Chapter 361: Extra Story (Part Three)
Gu Xueying’s tears fell to the ground as if they were worthless.
At this moment, she resented her fate more than anything—after all, she was the one who had no choice.
The only way to change her destiny was to find a marriage alliance stronger than the Gu family.
But the person who should have chosen her had chosen Xu Youyou instead!
Gu Xueying had once thought that if she could see Xu Youyou just one more time… she would make sure they perished together—this person who had stolen her life!
Rather than waiting for Gu Yuji, that lunatic, to declare her final sentence like this!
“You have a much stronger mentality than your mother, do you know that? Do you know why your mother went insane? It was because she gave birth to you, a wretched spawn, a being that never should have existed in this world!” Gu Yuji whispered softly.
Gu Xueying’s eyes widened. She had always thought her biological mother was merely her father’s mistress, but she never considered that history was simply repeating itself in their generation.
Gu Yuji continued in her deranged state: “She was already on the verge of breaking, yet even knowing this child wasn’t meant to exist, she still developed motherly feelings. She used every possible means to swap you and Xu Youyou, letting you enjoy over twenty years of wealth and luxury.”
Gu Xueying was filled with hatred. Had she known that she would end up like this, she would rather have lived like Xu Youyou, struggling for every scrap of food.
“This place is filthy, and so are all of you.”
Gu Yuji murmured under her breath.
Outside the villa district, the sound of police sirens rang through the air. The crimes of Gu Shuangbai were undeniable, and the police, having not encountered such a heinous case in a long time, had issued an arrest warrant as soon as they had gathered enough evidence.
However, just as the police cars entered the villa complex, a sudden, deafening explosion shook the entire district, leaving everyone in shock.
They felt as if time had lost all meaning. How could such a massive explosion happen in the most prestigious villa district of a top-tier city in China?
The ground trembled. It took a long time before the residents of the district recovered and turned to look toward the source of the explosion.
Thick black smoke was rising from the Gu family’s villa.
The other homeowners couldn’t help but feel relieved that the villa density in the area was low—at least their own properties weren’t affected by the blast.
“How many people were in the Gu family’s villa? Evacuate the surrounding residents immediately!”
The police officers in the cars quickly initiated emergency protocols.
The next morning, the online post that Gu Yuji had published about the Gu family scandal had not yet faded from public attention before the news of the explosion completely overtook it.
Xu Youyou had just woken up when she was notified that two police officers were waiting for her in her living room.
The two officers—one male, one female—had bloodshot eyes, evidently having stayed up all night.
“Miss Xu, there was a major explosion at the Gu family’s villa last night. According to the servants, Gu Yuji gave them all time off three days before the explosion. Surveillance footage outside the villa shows that at the time of the explosion, there were three people inside: Gu Shuangbai, Gu Yuji, and the pregnant Gu Xueying.”
Xu Youyou listened patiently to the police briefing, but she couldn’t figure out what this had to do with her.
The male officer carefully observed Xu Youyou’s expression. Seeing no trace of sadness on her face, only a calm indifference, he spoke a little more urgently:
“Miss Xu, according to the online post, these three people were your blood relatives. The rest of the Gu family has been missing for a long time. If nothing unexpected happens, you should be the sole heir to the Gu family’s assets. Did you know that?”
Xu Youyou shook her head. “I really didn’t know. After all, I never took a DNA test with them. Even if I wanted to inherit anything, I doubt I could.”
The police officer was momentarily stunned. “No DNA test? But the online post—”
“The Gu family was certain that I was their lost daughter. But when they tried to recognize me, they were so condescending about it. I didn’t like it. I’m not lacking money, and I certainly don’t need a bunch of people bossing me around, so I never acknowledged them.”
One of the police’s theories about the explosion was that Xu Youyou had murdered the Gu family’s remaining heirs to seize their fortune.
Xu Youyou said, “Why would you think I want to inherit the Gu family’s assets? Honestly, weren’t they on the verge of bankruptcy? I don’t even know if I’d be inheriting wealth or debt. Besides, with how much of a philanderer that old Gu man was, I highly doubt I’m the only illegitimate daughter out there.”
The officers’ expressions turned increasingly strange.
Xu Youyou raised an eyebrow. “There really are other illegitimate children?”
The police officer sighed helplessly. “Miss Xu, this is an ongoing investigation, so we can’t disclose too much. We hope you understand. But if you have any other information, please let us know.”
Xu Youyou, who had nothing to hide, remained relaxed. “Actually, I do have something. About a year ago in Jinling City, I ran into the Gu siblings. At the time, Gu Xueying was already pregnant. Judging by Gu Yuji’s anxious behavior, it seemed like the baby was his.”
“Cough! Cough! Cough!“
The officer who had just picked up his water glass was so startled that he nearly dropped it.
“Aren’t they siblings? Even if they’re not related by blood, they were still raised as siblings!” the female officer said in shock.
Xu Youyou nodded seriously. “That’s what I thought too!”
Gu Yuji’s online post had revealed shocking details, but he had still held back some secrets—he hadn’t exposed Gu Xueying’s illegitimate birth, nor had he revealed their illicit relationship.
Xu Youyou then casually added, “Speaking of which, Gu Xueying was also very close with Gu Shuangbai.”
The two officers couldn’t help but be led into thinking that the explosion was a crime of passion.
No one had expected that, while their reasoning was entirely wrong, their conclusion was actually correct.
The Gu family explosion case sparked heated discussions, but no matter how sensational it was, new scandals always emerged to replace it.
Two months after the explosion, the police issued two official reports.
One was regarding the investigation into Gu Shuangbai’s crimes. Even though he was dead, his studio had implicated a large number of people. Rather than stopping the investigation after his death, law enforcement discovered even more evidence, which led them to the studio’s parent company—Wu Holdings’ entertainment division. The entire case unraveled like a loose thread, dragging many down with it. Several people ended up behind bars due to their failure to destroy evidence in time.
As for the Gu family explosion case, the police did not rely solely on Xu Youyou’s testimony. They interviewed many of the Gu family’s servants and the assistants of the three deceased individuals. After cross-referencing multiple sources of evidence, they finally classified the explosion as a crime of passion.
