Doomsday: Scavenging in a Survival Game – CH19

Opening the Treasure Chest, Emerald Bees

Chapter 19: Opening the Treasure Chest, Emerald Bees

Joy Turns to Sorrow!

Xiang Qiuyan was dumbfounded. Seriously?

She had been assigned another new task — and its difficulty had skyrocketed!

Xiang Qiuyan had fallen into a misunderstanding. She had assumed that the task of protecting the Jade Dew Fruit Tree meant she had to completely eliminate all monsters that entered the farm.

However, in reality, her only requirement was to ensure the Jade Dew Fruit Tree remained unharmed.

In other words, as long as she drove away any creatures threatening the tree, the mission would be complete.

But she misunderstood it as needing to directly kill the giant python coiled around the tree.

Now look what happened — she thought she could get through the day safely by handing the task to Su Ning, but unexpectedly, the system had given her an even harder kill mission.

“No! I don’t want this task! I take it back!” Xiang Qiuyan screamed in panic, deeply regretting it now. But the system wasn’t going to indulge her tantrum — there was no room for regret.

Su Ning, of course, had not forgotten the gloating look in Xiang Qiuyan’s eyes when she took over the Jade Dew Fruit Tree task.

As for Xiang Qiuyan’s new task, Su Ning could only wish her luck!

Su Ning, gripping her Blackrock Bow, took aim at the python coiled around the Jade Dew Fruit Tree and fired without hesitation.

The sound of the arrow slicing through the air was sharp and piercing — it hit the snake straight in the eye.

“Hiss—!” a shrill cry rang out. The previously calm python suddenly writhed, its uninjured eye filled with rage and killing intent, locking onto Su Ning.

Su Ning tensed up — but she knew now wasn’t the time for fear. She had to act quickly, or she’d become the python’s next meal.

With her skill of Perfect Aim, Su Ning drew her bow again. One arrow after another shot out like lightning toward the snake.

This time, the arrow pierced the python’s other eye.

Blinded, the snake thrashed about, utterly disoriented and unable to regain its bearings.

At this point, the python was like a fish on a chopping block — Su Ning’s for the taking.

Su Ning seized the moment and kept firing arrows, each one buried deep into the snake’s body.

Though the snake tried to resist, it couldn’t launch any effective counterattacks without its sight.

Finally, after a fierce battle, the python collapsed to the ground, unmoving.

A familiar system notification rang in Su Ning’s ears:

[Ding! Task complete!]
[Congratulations, you’ve earned 10 copper coins and 100 profession XP!]

Meanwhile, Xiang Qiuyan’s mission failed — because her task target had been killed by Su Ning.

“No way! How could I fail?” she cried out in disbelief.

She turned to Su Ning, face full of resentment. “It’s all because of you! You made me fail my task! You ruined it!”

Su Ning replied coldly, “You didn’t stop me when I offered to take over the task. And now you want to blame me? The choice was yours. I simply completed my own mission.” With that, she turned and walked away.

Xiang Qiuyan tried to chase after her, but was suddenly restrained by a staff member from the Moko tribe.

The Moko administrator announced coldly, “Task failed. A useless breeder shall become food for the Death Worms.”

Xiang Qiuyan was terrified and begged for mercy. “No! Please give me another chance! I promise I can complete the mission! Please don’t feed me to the Death Worms!”

But no matter how much she pleaded, the administrator remained unmoved.

Su Ning, having completed her task, left immediately.

Back at her own farm, she found a few giant bees hovering above the garden. She raised her Blackrock Bow and swiftly shot down the intruding bees.

She didn’t let the bee corpses go to waste either — she tossed them to the Meaty Chickens, who eagerly devoured the bees.

Two days passed. Su Ning was immersed in farming and raising her Meaty Chickens.

Although her breeder level hadn’t increased, her chicken-raising skills had definitely improved.

On the fifth day of the breeding farm instance, an administrator came to inspect her progress and saw that Su Ning had accumulated enough XP.

The admin said, “Breeder Su Ning, your experience meets the requirements for a level-up. Do you wish to upgrade your breeder level?”

Su Ning’s eyes lit up with joy. Of course! Who wouldn’t want to level up?

Upgrading meant access to a new environment — and the opportunity to enter the admin’s office and open a treasure chest.

There was no way she’d miss this!

Still, Su Ning was a little concerned. After all, she’d wasted two days leveling up. “I’m not sure whether Fu Qingge leveled up before me. What if he already took the treasure chest?”

Thinking of Fu Qingge’s aloof demeanor, Su Ning was a bit intimidated. His calmness in the instance meant he was no one to underestimate.

Following the administrator, Su Ning entered the office. The moment she stepped inside, she spotted a glimmering golden treasure chest.

Her heart leapt. Great! The treasure chest hasn’t been opened!

That meant Su Ning was the first player in this instance to level up.

Overjoyed, she waited for a moment when the administrator wasn’t paying attention and rushed to open the chest.

A pleasant chime sounded:

[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained: Bug Refining Jar!]
[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained: Breeder Title!]
[Ding! Congratulations, player has obtained: Enhancement Pill!]

Only three items came out of the chest, but each one felt immensely valuable to Su Ning.

She used her Scavenger’s Eye to examine the first item:

[Bug Refining Jar]: A special tool. Any insect placed inside will be refined and come under the full control of the jar’s owner.

Su Ning’s eyes sparkled. In a sense, this Bug Refining Jar was a weapon. With it, any insect she refined could be controlled at will.

Just as she was about to inspect the other two items, the administrator handed her a new profession card.

“This is the Level-2 Breeder Card. With it, you may now work in advanced zones.”

He also presented her with a chart showing available breeding options.

Su Ning quickly noticed three unfamiliar creatures.

The admin said, “These are creatures in the advanced zones that currently lack breeders. Choose one, and it’ll be your responsibility going forward.”

Su Ning looked at the three options.

One resembled a pig — extremely fat — but unlike the pigs on Earth, this one emitted steam, as if it might explode at any moment.

“Steaming Pig? What kind of pig is this?” Su Ning asked curiously. “The name sounds interesting.”

The admin smiled. “The Steaming Pig has tender, delicious meat. But raising it requires extremely high temperatures. Not everyone can handle the heat.”

Su Ning frowned. “That kind of temperature? No way.” She immediately ruled it out.

She looked at the other two options.

Surprisingly, both were insects, one of which was the Death Worm, which she was already familiar with.

The admin explained, “Death Worms are highly nutritious and many farm creatures feed on them. So we’ve designated an area just to raise them. But they’re dangerous. If you’re not careful, you’ll become their food.”

Su Ning thought about it and decided they were too risky. She eliminated them too.

Finally, her eyes settled on the third option.

“Emerald Bees?” Su Ning asked.

The admin nodded. “Yes. Emerald Bees are harmless unless provoked or if you try to steal their honey. But they have a paralyzing venom that’s extremely dangerous. On the other hand, the honey they produce is a rare spiritual item that restores mental energy — very precious.”
