Chapter 233: [Blessed with Longevity] Time for It to End
“Doctor Qin, what… what is going on here?”
Qin Fa cast a cold glance in her direction.
“I have no idea.”
“You lot, carry him downstairs to a ward first and give him a full-body examination.”
Saying this, he suddenly turned a sharp, piercing stare onto Bai Cha.
“Bai Cha, you had better not let me find out this has anything to do with you.”
Bai Cha froze, a look of complete bewilderment flashing across her face, followed by the indignation of being targeted out of nowhere.
“Doctor Qin, I didn’t…”
Qin Fa had already flicked his sleeves and turned to leave.
Bai Cha looked even more wronged now, casting dazed, helpless glances toward the surrounding nurses and doctors for aid.
At this moment, however, everyone’s minds were still preoccupied with the nurse who had just sprouted vines, leaving no one to pay her any mind.
A look of disappointment washed over Bai Cha’s face.
It was precisely at this moment that Qin Fa returned.
He had originally entered the elevator, yet had now doubled back, fixating his stare straight onto Bai Cha the moment he reappeared.
Bai Cha had long since grown accustomed to seeing her acting through to the absolute end; with or without an audience, she would perform the entire emotional narrative to completion.
Upon seeing Qin Fa double back out of the blue, her eyes lit up once more, her mouth parting as if desperate to explain what she hadn’t finished explaining moments ago.
Qin Fa caught zero flaws in her display. Yet he hadn’t returned to observe Bai Cha anyway.
“Find a few people to bring them to the treatment rooms for therapy.”
Delivering those instructions, he finally took his leave.
How could Bai Cha possibly go to the treatment room? Having reached this stage, she certainly wasn’t going to head over obediently.
Thereupon, Dodder Vines erupted from three individuals simultaneously.
Pathetic shrieks echoed continuously. Bai Cha retreated with a look of sheer terror, flattening herself against the wall in helpless panic.
Qin Fa had no choice but to turn around and return once more.
Before he could instruct anyone to react, a nurse came sprinting up from downstairs.
“Doctor Qin, this is bad! A patient downstairs has…” Before she could finish her sentence, the nurse caught sight of several medical staff members currently sprouting Dodder Vines in the corridor, her words instantly choking in her throat, her eyes wide with terror.
Though she hadn’t finished speaking, Qin Fa already understood that people downstairs had met with mishaps as well.
Qin Fa felt only an overwhelming, frantic wave of irritation.
He pressed one hand against the box concealed beneath his clothing.
Perhaps he couldn’t afford to stall like this any longer.
He knew the Tai Sui possessed other powers, yet he had never attempted to use them nor dared to try, because using them once in the past had nearly caused him to lose control.
And so, he hesitated after all.
In the brief window of his hesitation, Dodder Vines erupted from more and more medical staff members, and the same befell those elderly residents downstairs.
None of them died, all maintained in a locked, suspended state.
The speed was turning faster and faster.
Qin Fa finally decided to make his move.
Black threads sprouted from his body like tentacles, spreading outward toward the afflicted medical staff on both sides.
Bai Cha had long since “frightenedly” shrunk beside the nurse desk to observe in secret.
Catching sight of Qin Fa’s movements, Bai Cha examined them intently.
Those black threads indeed shared striking similarities with her Dodder Vines.
The black threads wrapped around the Dodder Vines, beginning to absorb the power of the Dodder Vines in reverse.
The Dodder Vines, meanwhile, absorbed the hosts’ life force to resist, while simultaneously blending back into the black threads in reverse.
It turned into a brutal tug-of-war.
Bai Cha thereupon triggered the Dodder Vine inside Qin Fa’s body, and at lightning speed.
Qin Fa sensed the anomaly within his own body instantly.
His life force was being rapidly drained away.
He retracted all his black threads right away, controlling his power in an attempt to snatch back his life force.
Yet the growth of the Dodder Vines remained utterly unstoppable.
Simultaneously, all the Dodder Vines were guided by Bai Cha, converging straight toward her.
And because these Dodder Vines covered such a vast surface area, under Bai Cha’s intentional concealment, Qin Fa failed to notice in the slightest.
All he could see were sky-blotting Dodder Vines, seemingly encasing the entire ward building.
