Chapter 271: The Dilapidated Building
When Bai Cha returned to reality, daylight had already broken bright and clear, but fortunately, today was the weekend.
Searching up the living environments required for the flowers in her possession, she made a trip to the flower and bird market.
Carrying a pile of flowerpots back, Bai Cha suddenly realized she was planning to resign and move houses.
Bringing the flowers out had been a bit premature.
Regardless, it didn’t matter much.
Amidst her busyness, Bai Cha felt a faint ache in her stomach.
She paid it no mind at first, but the pain grew rather severe later on, even as hunger lingered in her stomach.
She felt quite a strong urge to eat something.
Frowning, Bai Cha set the last flower into water, lay down on the bed, and pressed against her stomach herself.
Truth be told, she couldn’t tell for sure.
Mainly because it was inconvenient on her own, paired with the fact that her entire upper abdomen was aching now.
After giving it thought, she got up anyway, intending to visit the hospital to check if it was appendicitis.
Her aunt’s husband had suffered from appendicitis when she was young; it had started with pain merely in the upper abdomen resembling a stomachache, even though nothing was actually wrong with the stomach, and only after four or five hours did the pain shift to the appendix location in the lower abdomen.
She had kept a deeply vivid memory of this matter all along.
After all, she frequently suffered from stomachaches, and her abdomen experienced inexplicable pain from time to time as well.
Yet no issue ever turned up despite repeated medical checks.
The doctor claimed it might be due to excessive stress on her part.
Yet the pain at this moment differed from the past; paired with the fact that she had suffered mild diarrhea during her illness a few days ago, and was running a slight low-grade fever again today, Bai Cha felt it was best to go to the hospital for a checkup.
A hospital was located nearby; riding an electric scooter would take perhaps ten minutes, whereas taking a taxi would actually take twenty minutes due to needing to make a U-turn.
Bai Cha unlocked a shared electric scooter.
Navigating the process alone at the hospital, she completed the examinations.
However, for a condition like appendicitis, if no obvious perforation or suppuration was present, an ultrasound couldn’t detect much either, leaving the judgment entirely to the doctor; Bai Cha was merely in pain, yet it hadn’t reached an unbearable degree—not even as painful as her menstrual cramps.
“How about putting you on an IV first? Even if this is appendicitis, it doesn’t look severe. Let’s try a day of IV fluids to see how it goes and observe in the meantime to check if the pain shifts to the lower abdomen later. It hasn’t transferred over yet, or if you prefer to undergo surgery directly, that works as well.”
Bai Cha hesitated briefly; undergoing surgery required at least a friend’s signature.
“Let’s go with the IV fluids first then.”
After finishing the IV fluids, the pain indeed shifted to the lower abdomen; it was indeed appendicitis.
The doctor prescribed some medication for her, instructing her to take it on time after returning home.
Bai Cha’s pain was no longer as noticeable by now.
Still, this had dragged on for the better part of a day.
It was four in the afternoon by this point.
Bai Cha intended to step out for a bite to eat.
The noodles near her company were quite decent, and given her current state, she could only manage pasta and noodles.
Thus, she headed to the floor beneath her company.
However, she ran into a person downstairs.
Shen Qingchen’s husband, surname Yang. Back when she applied for the job, the owner’s name was listed on the company profile, and if memory served right, the man was named Yang Qingyun.
Appearing to have just come down from upstairs carrying a briefcase in hand, he froze slightly as well upon meeting Bai Cha face-to-face.
“It’s you… Bai Cha, right?”
Bai Cha nodded.
“Hello, President Yang.”
Yang Qingyun merely nodded, brushing past her.
After walking out a few steps, he suddenly recalled something, turning back around.
“Qing-chen mentioned you plan to resign, is that right?”
“Yes. My health isn’t great, so I decided to head back and focus on resting for now.”
Yang Qingyun scrutinized her with a thoughtful look.
“You and Qing-chen are the same kind of person.”
His words sounded somewhat inexplicable, yet seemingly implied something deeper.
It was just that in the short term, it was hard to determine which part his subtle implication referred to.
