Chapter 214: Big Fatty
Since deciding to go to the wasteland, Huaiyu’s life has become more goal-oriented.
The first goal is to earn points.
Chenxing said that a car costs at least fifty thousand, and with other expenses, Huaiyu plans to save around seventy thousand points for a more stable purchase.
It sounds like a lot, but considering she already has over twenty thousand, it doesn’t seem too far off.
So after selling vegetables again, Huaiyu looked at the items piled up by the stove, wiped the sweat from her face, and finally decided—
“We should buy a car!”
Zhou Qian looked up and pointed to himself, saying, “I have 9,000 savings. You have 27,000.”
“Should we buy four tires first?”
But Huaiyu calculated: “I can earn five to six thousand from one round of selling vegetables, so buying a car isn’t far off, right?”
“But we can’t sell vegetables every day.”
In fact, they were selling vegetables only once a week, but the market had clearly changed.
Zhou Qian reminded her, “Don’t sell vegetables too casually lately. If someone targets you, and if the benefits are enough, even people from the Rose Corridor might dare to come after you.”
No one had moved before because everyone was scared, but once they knew someone lived near the Rose Corridor, it would be hard not to entertain the idea—if she can, so can I.
Huaiyu glanced at the vegetable garden—she had only grown a couple of plants of each type, and lately, there was little left. But even so, a car still seemed within reach.
But if they stopped selling vegetables, they wouldn’t be able to use the car right away…
But, I could sell other things.
She began to count on her fingers: “Bamboo heart tea, Kerlian balls, Big Fat…”
Zhou Qian thought of how Keru-Taro chewed on balls and winced, but—
“Who’s Big Fat?”
Huaiyu gave him a confused look: “You’ve drunk Big Fat’s feet!”
She then shouted: “Big Fat!”
The mountain climbing tiger on her legs started to move restlessly, with a green leaf in front carrying something that piqued its interest underground. Zhou Qian’s gaze focused on the open space ahead, where he saw, with a puff, the top of the fat ginseng’s head and leaves emerging.
Zhou Qian: “…”
He didn’t know how to respond, but the feeling of surprise every day was rather subtle.
So…
“Are you going to sell it?”
Big Fat… well, Big Fat.
Big Fat’s ability was somewhat unique. As a ginseng used to supplement the body, it had no effect on ordinary people.
But if someone had mutated plants on their body, it would be highly desirable!
Key point: on the body.
That means the ones grown in the soil were useless; it only worked on mutated plants that were part of a person’s body, whether they were parasitic, rooted, or even transplanted from the ground.
As long as there were mutated plants, it would work.
So, Huaiyu didn’t dare to use too much purification on the remaining ginseng, simply encouraging it to grow a bit faster. She didn’t dare do more.
Huaiyu thought: “I was thinking of selling ordinary ginseng, but their high mutation value has been purified, so forget it! It’s hard to find, so I’ll keep it.”
She secretly thought: what if Lin Xuefeng comes back and needs this to save his life? Just in case, I’ll keep it.
And then there’s Zhou Qian. He said he’d go to the wasteland with me, but I really don’t want him to. If he does go, then I’ll need to keep this too.
So, even though she said it, the Big Fat family was excluded from the selling list.
Big Fat had no idea about its dangerous situation. It only heard its name called and once again wriggled out of the soil, stammering, “You… you called me, what’s up?”
The last four words were held in for a while before being spat out in one breath, the tone heavy. But Huaiyu still smiled and praised it: “Wow, your speech is getting more fluent! You used to only speak four words occasionally, but now you can say four words in every sentence!”
Big Fat’s white, chubby body grew even taller, its green leaves trembling, and the side branches with roots looked like human arms, hands on hips. Zhou Qian could clearly see one of the roots was a bit thicker but hadn’t been forked properly, and due to the sharp angle, it broke off halfway.
“Ouch!” Big Fat didn’t stammer this time. The fat body tried to bend and look at the broken root. Zhou Qian was worried it might even break its own body.
Fortunately, it looked like a water radish, so the movement didn’t harm it. After lowering its leaves a bit, it gave up.
Anyway, it was just a root—it would grow back.
Zhou Qian: “…”
Huaiyu quickly picked up the broken root and praised, “Big Fat, your arm broke! Does it hurt? Do you want me to pour some water on it?”
The silly fat thing shook its leaves joyfully, nodding in agreement.
Zhou Qian couldn’t bear to look at it—pouring water on it as a reward? Big Fat could walk on its own and even go to the pond if it was thirsty. It didn’t need that.
But it seemed to trust Huaiyu, probably because she encouraged its growth. It naturally relied on her, following her orders as if receiving special treatment…
Zhou Qian had nothing to say about this.
Huaiyu then handed the broken root to him and, after playing with Big Fat for a while, asked thoughtfully, “It’s so hot right now. Is it hot in your tree house?”
“If it is, Rose Corridor and Kuang Biao have built a bamboo tunnel with wind and coolness, no sun either. Want to move there for a while?”
“I told Rose Corridor, so they won’t hurt you.”
Heh, Rose Corridor’s temper really has improved!
And that bamboo tunnel, though initially meant for punishing Kuang Biao, ended up becoming a great summer retreat in June!
A few days ago, Zhou Qian was up early, hauling water and mixing mud, and built a simple stove. After all, the 30+ degree temperatures made cooking indoors unbearable.
Big Fat seemed to hesitate for a moment.
It didn’t like the heat or direct sunlight, and the bamboo tunnel was very tempting. But on one side was the powerful bamboo, and on the other, the even more powerful Rose Corridor…
So tough.
Why is being a ginseng so hard?
After Big Fat, full of indecision, left, Huaiyu happily said to Zhou Qian, “Zhou Qian, I’ll make some water with Big Fat’s root for you to drink!”
“You said this would make your legs stronger, right?”
Turns out, I’m the one benefiting from this!
Zhou Qian’s expression grew more complicated, and after a pause, he hesitated, “The dry ginseng in the pharmacy can be stored for many years. Should we dry this root too and try to store it?”
Eh?
Huaiyu hadn’t thought of that.
But if they’re going to the wasteland, bringing Big Fat would be too eye-catching. Maybe taking the root would be more convenient?
