Chapter 195: What Kind of Person Does Boss Su Like?
That piece of land did indeed belong to Leopard Path.
Fortunately, as a doctor stationed at the rear, Lei Xing and his people had never seen him before and didn’t know he was associated with Gu Mingchi.
Zhong Gaoyi pretended to be indifferent as he had the injured Leopard Path team members lie down on the chairs.
Lei Xing waved his hand. “Dr. Zhong, just give them a quick check-up. It’s mainly to give Boss Su some peace of mind.”
The teammates started joking around as they lay down one by one.
While examining them, Zhong Gaoyi casually asked, “Captain Lei seems to care a lot about Boss Su?”
Before Lei Xing could reply, his teammates eagerly chimed in:
“Oh, absolutely! We were late getting back this time because the boss insisted on taking a shortcut to see Boss Su sooner. But unlucky us, we ran into a horde of zombies, which ended up delaying us instead.”
“And let me tell you, the moment our boss gets a call from Boss Su, the grin on his face—priceless!”
Hearing this, Zhong Gaoyi suddenly felt bad for a certain someone.
At least Lei Xing often got calls from Boss Su.
But as for Boss Gu, he was always the one calling first—he never got a call from her.
This recent territory battle was another example. Lei Xing came out unscathed, and Boss Su was so concerned that she sent a whole team to get them checked before she could relax.
Gu Mingchi, on the other hand, had half his shoulder bitten off. When it was first treated, his bones were exposed, and just stopping the bleeding had been a struggle. Even if he could regenerate, he’d still need half a month in bed to recover.
Zhong Gaoyi frowned at the thought.
With Gu Mingchi’s personality, even if he were paralyzed, he wouldn’t let anyone take care of him or show the slightest weakness in front of others.
By now, he had probably driven everyone away.
Zhong Gaoyi shook his head internally, pushed those thoughts aside, and finished examining the men.
“The ones with deep knife wounds should stay. The rest of you can go.”
The teammates grinned at Lei Xing. “Boss can finally go back and report in.”
“So, boss, when are you making your move? Boss Su is young, kind, and loaded—lots of people must be after her. If you don’t act fast, I might go for it myself!”
“Haha, count me in too!”
Lei Xing kicked each of them. “You guys must have a death wish. Do you really think she’d even look at you?”
His teammates dodged playfully. “Exactly! That’s why, with boss around, we don’t stand a chance.”
Zhong Gaoyi glanced at Lei Xing from head to toe, subconsciously comparing him to a certain someone.
Lei Xing noticed his gaze and asked bluntly, “Dr. Zhong, what do you think of my qualifications? Am I competitive?”
Zhong Gaoyi, biased toward Gu Mingchi, hesitated to respond.
Lei Xing instantly frowned. “If you have something to say, just say it.”
Zhong Gaoyi quickly answered, “Captain Lei, it doesn’t matter what others think. What matters is whether Boss Su likes you.”
Lei Xing fell into deep thought before nodding. “You’re right. I’ll go ask Boss Su myself.”
Zhong Gaoyi’s eyebrow twitched. Straight to the point, huh?!
And sure enough, Lei Xing went straight to ask.
At the time, Su Tao was discussing with Fang Zhi what supplies they needed for their trip to the old station in the morning. When she saw Lei Xing at the door, she thought he had something important to say about the mission.
She sat up attentively—only to hear him ask:
“What kind of person does Boss Su like?”
Su Tao froze, her mind still on the old station, and didn’t react at first.
Lei Xing pressed on: “Someone strong? Loyal? Handsome?”
He wanted to list more examples but struggled to come up with more of his own strengths.
Su Tao frowned. “Are you drunk? Why are you asking this all of a sudden? I like a lot of people—Fang Zhi, Jiang Yu, Wanwan, Rong Rong, Zheng Xing… I like all my friends. If you want me to name just one, I really can’t.”
Hearing his name mentioned first, Lin Fangzhi was so pleased that he immediately opened a bag of dried fish to reward the stray cat, White Sesame.
Lei Xing asked, “Why didn’t I hear my name?”
Su Tao snapped out of it and quickly corrected, “Of course, you’re included.”
“Say it again.”
“Fine, fine. Lei Xing, Fang Zhi, Jiang Yu, Wanwan, Rong Rong, Zheng Xing, plus Old Mei, Grandma Cen… I like all of them.”
Lei Xing wasn’t satisfied—too many names.
Lin Fangzhi’s satisfaction quickly turned into disappointment.
Su Tao’s patience ran out. “You’re so hard to please. If there’s nothing else, go away. I have things to prepare.”
Lei Xing had more questions but had no choice but to drop it.
“Alright, then rest early. Be at the gate by ten. Don’t bring too much; we’ll be back in a day or two.”
The next morning at six, Su Tao had Liang Ce tie up Lian Sha and bring her out.
Qi Yunlan suggested, “That’s too much trouble. Let Xiong Tai do it. His ability, ‘Cage,’ is perfect for capturing people. Plus, he’ll be extra careful.”
Sure enough, when Xiong Tai got the job, his face turned pale, but he had no choice. He wrapped Lian Sha up like a silkworm cocoon, sealing even her mouth so she couldn’t hum a tune.
Su Tao smirked. “You better keep an eye on her. If she escapes, with her vengeful nature, she’ll come after you first. You wouldn’t want to experience being controlled again, would you?”
Xiong Tai nodded frantically. From the moment they left Panliu Mountain to the outskirts of the old station, he barely blinked, staying on high alert.
Lei Xing sneered at his cowardice. “Are you even a man? Scared of a woman like this?”
Xiong Tai swallowed nervously and muttered, “Men can be scared too… what kind of logic is that?”
Lei Xing knocked him on the head. “Embarrassing.”
Xiong Tai clutched his head, not daring to say another word.
Su Tao tossed a communicator to Lian Sha.
“Don’t forget our deal. Call Tan Yong now and make up an excuse to lure him here. If you try anything, Liang Ce will shoot you. You know he’s hard of hearing—your tricks won’t work on him.”
“Understand? Nod if you do.”
Lian Sha let out a muffled “mm-hmm” and nodded.
Su Tao dialed Tan Yong’s number on her device and then told Xiong Tai, “Unseal only her mouth.”
Xiong Tai stuffed his ears with paper before loosening the restraints.
The call connected.
“Sasha? What’s wrong? Are you okay? Did you fail and feel too guilty to face me? It’s alright. As long as you’re safe, we can try again. Sasha?”
Su Tao gave Lian Sha a warning look.
Lian Sha gritted her teeth and said, “Brother Yong, I’m fine. I did fail, and I felt ashamed, so I hid for a while. But I’ve thought it through—running isn’t a solution. If you forgive me, I… I’ll come back, and we’ll figure out another plan. Okay?”
“Of course! Whatever you say. Where are you? I’ll come get you. Don’t hide from me again.”
Lian Sha gave him the location.
Su Tao immediately hung up.
Xiong Tai resealed Lian Sha’s mouth in a flash, then let out a huge breath like he had just survived a disaster.