“She likes you quite a bit. I know she carries certain secrets… when she brought you up to me, I could sense she probably gets along well with you.”
A trace of hesitation surfaced across Yang Qingyun’s face.
“So may I ask you a question?”
Bai Cha looked at him quietly.
“Please go ahead.”
Yang Qingyun let out a sigh.
“She… she carries a heavy heart, as if no matter what I do, she lacks a sense of security.”
“I want to know what on earth has been going on with her recently. You don’t need to tell me what her secrets are; I simply want to know: what can I do?”
Bai Cha scrutinized Yang Qingyun seriously; the other party displayed a sincere attitude, bearing no visible signs of lying.
Yet she spoke with caution nonetheless: “I think it’s best if you pose this question to Sister Shen directly.”
Bai Cha didn’t know Yang Qingyun, nor did she hold clarity regarding what kind of person he was; a matter like this was best left for Shen Qingchen herself to handle.
Yang Qingyun offered a bitter smile.
“Apologies, I was a bit abrupt, coming across as inexplicable… I’ve simply been feeling an inexplicable sense of panic and heart palpitations recently, as if something is about to happen, making me a bit impatient. My apologies.”
Refraining from speaking further, he added, “Go ahead with your day then, I’ll be off.”
Bai Cha nodded, watching him depart with her brows knitted slightly.
A thread of anxiety indeed hovered between Yang Qingyun’s eyebrows; if it truly stemmed from worrying about Shen Qingchen, then Shen Qingchen’s recent condition might genuinely be far from great.
After S9, is there truly only a single path leading to guaranteed death?
Bai Cha went to have a meal, returned to her residence, and took her medicine once more.
Then, she entered the game.
She sent a message to Liu Yuchen—whom Shen Qingchen had recommended to her—first, inviting him over to her place to chat.
Dilapidated as this property of hers was, using it as a stronghold posed zero issues.
Upon entering the game, every inch of her body throbbed with pain, rendering her abdominal pain unnoticeable by comparison instead.
For a single fleeting moment, she had even entertained the thought of performing an appendectomy on herself directly inside the game.
At any rate, her body’s healing speed was exceedingly fast right now.
Yet her understanding of the human body wasn’t particularly deep, and she genuinely couldn’t bring herself to perform the act of slicing open her own stomach to hunt for her appendix.
Liu Yuchen wouldn’t log online until eight o’clock; it was currently six.
Bai Cha entered Dr. Qin’s room, organizing the materials and documents inside the room.
The salty fish stench inside the room had finally dissipated.
She intended to thoroughly review the details regarding the Tai Sui; Dr. Qin might not possess an extensive understanding of the Tai Sui, yet the things he recorded ought to prove quite useful.
It had to be said that Dr. Qin as a person held value after all.
Every single recorded document regarding the Tai Sui was laid out neatly, rendering research exceedingly convenient.
Bai Cha read through them one by one.
Not until a message notification chimed did she stop.
[System Notice: A guest outside your house wishes to enter: your friend Liu Yuchen.]
Only then did Bai Cha realize over two hours had elapsed.
Approving it immediately, she stood up to receive her guest.
Liu Yuchen was a young man with delicate, handsome features, scrutinizing the property with a touch of amazement.
“This entire building belongs to you? Previously, we were all saying a dilapidated building had inexplicably popped up around here, yet it belonged to a private owner so no one could come over, leaving us wondering who possessed such unique taste.”
Having said this, he realized his mouth had run too fast.
“Apologies, I meant no offense, but owning an entire building is truly amazing. Properties inside the Game Town are exceedingly expensive; dilapidated as it is, it’s still quite enviable.”
Bai Cha, owner of the dilapidated building: “…”
It can’t really be called dilapidated, can it? Isn’t this simply lacking the funds for renovations? Certain rooms are still perfectly fine.
Bai Cha led him to a doctor’s office on the first floor; the preservation here remained intact, with tables, chairs, and even a computer present.
“Have a seat.”
“I won’t stand on ceremony with you either. Sister Shen told you, right? The reason I sought you out is because I was pulled into the game by someone else, and I heard you were as well.”
