were taken off.

However, to be safe, everyone was still bound by ankle chains and had their hands tied—everyone except the Yu family.

Even so, it was far better than before, making the journey ahead feel dozens of times lighter.

By evening, not a single whip was raised, and the lecherous guards no longer harassed the women.

It almost felt like they were back to the days when Wu Dahai was in charge. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

Only Yu Xiangxiang, the girl whose face was cruelly scarred by her own grandmother, remained cloaked in resentment.

Looking at her grandmother, Mu Chunfang, and her grandfather, Yu Liang, walking ahead, hatred simmered slowly in her heart.

That night, when Liang Chao opened the tents, the Yu family was overjoyed!

“So, Commander Wu really did send the tents for us?! Mother, it seems like Commander Wu didn’t want us to freeze to death on the road!”

In her joy, Yu Yingying failed to notice the heavy yet cautiously optimistic expressions of the other Yu family members.

If even someone like Liang Chao was treating them so well, did that mean the winds of the capital had truly shifted in their favor?

Full Title: The Whole Family Was Exiled After Transmigrated, Emptied the Marquis' Mansion and Lived Freely on the Road

A family of three finds themselves transmigrated as illegitimate members of a marquis’s household, living in hardship—hungry, cold, and even less fortunate than the servants. Before they can turn their fortunes around, the system warns them that they are about to have their entire household confiscated and be exiled! With a cold snort, the family of three declares, “The glory and wealth of the Marquis’s estate aren’t meant for us, but confiscation and exile we cannot avoid!” Thus, father and daughter collude from both inside and outside. Yu Haojie sets fire to the marquis’s mansion, while Yu Luo goes on a spree of “collecting” along the way! They even set another fire at the neighboring Chancellor’s mansion—and Yu Luo scales the wall to continue gathering loot! What is there to fear in a savage land? With the system in hand, Yu Luo can choose from thousands of items at will and even acquire a batch of peerless divine beasts, inadvertently becoming the wealthiest person in the wildlands. Mother Ye Jiamai is no slouch either. In her past life, she was an outstanding physician; her very first clinic sprang up overnight, attracting favor from various factions. “In my past life, I earned money while you all spent it; in this life, your father only wants to be a home cook!” Yu Haojie grins goofily, then silently mobilizes troops—disappearing only to have his daughter and daughter-in-law recapture a city for the family! One day, the once-cold former crown prince of the previous dynasty, finally vindicated and returning to the capital, pulls Yu Luo into his arms before departing. “Luo Luo, if you marry me, I will offer you my kingdom as a dowry.”

Uh hi again, it seems like chapter 62 wasn’t posted with chapter 61. This is the second time I’ve noticed this happening and since it seems like you pretty consistently post two chapters at a time is there something wrong with your uploading system somewhere? Anyhow, I appreciate the work you do, please don’t think I’m being critical.
