The Road to Survival (End)

Chapter 13: The Road to Survival (End)

Chu Yian: “There are still many more.”

Lu Qingyuan: “Open the window, fire a warning shot.”

Two gunshots rang out, and the people surrounding the car finally calmed down. Chu Yian, imitating a villain from TV, shouted, “Who the hell dares to come up? I’ll shoot them!”

The people around were scared and kept backing away, while the sound of zombies came from far behind.

“Please save us!”

“There’s still a lot of room in your car.”

“Take my child with you.”

“Take my grandma!”

…When violence failed to get them the car, they started to appeal to emotions.

Unfortunately, Teacher Lu was driving, and he seemed to be naturally allergic to empathy. Seeing a gap appear ahead, he stomped on the gas pedal, charging directly through the crowd. Even when someone had set up a roadblock with abandoned vehicles, Teacher Lu crashed right through it.

The large vehicle sped away, and Teacher Lu drove a long distance before stopping.

“Get out.”

He said suddenly.

Chu Yian met his gaze, suddenly understanding his meaning. She quickly jumped out of the car, holding the cocked pistol.

The two hurried to the back of the car. Teacher Lu gestured for her to aim inside.

Chu Yian nodded slightly, indicating she was ready. Teacher Lu then abruptly pulled open the motorcycle door… Several people were hidden in the cargo hold, all of whom had climbed in unnoticed. When Chu Yian aimed her pistol at them, they all huddled together in a panic.

Their faces were full of alarm, looking very pitiful.

Chu Yian didn’t dare to pity them casually. They were only about thirty kilometers away from the safe zone, and she was afraid of an unexpected mishap.

But not saving them… Chu Yian hesitated for two seconds, then voiced her opinion, “Teacher Lu, it’s only about twenty more minutes. Let them stay in the cargo box.”

She was barely able to protect herself, let alone others.

Teacher Lu looked at her expressionlessly. “As you wish.”

Chu Yian’s lips curved slightly at his words, then quickly flattened. Her expression was cold and stern as she scanned the people who had sneaked onto the truck. “Since you’re all on the truck, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

No getting out on the road, no making any noise.

If you can’t do that, I’ll drag all of you out to feed the zombies!”

For maximum safety, even when saving people, threats were necessary.

After she finished speaking, the people inside looked terrified but also relieved, as if to say that they would do anything as long as they were allowed to stay.

The vehicle set off again.

The further they drove towards Fulen County, the more zombie corpses were piled up like mountains on both sides of the road. The stench of decaying bodies made one dizzy, yet the road conditions were surprisingly good.

Clearly, someone had been continuously clearing this road.

More than half an hour later, Chu Yian saw the road sign by the roadside—Fulen County.

They had finally arrived!

Chu Yian gazed into the distance. Ahead was a high wall constructed from shipping containers, not yet fully completed, with large cranes still operating.

A large number of weapons were placed on top of the high wall.

Soldiers moved about above, and the high wall gave a great sense of security.

Seeing the vehicle, the isolation gate opened.

As soon as Teacher Lu drove the car in, they were surrounded by a group of soldiers. Doctors checked their bodies, and soldiers searched their backpacks.

Chu Yian’s pistol was taken away.

“The safe zone is still inside. People can enter, it’s a three-kilometer walk.”

The person in charge here said coldly, indicating that even their car would be confiscated.

Several armed soldiers stood nearby. No one could say no to such a mandatory requisition.

Just then, Teacher Lu suddenly pulled out an ID from his jacket pocket. “Biochemical virus researcher Lu Qingyuan. I need a car to get to the safe zone as quickly as possible.”

Hearing this name, the person in charge took out a small booklet from his embrace.

Chu Yian stealthily leaned over to take a look. The cover of the booklet read “Priority Rescue Personnel,” and his name was prominently displayed on the first page.

Lu Qingyuan, Academician, Virology Expert.

He truly was the man who got special car service.

Chu Yian wasn’t shocked, but she was very reverent.

The safe zone’s person in charge was also stunned by this sudden revelation of identity. Who would have thought that the priority rescue personnel, whom they had spent a lot of manpower and resources trying to save, would actually appear at the safe zone on his own?

The person in charge’s attitude instantly did a complete 180-degree turn. “Alright, Academician Lu, do you require a specialized vehicle?”

“Yes.”

Teacher Lu nodded slightly, then looked at the truck’s cargo hold. “There are some people who came along inside; remember to inspect them carefully.”

“Understood.”

The person in charge nodded. “Are they your relatives or friends?”

“I don’t know them.”

Hearing this, the person in charge looked at Chu Yian, who was standing behind Teacher Lu. “Then this person…”

Chu Yian couldn’t help but straighten her back, looking at him expectantly.

“She’s leaving with me.”

Chu Yian clasped her hands together, grateful to Academician Lu.

The journey they would have had to walk was now covered by a small car, thanks to Teacher Lu.

Fulen County was chosen as a safe zone because of its unique geographical location. It was surrounded by water on all four sides, with only one bridge connecting the two areas. However, the bridge had been blown up, leaving the ferry as the only way to cross.

At this moment, countless people stood at the dock, waiting.

The small car escorting them drove directly onto the ferry via a special aisle.

Accompanied by the roar of the engine, the boat moved further and further away, getting closer and closer to the safe zone. As the ferry docked on the other side of the bridge, the moment Chu Yian’s feet touched the ship, a mechanical broadcast sounded in her ears.

“Detected: Player has arrived at the safe zone.”

“Congratulations, Player, for clearing the novice game: Road to Survival. Please prepare, you will be extracted from the game in 10 seconds.”

This was safe?

She had cleared it?

Chu Yian, who had been aiming for five days, hadn’t quite processed it, and hearing the clearance broadcast still felt somewhat surreal.

“Countdown 10”

“9”

“8”

…Chu Yian looked at Teacher Lu beside her. Although they were strangers, they had supported each other in a world overrun by zombies and made it this far. She couldn’t help but rush over and hug him. “Thank you, Teacher Lu, for your care these past two days. You must survive in this zombie-ridden world!”

As soon as she finished speaking, she didn’t have time to see his reaction.

The mechanical number “0” sounded in her ears.

Her vision suddenly went black, and she felt dizzy. When she opened her eyes again, she was back on the small sofa in her rental apartment.

The surroundings were still pitch black.

Only the floating light screen in the air emitted a faint glow. “Congratulations on becoming the 3210th player to clear the game. You will receive a reward: 100 points.”

After Chu Yian finished reading this sentence, the text on the light screen changed.

“Player: Chu Yian”

“ID: 3210”

“Gender: Female”

“Satiety: 90%”

“Cleanliness: 90%”

“Health: 100%”

“Potential: 5 (Max 10)”

“Points: 100 (No Max)”
