Chapter 88: I Know Everything
Father Gu finally woke up.
Then he learned that the news of his coma had been concealed.
He was very angry. The other party knelt down and begged him not to sue.
After all, the losses from a lawsuit would be significant.
He looked at the 200,000 yuan the other party offered and the fact that he had indeed been in the hospital for four years. Although he hadn’t received very good care, the muscles in his legs had atrophied a lot, it was already quite conscientious.
He compromised.
Because he wanted to see his family even more, and he didn’t want them to know that he had been in a coma for four years.
When his legs finally recovered enough for him to walk without problems and he returned home, what he heard was the news of his wife’s critical illness and emergency rescue.
By the time he arrived, his wife had already died despite the rescue efforts.
His daughter looked at him with a gaze full of disappointment, pain, and resentment, saying that he didn’t deserve to be her father. Since he hadn’t appeared for so many years, he should never appear before her again.
He wanted to explain, but he wasn’t good with words, and he indeed felt guilty.
So the father and daughter never saw each other again.
He silently paid attention to everything about his daughter.
He had gone to her school, taking a distant look at his daughter. He had gone to her workplace and inquired about the security company.
When his daughter was harassed by her boss, he found an opportunity to drag that supervisor to a remote place and beat him up, at the cost of being detained for a month.
He knew his daughter had been cheated on, so he worked desperately, wanting to save up for a house for her so that she could have enough capital to live well on her own.
He added his daughter on a small account, pretending to be her former elementary school classmate. He didn’t chat, only looked at her Moments every day, trying to learn about things in his daughter’s world.
Everything was fine, perhaps with the passage of time, Gu Baixue could let go of her resentment.
But then, he died.
He died in an accident.
Originally, it shouldn’t have been fatal, but the injuries he had previously suffered caused him to fall into a brief coma. So he died of suffocation after falling into a puddle.
After his death, his soul did not dissipate.
He walked blankly on the street until he arrived at his daughter’s company.
His daughter was working overtime, it was already late at night.
She couldn’t see him.
He followed her home.
Then, he discovered that his daughter was being targeted.
Targeted by something inhuman.
He tried everything he could to warn his daughter, but it was useless.
However, his daughter’s neighbor had special eyes and saw him. Unfortunately, this couldn’t let his daughter know about the ghost.
They all thought that neighbor was just crazy.
He tried very hard to contact his daughter every day. But apart from making her sick with a cold, he couldn’t even get into her dreams.
One day, two days, seven days.
Gu Baixue died.
Died in front of him.
Eaten alive by those twisted monsters, a horrible death.
He couldn’t stop it.
He roared in despair.
Endless resentment finally gave him a physical form and power at that moment.
He killed all those monsters.
But it was too late.
A voice told him, do you want your daughter to come back to life? As long as she can survive these seven days, she can be reborn.
He agreed.
He didn’t know what that thing was, definitely not something good, maybe even the culprit who killed his daughter, but as long as his daughter could come back to life, anything was fine.
So he lived in those seven days forever.
From the night of his death to the night of Gu Baixue’s death. He endlessly reincarnated within those seven days, but he never saw his daughter anywhere.
He was deceived.
Those daughters were all fake.
He knew.
He had even heard them talking, they said he was an NPC, they said this was a game.
More anger and resentment made his strength grow, but it also plunged him into an even more painful abyss.
He didn’t have that knife at first; he picked it up after it dropped from a player.
That player was very strong, and it took him a lot of effort to kill him. Before dying, that player said in disbelief, “How could I be killed by you game NPCs!”
From that day on, he never let any player go.
What NPC? That was his daughter!!
Those were living people!
That was the daughter he could never find again in this lifetime!
But they were controlled by these people, by the so-called game. Was everything just a game? How could they? How dare they?!
His strength grew stronger and stronger, and the strength of the players who entered also increased. According to them, the game had been upgraded.
He became even more angry and desperate.
So he would hunt down every player.
Some of these people were very good at hiding, they could hide for seven days, and then they would disappear.
That was called clearing the game.
