Chapter 142: Don’t Leave Anyone Behind!
“Little Yellow!” Sister Cai screamed in agony.
Flash Delivery Yellow Knight slowly raised his head. There was no agony on his pale face, only a tired, bittersweet smile of pure relief.
He looked up at his companions, whose eyes were completely bloodshot. Gathering the very last ounce of strength in his chest, his broken voice came out in ragged gasps:
“Go… hurry… leave me…”
“I… was never… a burden to this team…”
“I finally… protected everyone… for once…”
His voice faded into a soft whisper, yet his eyes shone with an unyielding brightness, as if he had finally fulfilled his sacred purpose.
With one final surge of will, he lunged forward. Wrapping both arms tightly around the ankle of the agile rogue who had ambushed him, he locked on like an iron vice, buying his companions a few precious seconds to break through.
Trapped in place, the assailant panicked, stabbing his dagger down into Little Yellow’s back again and again.
Seeing that the courier still wouldn’t let go, another thug stepped up and fired a blast from his combat shotgun point-blank. The brutal concussive force hurled Little Yellow’s battered body across the carpet. He hit the floor with a dull thud, his chest crushed and still, all signs of life extinguished.
“Move!” Peace and Violence roared, his vision swimming with tears of pure fury. He knew this was no time to mourn.
He dragged the sobbing Young Miss to her feet. Together with Milk Tea and Sister Cai, they seized the narrow window bought by Little Yellow’s sacrifice, sprinting desperately toward the elevator bank.
The Young Miss wept uncontrollably, trying to wrench herself free to run back. “Little Yellow… we can’t leave him behind! We can’t!”
Milk Tea was shaking violently, her face wet with tears. For the very first time, the brutal reality of this survival world crashed down on her: her teammates could truly die.
And she was utterly powerless to stop it.
She had sworn to use her life to shield every member of the squad. Yet when a friend fell right before her eyes, all her medical skills were completely useless. She could only watch him lie broken on the cold floor, waiting to be trampled by ruthless enemies.
Sister Cai’s teeth ground together so hard they drew blood, her entire frame trembling with rage. But Lin Huai had entrusted these people to her care; she had to see them through. Little Yellow was gone, and she refused to let another life be stolen today.
Wrapping a strong arm around each of the two girls, she hauled them forward with everything she had. “Miss, Milk Tea, run!”
“We find Lin Huai first! Then we come back and tear every last one of them to pieces!”
Gasping for breath, the four stumbled back to the elevator lobby—only to see the panel indicator pointing downward. The car was locked in descent and would not climb.
Behind them, the pack of opportunistic scavengers had already caught up, fanning out to block every escape route.
Sister Cai leaned her back against the elevator doors, her dual blades raised as she glared at the closing circle. “Aren’t you just after our supplies? Let us go, and everything in our packs is yours!”
These attackers did not belong to a single guild. They were an opportunistic mob drawn from various territories across District 10, banding together solely to hunt wealthy survivors.
A scowling thug sneered, “Handing over scraps won’t cut it. What you choose to surrender isn’t nearly as good as what we can rip off your corpses.”
Another man chuckled nastily. “Exactly. Who knows what high-tier treasures you’d hold back? Besides, if we let you walk, what’s stopping you from bringing a hit squad to hunt us down later?”
“Hahaha, precisely! Soft-hearted fools don’t survive in this game, little lady. You should know the rules by now.”
The leader leveled his rifle. “Winner takes all. Don’t blame us for ganging up on you—blame yourselves for flashing so much wealth!”
With that, they stepped forward to finish the job.
Ding!
A crisp chime echoed from the elevator shaft behind them. Peace and Violence snapped his submachine gun around instantly, bracing for another wave of hostile survivors to pour out of the cabin.
The heavy doors slid apart.
The moment the interior came into view, Peace and Violence’s hands dropped. The Young Miss and Milk Tea collapsed into fresh sobs of overwhelming relief.
Sister Cai whipped her head around, her bruised face lighting up with fierce hope.
“Boss! We… we held out for you…”
Stepping out at the head of her group, Lin Huai took in the horrifying scene: the lobby was torn to shreds, enemy scavengers were closing in for the kill, and Sister Cai, Brother He Ping, Milk Tea, and the Young Miss were all bloodied and trembling from sheer exhaustion.
A few yards away, Flash Delivery Yellow Knight lay lifeless in a dark pool of blood.
“Little Yellow!”
Fastest Hand at SF Express and Hungry Spirit Blue Knight let out simultaneous roars of grief and anguish.
Lin Huai’s eyes turned pitch-black with frost. An overwhelming, suffocating aura of killing intent erupted from her body like an active volcano.
“Not a single one… leaves this room alive.”
Her voice was barely above a whisper, yet it rang like a death sentence straight from the depths of the underworld.
The moment Lin Huai and her elite frontline joined the fray, the momentum reversed entirely.
The very scavengers who had been laughing and boasting seconds ago were thrown into utter disarray. Within moments, they were driven to their knees, weeping and begging for mercy.
Lin Huai walked forward, pressing the smoking barrel of her submachine gun directly against the leader’s trembling forehead. Her gaze held no warmth—only cold, absolute finality.
“Soft-hearted fools don’t survive in this game,” she echoed quietly, her voice flat. “Those were your words. I’m just handing them back.”
“The moment you laid hands on my teammate, you should have known this was how you’d die.”
Bang!
A sharp gunshot cracked through the hall. The pleading thug dropped like a stone, dark blood pooling beneath his shattered brow as his lifeless eyes stared blindly into the distance.
Nearby, the Young Miss and Milk Tea were on their knees beside Little Yellow’s body.
Milk Tea’s hands shook uncontrollably as she tore open high-grade healing salves, spirit elixirs, and rolls of sterile bandages from her pouch. Tears streamed down her cheeks like broken pearls. Wiping them away with a bloody forearm, she kept wrapping his wounds in a desperate frenzy.
Every clean white bandage turned crimson the second it touched his skin. Yet neither girl stopped, desperately trying to bind every tear in his torn flesh.
“Brother Long, Old Wang,” Lin Huai said without looking back. “I’m checking on Little Yellow. Clean up the rest.”
“Leave none alive.”
“Understood!”
The delivery brothers were in a frenzy of grief. Fastest Hand at SF Express and Hungry Spirit Blue Knight sprayed automatic fire into the retreating cowards, roaring through their tears: “You murdered our brother! Every single one of you dies today!”
With Dragon Emerging from the Sea and the veterans controlling the hall, Lin Huai stepped past the carnage and knelt beside Little Yellow.
Seeing Milk Tea and the Young Miss still desperately wrapping bandages through their sobs, Lin Huai reached out, gently resting her hand on Milk Tea’s shaking shoulder.
“Milk Tea… stop. It’s too late…”
Hearing Lin Huai’s voice, the young girl broke down entirely, burying her face against her bloody sleeves. “Sister Bone Ash… I tried everything! I used every skill I had! Why won’t the bleeding stop…?”
“I just wanted to save him… I really wanted to save Brother Little Yellow…”
The Young Miss slumped onto the blood-soaked carpet, her hands slick with red. She looked up at Lin Huai with raw, helpless eyes: “Boss… Little Yellow is gone… What are we going to do?”
She turned back to the still, cold face of the young courier, her voice cracking into a ragged sob: “Little Yellow… please wake up! As long as you open your eyes, I’ll lend you all the money you need! No interest, ever! I’ll buy all the parts to max out your van, okay? Just wake up…”