A portion of these Dodder Vines grew directly into the ward rooms.
Whenever Bai Cha sensed a ghost, she casually helped resolve it on the spot, using it to replenish her own strength while she was at it.
At the same time, she cleared a path for the players—one that led straight to the window.
The players exchanged glances with one another, realizing their window of opportunity had arrived.
Carrying the three players who had undergone frontal lobotomies, they dashed toward the window.
The sixth floor was somewhat high, sure, but a massive bridge woven from Dodder Vine tendrils had been constructed for them; if they still couldn’t escape, they would be utter useless deadweight.
When Chang Yashi prepare to jump, she hesitated briefly, looking back into the corridor.
Bai Cha clearly held zero intention of departing.
Yet opportunity knocked but once—she leaped down directly regardless.
The bridge woven from Dodder Vine tendrils didn’t vanish as a result, however; even more Dodder Vines coiled around those patients, tossing them downstairs one by one.
Several players downstairs paused in shock.
“Catch them, let’s go together!” Chang Yashi snapped back to reality.
“Right! They can serve as human shields—on the off chance we can’t escape, we still have a crowd with us!” Qin Yu added as well.
The moment He Yan and Li Xiang were delivered downstairs, they knew this was definitely Bai Cha’s doing.
The two locked gazes.
“What about her? Where is she?” He Yan looked at Chang Yashi beside her.
“You mean Li Yun?” Chang Yashi paused, stunned. “She’s upstairs, isn’t she?”
He Yan fell silent.
“Forget it for now—is no one else being tossed down? Then let me lead the way!”
No more people were being thrown from above, and the vine bridge dispersed, creeping across the entire building.
A crowd of nursing home patients—whether having regained consciousness or remaining in a groggy stupor—ran toward the main gate together.
Reaching the front yard, someone turned his head to glance back at that building densely covered in yellow vines.
Immediately after, he grabbed the person beside him in sheer horror.
“Threads!”
That shout caused everyone to turn their heads to look back.
Amidst those yellow vines, fine black threads were bursting forth gradually.
One after another, until they blotted out the sky, wrapping around the yellow vines in reverse.
Like a spreading shadow, it enveloped the building while casting a heavy weight over everyone’s hearts.
“Don’t worry about it! Run first!”
Wasting time here would be throwing Bai Cha’s goodwill back in her face, wouldn’t it?
Yet many patients had come to a dead halt.
Because black threads resided within their bodies as well.
Noticeable anomalies caught the players’ eyes as they looked down at their own bodies; threads lingered on themselves as well.
These threads were few in number, yet they were rapidly flying toward the direction of the movement.
A player drew an item instantly, attempting to block them.
Yet even after severing them, new ones sprouted immediately, rendering them utterly powerless to stop it.
The yellow vines over there seemed to sense the anomaly on this end; delicate vines sprouted from the roses along the perimeter fence, wrapping around those black threads in midair, spreading all the way until they reached everyone’s wrists.
These were all traces of power left behind by Bai Cha earlier.
The players let out a collective breath of relief first, before calling out once more.
“Go!”
He Yan looked toward the direction of the ward building, her feet rooted to the spot as if unwilling to leave.
She reached out and gripped a vine in reverse.
Those black threads were draining their life force, yet the vines absorbed it back in reverse, piercing into their arms to restore that life force to them.
She let out a soft sigh, her eyes filled with peaceful relief.
So what if it was restored to them? They couldn’t leave either.
They were already dead.
As the distance to the main gate shrank, memories of the past resurfaced once more.
They had died long ago; what remained here were merely lingering souls incapable of achieving liberation for a lifetime.
She had once believed that death could bring an end to everything.
Yet it hadn’t.
Now, to be granted liberation after death was already fortunate enough.
Li Xiang squeezed a vine as well, her other hand holding He Yan’s hand tight.
In truth… even if her husband hadn’t died back then, she had intended to kill him.
Because her second child had been beaten to a miscarriage by her husband while still in her womb as well.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t sought help, yet none of it worked; even after she raised the idea of divorce, even her family was subjected to beatings.
Even after he died, she had still been haunted for so many years.
Regardless, it was finally over.
