Chapter 111: The Battle for Godfather
“Ms. Liu, you have too many videos and photos on your phone. Delete some of them,” Xu Youyou said.
Auntie Liu immediately shook her head. “I can’t! They’re all pictures of Guai Guai.”
Xu Youyou had expected this answer. She tried to persuade her, “But you’ve already uploaded them, right? There’s no need to keep them on your phone. You can just delete them.”
Still unwilling, Auntie Liu replied, “Not everywhere has Wi-Fi. I don’t want to use up my mobile data just to look at Guai Guai’s photos—it costs money!”
Xu Youyou chuckled. She could tell Auntie Liu genuinely cared about Guai Guai. Turning to Xu Fang, she said, “Gather the phone numbers of all the housekeepers and set up a monthly top-up of 200 yuan for each of them.”
This was a benefit that all employees in her company already received. She had just overlooked including the housekeepers.
“From now on, you don’t have to worry about phone bills anymore,” Xu Youyou told Auntie Liu.
Auntie Liu hadn’t expected her casual complaint to earn her such a perk. Her face wrinkled up with joy from her wide grin.
Xu Youyou glanced at Auntie Liu’s phone again and added, “From now on, housekeepers will also receive a new phone every two years, just like you all do.”
The phones issued to Xu Fang and the security team cost over 7,000 yuan each. This meant the housekeepers would now receive phones of the same quality.
Xu Fang responded immediately, “Boss, once we return to Shanghai, I’ll arrange for the housekeepers’ new phones right away.”
Xu Youyou nodded and gave Xu Fang a longer look. For some reason, Xu Fang’s efficiency and style seemed oddly familiar. It was as if she was deliberately imitating Assistant Liu.
But Xu Youyou didn’t stop her—after all, Assistant Liu was a top-tier aide, a true all-rounder. When they were abroad, nothing happened to Lu Jingyao as long as Assistant Liu was around. The moment he left, Lu Jingyao got into trouble. That showed just how important he was.
“Guai Guai, your mom is getting me a new phone! The pictures I take of you will be even better now!” Auntie Liu said happily.
Guai Guai was thrilled. “Woof woof! A regular phone could never capture even a tenth of my beauty!”
Xu Youyou scooped up the little dog and gave it a good rub. “You’re just a little mutt, yet you’re so full of yourself.”
Guai Guai snorted. “The most confident dog is the most beautiful!”
Xu Youyou guessed this was probably the result of too much exposure to that animated show about a dog king. Where else would Guai Guai learn such lines?
“Woof woof! You’re my mom, but who’s my dad?” Guai Guai suddenly asked.
Xu Youyou’s first instinct was to say Lu Jingyao, but she quickly shook her head. “I’m not actually your mom. I’m your owner.”
Guai Guai refused to accept this title. “Forget it. Don’t be my mom. Just keep being my poop scooper.”
Xu Youyou was reminded of something. After registering on the parent-baby app, she sent an invite link to Lu Jingyao. When the app prompted her to choose a relationship label, she hesitated for two seconds over the word “Dad” before silently skipping it.
Lu Jingyao had his own place in the capital and had invited Xu Youyou to stay at the Lu family mansion, but she declined. After leaving the airport, they went their separate ways.
At that moment, Lu Jingyao was in his car, focused on work. When he heard a notification sound, he glanced at his phone casually—only to freeze when he saw the app icon featuring a photo of Guai Guai.
The app was simple to use. He clicked the link, registered his number, and reached the section for choosing his relationship with Guai Guai. Looking at the existing members—one labeled “Housekeeper Grandma” and another labeled “Mom”—he was momentarily tempted to select “Dad.”
After a long internal struggle, he ultimately settled on “Godfather.”
Xu Youyou had no idea about his mental battle. Remembering that the narcissistic Guai Guai had another admirer, she casually sent a link to Song Zhibai as well.
Meanwhile, in Shanghai, Song Zhibai had just finished shooting a scene when he saw Xu Youyou’s message. After registering, he checked the family list. With a quick guess, he knew the other person was Lu Jingyao.
Seeing that even Lu Jingyao hadn’t dared to pick “Dad,” Song Zhibai wasn’t about to be shameless either. Instead, he chose “Adoptive Father.”
When Xu Youyou looked at the app’s updates, she saw that these two men seemed to be competing. Both had set Guai Guai’s photo as their profile picture, and to make things worse, they had chosen the exact same picture. For a moment, she couldn’t even tell who was who.
Her phone kept buzzing with notifications. The two men were in some kind of silent battle, racing to like every single photo and video of Guai Guai. It was as if they thought whoever liked more would prove they cared the most.
Xu Youyou couldn’t understand this strange male competitiveness. Annoyed, she simply turned off notifications and threw her phone aside.
The car ride from the airport to the hotel took over an hour.
This time, Xu Youyou was staying at the Capital Hotel. She was lucky—it was the off-season for tourism, so she successfully booked the presidential suite.
The 888-square-meter suite was reportedly the most luxurious one in the country.
After checking in, Xie Ran put down his luggage without any intention of resting. “I’m going to see some classmates,” he said before disappearing in an instant.
Xu Youyou silently admired his dedication and hoped he would keep pushing himself—maybe even help their boss become the richest man in the world.
She, however, had no intention of working. She flopped onto the soft bed, took a nice nap, and woke up just in time for her scheduled private tour.
Her first stop was a restaurant said to be a favorite among locals. While it featured classic Beijing flavors, the dishes had been slightly adjusted for outsiders. Xu Youyou had been prepared for disappointment but was pleasantly surprised by how much she enjoyed the meal.
The tour team she hired wasn’t just an ordinary guide service—it was a high-end VIP experience. The team included a makeup artist, a photographer, a tour guide, and even a post-production editor for retouching photos. Basically, they were an all-in-one luxury service.
Of course, the price was equally extravagant: 100,000 yuan per day.
Xu Youyou traveled at a leisurely pace, and the tour guides loved clients like her. They did everything they could to keep her entertained.
“Ms. Xu, you pose so well! Every shot looks like a magazine cover!”
“Ms. Xu, not only do you take great photos, but your skin is amazing! You don’t even need foundation—what’s your secret?”
With all the constant flattery, Xu Youyou almost got carried away.
After strolling around the Forbidden City, she had to admit—no wonder ancient emperors loved flatterers. This tour team had spent the whole day praising her, and she was almost tempted to bring them back to Shanghai with her.
