Chapter 94: Global Nuclear Explosion 6
This station was no different from the last one.
Gaunt and exhausted, hungry and thirsty, and suffering from injuries and the pain of losing loved ones, the people around sat on the ground lifelessly.
Chu Yian stumbled in and plopped down on the edge of the crowd.
Most people were too hungry to move or speak, but a few curious individuals asked about Chu Yian’s origins, “Where did you come from?”
“The previous station.”
Chu Yian replied.
Her arrival was like a small stone dropped into a lake, breaking the calm.
“Besides us, are there other survivors?”
“Did you see a rescue team?”
The people who gathered around questioned her, all talking at once, clearly most of them hoping someone would come to save them.
“There are survivors, but everyone is in the same situation. I didn’t see a rescue team. I walked from the last station. There were a few collapsed sections in the tunnel, but they were all passable.”
After she finished speaking, she coughed again. Because of the medicine, waves of drowsiness washed over her.
The others wanted to ask more questions, but Chu Yian no longer paid them any mind.
She used her backpack as a pillow and closed her eyes to rest. She was simply too tired; even as the surroundings grew noisy, she quickly fell asleep.
She slept very soundly.
When she woke up, her body felt much better. Chu Yian felt her head no longer ached, and her strength was gradually returning. The wound on her ankle still throbbed faintly; it seemed it would take some time to heal.
After checking her wound, she casually picked up her backpack and suddenly noticed that its weight was off.
It was lighter.
The contents inside were gone.
The bottom of the backpack had a long slit, and the half-bottle of mineral water and half-biscuit it contained had all vanished. Those were leftovers from eating in the tunnel, and since it was only half, she had put it in her backpack.
She hadn’t expected someone would steal even half a bottle of water and half a biscuit, and even cut her backpack.
Chu Yian quickly felt her pocket, relieved that her phone in her clothes pocket was still there.
She looked at the people nearby.
Regardless of what these people did before, whether they were elites or homeless, they all looked dishevelled now. With such a simple observation, it was impossible to tell who had taken her things.
Forget it, she wouldn’t bother with it.
Chu Yian withdrew her gaze and took out her phone to check the time.
It was now 9:12 AM on the fourth day of the game, 59 hours since the nuclear explosion.
She slung the tattered backpack back onto her shoulder and once again set off towards Niubing Station. When she reached a deserted section of the tunnel, she ate and took her medicine again.
Then she put her hand into the treasure box and used the skill of creating something out of nothing.
A flare
Note: Will be reclaimed after this round of the game ends
Good Item’s Inner Voice: The light is a bling-bling red!
A flare… not useful for now.
Chu Yian put the item back into the treasure box, then took out the radio. She tried tuning frequencies one by one, but unfortunately, she couldn’t pick up any signal. It seemed the wireless network had not yet recovered after the explosion.
She continued walking towards the next station.
However, to her surprise, a fight was happening at this station!
From afar, Chu Yian heard women screaming and children crying coming from the station. Several hundred survivors were brawling, some even wielding steel pipes they had found somewhere, hitting wildly.
Some people were already lying on the ground, blood everywhere, with pleas and wails mixing together.
Chu Yian hid in the dark tunnel, watching the tragic scene ahead by the faint light.
After experiencing several game worlds, she found it difficult to feel pity or sympathy for people unrelated to her. She didn’t want to know how to stop these people from fighting; she just wanted to pass through the platform ahead unscathed.
But she was afraid that if these people got too caught up in the fight, even passersby would get innocently hit.
She watched ahead, waiting for an opportunity.
But then, she heard the squeaking of rats.
Humans were hungry and thirsty, and so were rats.
When Chu Yian heard that sound, she felt her ankle begin to throb faintly. She glanced back at the dark tunnel, then, dragging her injured leg, she quickly ran towards the platform ahead.
“I’m just passing through, don’t hit me!”
“There are many rats in the tunnel; they smelled blood and are coming.”
Chu Yian shouted as she ran, especially the second sentence, which made these people look in unison at the tunnel she had emerged from. Indeed, more than a dozen pairs of eyes were watching them from the dark tunnel.
Bang—!
Someone, from who knows which side, still couldn’t resist hitting the other party with a stick at a time like this.
“Damn it!”
Someone cursed, then immediately threw a punch back. In an instant, the group of people started brawling again.
Fighting at a time like this, are they insane?!
Seeing that they were consumed by anger, Chu Yian immediately decided not to rest there and ran towards the next station.
The sounds of fighting could still be heard from far away, making one wonder if the group of people earlier had a blood feud or a grudge over a stolen wife. If not, then they were purely crazy and seeking death.
Day four of the game, 11:23 AM
After a long journey, she finally reached the last stop of the subway line, Niubing Station!
Chu Yian was a little worried that this place would be as chaotic as the last station, but fortunately, it was relatively normal here. People lay or sat on the ground, hunger and thirst draining their strength, so even Chu Yian’s appearance didn’t cause much commotion.
There were still more than 8 hours left until 72 hours after the nuclear explosion.
Chu Yian checked the time, then found a place to lie down.
Although she had taken medicine, the erratic sleep schedule, the journey, and her illness over the past few days had left her mentally and physically exhausted. This was the terminal station of subway Line 3; there was no further path ahead.
Next, she would wait for the nuclear radiation to decrease, then find a way to go up and check the situation.
It was relatively safe below, but no one knew what it was like above. She needed to rest well to have the energy to explore.
Chu Yian tucked her phone into the innermost layer of her clothes, her backpack empty, and then used the backpack as a pillow for her head. This sleep was not very peaceful; she felt a hand fumbling on her face.
Her eyes hadn’t opened, but her mind sharply cleared. She immediately grabbed the hand and bit down hard with her mouth.
It was fast and forceful!
Instantly, her mouth filled with the taste of blood, and a scream echoed in her ears.
A young man.
passerby A, with an ordinary appearance and a hint of lewdness in his brows. His right hand was bitten by Chu Yian’s teeth, and his left hand was raised high, ready to slap her.
Chu Yian released the man’s hand, tilted her head back, then lunged forward, smashing her forehead hard into his.
There was a thud.
The man screamed from the impact, and Chu Yian picked up a piece of gravel from the ground and threw it at his head.
“Ah ah ah—!”