He could feel that whenever they were about to leave the game, the whole world would undergo some changes.
So often at this time, he would kill the other party even more recklessly.
They were all liars!!
All of them should die!
This game was originally no different from the past.
But Bai Cha acted too well.
She was exactly the same as the daughter he saw in his memories, not in appearance. He knew appearances could be deceiving. As long as he killed these players, they would revert to their original forms.
It was her behavior.
From her words to her reactions, from her habits to her personality, every move, every detail, was so similar.
Even though he always knew that this was definitely not his daughter.
Because while the players explored the game, he also explored, and he discovered more secrets.
He had no intention of exploring what was behind these secrets, but he completely accepted one reality.
His daughter would never appear again.
He was deceived by the game.
However, knowing was one thing, but he couldn’t control himself.
He knew she was acting, but he couldn’t help but get into the role.
If… if this was really his daughter, that would be great.
He watched her countless times, as if seeing his own daughter. Knowing everything, perhaps this was truly the reaction.
Maybe his daughter would make up stories casually when facing guests she didn’t want to deal with, like the fireworks factory exploding, which was both funny and impossible to refute.
Maybe he would really hear his daughter say she loved him, that she never hated him, that she would call him Dad again, and that she would completely trust him when encountering danger.
“I know you’re not Xiaoxue,”
His voice seemed to be in the water, a little unclear.
“But I’m really happy.”
“And I finally said those words that I wanted to say but never had the chance to.”
“So child, don’t cry, don’t be afraid.”
“I know you’re not my child, but I want to protect my child.”
“I will offer all my strength to you, so that you can have a healthy body and the ability to protect yourself.”
“And, Xiaoxue, Dad loves you too.”

Everything had only passed in a short three seconds.
Father Gu completely disappeared.
A section of dodder vine gently wrapped around her wrist, and a flower bud quietly bloomed.
[Congratulations on unlocking a personal skill hidden skill: When someone willingly sacrifices their power for you, you will gain all of their power, filling yourself. Within the game world, you will become powerful.]
[Gentle reminder: Dodder vine cannot grow on its own. Therefore, if there is no subsequent nutrient supply, when the power is exhausted, you will also wither—]
The end of the dodder was wrapped around a tree branch, and white five-petaled flowers bloomed quietly.
[Congratulations on obtaining a hawthorn branch that can be brought into reality. Planting it in the game world can summon the vengeful ghost Gu Chen once to help you fight. After the battle ends, the hawthorn branch will die.]
[Gentle reminder: If brought into reality, it is just a withered, slow-to-wither ordinary branch without any power—]
Clang—
Father Gu’s knife fell to the ground.
[Congratulations on obtaining the item: Pig-slaughtering Knife. Poor soul, after being killed by the pig-slaughtering knife, is also sealed within the blade, cursing everyone who uses it to never be reincarnated!]

Author’s Note:
That’s right, this was originally a small, warm horror story.
The original intention was to write about the safety issues of living alone. At first, I thought about a perverted man pretending to be a netizen spying, and he was also a ghost. But when I started writing, I suddenly felt that being scary for the sake of being scary was too uninteresting.
Those who secretly spy are not necessarily perverts, but also family, friends, or lovers who are not good at expressing themselves.
Moreover, there are many dangers in this world. In recent years, there have been a significant increase in heinous events in society. There are already enough dark things. When reading stories, there’s no need to add to the gloom. Human nature is ugly, but it is also beautiful.
The final scene of the ending naturally appeared in my mind after I finished writing.
To write this scene as well as possible, I wrote the preceding parts in great detail, which actually made the pacing feel a bit slow, but it seems like the reception was okay?
But I still feel like what I wrote is a bit… anyway, the image in my mind was more beautiful, damn it! My writing skills aren’t good enough, but it should be better than the first instance, right? When I was writing the first instance, I was suffering from a high fever and brain fog due to COVID, and my brain couldn’t function at all.
I will continue to work hard!
There’s still an epilogue to this story, mwah, see you tomorrow!
