Chapter 7: Jiujiu Is So Sensible
Father Lin had always worried that he wouldn’t be able to communicate with his biological daughter, but now it seemed there was no problem at all.
On the way home, Lin Ru Meng had already livened up the atmosphere with her chatter, and Mother Lin felt very happy.
Lin Ru Meng was different from Lin Yuejiu. Lin Yuejiu was very sensible and obedient, never deliberately making jokes or sweet remarks; she simply answered whatever they asked. To Mother Lin, Yuejiu inspired pride and reassurance.
But Lin Ru Meng was different—her words were sweet, full of flattery and clever mischief, giving Mother Lin a kind of joy she never experienced with Yuejiu. Deep down, she even felt that this was how things should be.
When they got home, the family still didn’t know about the “real and fake daughter” situation. Seeing them bring back a little girl, everyone was momentarily stunned.
The butler was also at a loss, “This is…?”
Father Lin paused for a moment before speaking slowly, “This is the young miss.”
The butler: “??? But isn’t the young miss at school?”
Father Lin: “That’s the eldest young miss. This is the younger young miss.”
Although the butler hadn’t been in the Lin household as long as the old house’s steward, he was a quick thinker and instantly understood, “So this is the younger miss. Please, come in.”
Lin Ru Meng smiled sweetly. “Hello, Uncle Butler.”
The butler was momentarily taken aback, then responded politely.
This younger miss was completely different from the eldest young miss.
Father Lin and Mother Lin led her inside. Lin Ru Meng was stunned by the sight before her—the grand, European-style hall was so big that it alone could rival seven of her old homes.
Seeing her astonishment, both parents felt guilty. It was their fault that their own child had not enjoyed the life she was meant to have.
Mother Lin affectionately patted her head, “Meng Meng, don’t be afraid. From now on, this will be your home.”
Lin Ru Meng looked at her. “From now on, this will be my home?”
Father Lin nodded. “Yes, this is your home.”
Lin Ru Meng beamed. “Thank you, Dad. Thank you, Mom.” She turned around. “And thank you, Brother!”
Lin Yimo gave a small smile, “Silly girl, why thank us? This is your home.”
“Mhm, mhm!”
“Come, let’s go upstairs. You can pick any room you like—stay wherever you want.”
“I can choose for myself?” Lin Ru Meng was pleasantly surprised.
“Of course you can.”
Her steps grew lighter and more excited.
Father Lin and Mother Lin exchanged a glance and smiled.
When Lin Ru Meng went upstairs, she opened one door after another. Then, stopping at one particular room, she froze, her eyes locked on it.
The three followed behind her, “What’s wrong? Meng Meng, have you found a room you like?”
Lin Ru Meng’s eyes sparkled as she pointed. “I want this room. It’s so beautiful.”
The three of them paused—it was Lin Yuejiu’s room.
Mother Lin hesitated. “Meng Meng, this is your sister’s room. She’s staying at school right now for her studies. How about we choose another one?”
Lin Ru Meng bit her lip, looking pitiful. “But I really want this one. Before, I only had a tiny room to myself, and my parents never let me decorate it… they said there was no money…”
Mother Lin’s heart wavered. This was Jiujiu’s room—she had lived in it for more than ten years, and surely she would be reluctant to give it up. But Meng Meng was her own flesh and blood, the daughter she carried for ten months. It had already been a great mistake that she wasn’t by her side before… If she refused her now…
Clenching her teeth, Mother Lin made up her mind, “Alright. You can stay in your sister’s room. When she comes back, I’ll explain it to her.”
Lin Ru Meng happily jumped up and kissed Mother Lin. “Mom, you’re the best!”
Mother Lin smiled.
In her heart, she thought—Jiujiu is so sensible, she definitely won’t blame me.
Lin Yimo was about to say something, but when he saw how happy she was, he closed his mouth again.
“Mom, can I go inside and take a look now?”
“Of course, this is your room now.”
Lin Ru Meng walked in. She saw so many dolls and such a big bed. The whole room was pink. She opened the wardrobe, and inside were beautiful dresses of brands she didn’t recognize.
“Mom, are these dresses my sister’s?”
“We bought them for your sister, but she never wore them. If you like them, you can take them and wear them.”
Lin Ru Meng smiled happily. “Okay!”
Lin Mother checked the time. “Meng Meng, it’s getting late. Wash up early and get to bed. I’ll introduce you to the rest tomorrow.”
“Okay, Mom.”
Father Lin and Mother Lin went downstairs.
The butler came over to Lin Yimo. “Young Master, as you instructed, here is the new phone and computer for the second young lady.”
Hearing his voice, Lin Ru Meng walked over. “Brother? What’s this?”
Lin Yimo smiled. “It looks like you’ve been using your phone for a long time. This is a new phone and computer I got for you.”
“Wow? Really? I’ve never used a computer before! Thank you, Brother!”
“As long as you like it. Go ahead and take it.”
“Okay, thank you, Brother!”
After Lin Yimo left, Lin Ru Meng looked carefully around the room, the corners of her lips curling into a smug smile.
Such a big room, all for herself.
She had never enjoyed such treatment before. Her so-called sister really was lucky. If she hadn’t been abducted by traffickers back then, it would never have been her sister enjoying all this.
Oh well — either way, everything here was hers now.
The next morning, Mother Lin came to wake her for breakfast.
Lin Ru Meng had slept especially well — the bed was soft and comfortable.
“Meng Meng, time to get up.”
“Okay, Mom.”
Lin Ru Meng got up, washed, and went downstairs. When she saw the breakfast table piled with so much food, she was surprised.
“Mom, why is there so much breakfast? Can we even finish it?”
Mother Lin patted her head and smiled. “Don’t worry. If we can’t finish it, that’s fine. I was afraid you might not be used to the food here, so I specially prepared a lot of options.”
“Ah? Really?” Lin Ru Meng’s eyes lit up. “Thank you, Mom!”
“By the way, Mom, where’s Brother?”
“He’s at the company. He left early.”
“The company? Does Brother own his own company? That’s amazing!”
Mother Lin chuckled. “It’s not his own — it’s our Lin family’s company. I rarely go there now, so your brother is in charge.”
Lin Ru Meng nodded.
“Meng Meng, after breakfast, I’ll take you out for a walk and introduce you to some people.”
“Okay, Mom!”
Mother Lin took her to the mall and bought her many clothes, shoes, bags, and pieces of jewelry. They returned home loaded with bags.
Lin Ru Meng smiled from ear to ear the whole time.
After having the bodyguards bring everything home, Mother Lin called Father Lin, and the three of them went to an amusement park and an aquarium. They had a great time and took lots of photos.
Before long, it was evening. That night, Old Master Lin summoned all four of them to the old family estate and had the butler also call for Lin Yuejiu to come.
