Chapter 85: Was the Fake Heiress Amazing Yesterday?
He immediately quickened his pace and headed home.
The moment he stepped into the living room, he froze. Xu Bo, Madam Xu, and Xu Nianquan were all sitting on the sofa. When they saw him, they turned their heads in unison and stared at him.
Xu Nianshen: “…”
It seemed he was a step too late.
He resignedly walked over and sat across from them, pouring himself a glass of water to calm his nerves.
“Ask your questions.”
Madam Xu: “When did you two get together?”
Xu Bo: “Did Jiujiu agree to be your girlfriend?”
Xu Nian: “Why didn’t you tell us right away?”
Xu Nianshen: “…”
Could they ask one question at a time?
He answered them one by one: “We got together a while ago, around May 28.”
“She agreed.”
“I just forgot to tell you at the time.”
The three of them exchanged glances.
Xu Nian checked the date. “Today’s June 20, so that’s roughly a month. During this month, you didn’t think to tell us once?”
“…I really just forgot, it wasn’t on purpose.”
Xu Nian could tell his younger brother was sincere; there was no trace of lying on his face, so he forgave him.
“Alright, I forgive you.”
Xu Nianshen took a sip of water. “Thanks, bro.”
Madam Xu glanced at him: “Then find a time to bring Jiujiu home. We want to ask her ourselves.”
“Mom…”
Madam Xu gave him a stern look, and Xu Nianshen reluctantly agreed.
Xu Teacher: [Student, I’m sorry.]
Lin Student: [??? What happened?]
Xu Teacher: [I forgot to tell my parents about us, and now they know.]
Lin Yuejiu immediately understood his meaning: [So uncle and aunt want to ask me in person?]
Xu Teacher: [Yes.]
Lin Student : [Okay, no problem. When?]
Xu Teacher : [Come with me after school tomorrow.]
Lin Student : [Alright.]
Lin Student : [Don’t worry, Teacher. I’m here.]
Xu Nianshen’s dark eyes stayed fixed on those words “I’m here,” a smile playing at his lips.
The next day, news of Lin Yuejiu and Xu Nianshen winning the competition again spread throughout the school. On an online forum, someone joked: “Was the fake heiress amazing yesterday?” The reply: “Yes, the fake heiress was amazing again yesterday.”
The post quickly got pinned, and many people responded. Some said there was no need to bring this up again since it had been so long, while others said it was just a harmless joke.
Lin Yuejiu saw the post and registered an account on the forum to reply: [It’s okay, I don’t mind.]
Immediately, someone commented: [See? She doesn’t mind. That’s true generosity.]
Chen Qianxi said to her, “Jiujiu, you really are easygoing.”
Lin Yuejiu smiled: “It’s fine. It’s been so long, and I don’t care about it anymore. Why block others from talking about it?”
Chen Qianxi rubbed her chin and nodded: “You have a point.”
In the back of the classroom, Lin Rumeng glanced at her chatting with Chen Qianxi. Lan Qingqing, next to her, sneered: “She’s really not that impressive. She just won a competition. Rumeng, don’t mind her; you’ll surpass her soon enough.”
“Mm.” Lin Rumeng hummed softly. She was no longer anxious about the violin—her focus now was on catching up in academics. She lowered her head and went back to her exercises.
After school, Lin Yuejiu went with Xu Nianshen to the Xu household. As they arrived at the front gate, Madam Xu was already waiting. Seeing the two of them, she immediately stepped forward, warmly took Lin Yuejiu’s hand, and guided her inside, without even glancing at her own son.
Lin Yuejiu glanced back at him. Xu Nianshen’s face was full of helplessness, but he seemed used to it. She turned back and smiled lightly.
Once inside, Xu Father and Xu Bo were there. Seeing her, they immediately stood up, smiling warmly: “Jiujiu, you’re here! Thirsty? Want some water?”
Though he asked, the water had already been placed in front of her.
Lin Yuejiu took it and thanked them. They replied almost in unison, “Ah, it’s family—no need to say thanks.”
She couldn’t help but feel slightly helpless.
Madam Xu guided her to sit in the middle of the sofa, then sat beside her, holding her other hand. “Jiujiu, Auntie wants to ask you a few questions. Will you answer honestly?”
“Of course, Auntie, go ahead.” Lin Yuejiu obediently nodded.
“Auntie wants to ask—are you really together?”
Lin Yuejiu looked up at Xu Nianshen sitting across from her and nodded. “Yes, Auntie, we are. We just haven’t planned to make it public yet.”
“When do you plan to go public?”
Xu Nianshen quickly answered, “We’re still students. If it’s public, the teachers might worry about our grades and may not allow us to date.”
Madam Xu nodded. “That makes sense, Auntie was careless.”
“Now Auntie wants to ask—did he confess first?”
“Yes, Auntie.”
“What did he say when he confessed? How did he confess?”
Xu Nianshen pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. Lin Yuejiu smiled. “Auntie, that’s a bit private. Please forgive me for not telling you.”
“I see…” Madam Xu continued, “Then, Jiujiu, are you sure you want to be his girlfriend? I have to tell you, he has a lot of flaws.”
Finally, Xu Nianshen couldn’t help but shout, “Mom, what are you doing?”
Madam Xu gave him a sharp look. “Doing what? Am I not allowed to mention his flaws?”
“Usually, people give advice to stay together, not break up. How can you do this? It’s not easy for your son to find a girlfriend, and you’re here interfering—is this your way of trying to split us up?”
Madam Xu disapproved, glaring at him again. “What nonsense! I’m just concerned for Jiujiu. She’s a girl, and she’s on her own now. Of course I need to advise her to think carefully.”
Lin Yuejiu smiled, feeling enveloped by warmth, her heart cozy.
“Yes, please continue giving advice.”
She held Madam Xu’s hand again. “Auntie, I’ve already agreed to be with him myself.”
“Really? You’re not lying to Auntie?”
“It’s true.”
Seeing her serious expression, Madam Xu let it go and went to prepare dinner.
Afterwards, Xu Bo tried to gossip a bit, but Xu Nianshen blocked him each time. Xu Bo, annoyed, said, “What’s wrong with talking to your girlfriend a little? I didn’t do anything.”
Xu Nianshen raised an eyebrow. “I’m not forbidding you, but we need to do our homework.”
Xu Bo glanced down. The exercise book was in Lin Yuejiu’s hands—they really were going to do homework—so he let them go.
Upstairs, in his room, Xu Nianshen exhaled as he closed the door, looking like a man who had just survived a battle. “Finally free.”
Lin Yuejiu sat in the chair, smiling at him. “So nervous?”
“Yes, it’s my first time bringing a girlfriend home.”
Lin Yuejiu teased him with a glance. “You’ve never brought anyone home before?”
Xu Nianshen walked over and held her hand, smiling. “It wasn’t a girlfriend before.”
Lin Yuejiu thought for a moment. “That’s true.” She lightly scratched his palm with her fingers.
Xu Nianshen raised an eyebrow, took the opportunity to lean down, and kissed her on the forehead.
“All right, enough. Let’s get to work on homework.” Lin Yuejiu laughed and released his hand.
