Chapter 188: Love? Deceit? Exposure!
The rapid growth of the Virus Alien was like a wild horse running loose—completely beyond Su Ning’s expectations.
But it also made her realize something important:
She now possessed another powerful area-of-effect combat ability.
Naturally, Su Ning decided to fully invest in enhancing these two skills.
Everything was progressing smoothly, except… the appearance of the monsters created by these skills was vastly different from Su Ning’s own aesthetic preferences.
As a girl, Su Ning naturally preferred creatures that were majestic yet adorable, like her beloved Youyou.
She glanced at the Virus Alien—its horrifying form, razor-sharp teeth, and claws oozed a blood-soaked, violent kind of beauty that was the exact opposite of cute.
“Ugh… whatever. As long as it can fight for me, who cares what it looks like.”
Su Ning didn’t treat the Virus Alien with the same affection she gave to Youyou and the others. She didn’t even bother giving them names. She simply let it roam free inside the Corpse Hell dungeon.
Later, she had No.1 bring her over a hundred zombies.
Su Ning implanted parasitic seeds into each of these zombies. Within their bodies, grotesque Virus Aliens began gestating.
Their bellies began to swell unnaturally fast.
Even so, the parasitic presence inside them made the zombies extremely hungry.
To prevent them from turning on each other, Su Ning reluctantly fed them Zombifruit to keep them pacified.
Before long, beside the base she’d built within the Corpse Hell dungeon, a legion of Virus Aliens had assembled.
“It’s real now… A monster army!”
Su Ning marveled at her creation. Now, if she ever got caught in a large-scale battle, she wouldn’t be afraid anymore.
With a single wave of her hand, she could summon this fearsome force.
Let’s see who’d still dare mess with her.
After wrapping things up, Su Ning returned to her planting space, planning to rest for a bit in her sleep pod and unwind her tense nerves.
She fell into a peaceful slumber.
Inside the dimension, all was calm and quiet.
But outside… things were far from tranquil.
Alisa stared in shock at the man who appeared once again in front of her: Clinton.
“Clinton… why are you back? Did the medicine not work?”
She sounded concerned, puzzled.
Clinton responded with a smile as warm as spring sunshine.
The arrival of the Church meant that everything he’d done was finally coming into the light.
If he could capture a genuine witch, surely the God of Light would reward him generously with new powers.
That thought made Clinton’s smile grow even brighter as he looked at Alisa.
Fall in love with Alisa?
Perhaps, once upon a time, he had briefly entertained such foolish thoughts.
But when he discovered Alisa’s true identity—that she was a witch—he shattered that fantasy without hesitation.
He played the part of a clueless admirer, continuing their fake romance only to lull Alisa into lowering her guard.
His goal?
To find out whether Alisa had other witch companions.
If he could capture them all in one sweep, his reward would be all the greater.
That ordinary-looking man he’d met at Alisa’s home earlier today had raised a few doubts in his heart, but that didn’t matter.
With Lord Oleni’s involvement, no witch could escape Hurricane City.
And today—Clinton would reap what he’d sown.
Still smiling, he said:
“There’s a huge event going on outside. All the residents are gathering. I came to invite you to take a look.”
Alisa’s expression turned oddly complicated.
Of course she knew what was happening outside—especially that pale golden transparent barrier. It confirmed her worst fears.
If she got too close to it, her hidden identity as a witch would surely be exposed.
Everyone would turn against her.
And now, standing before her was this man—Clinton.
She didn’t know how to face him.
She was too scared to take the risk. But… she really liked Clinton.
His smile was like a blooming flower, so warm and charming.
He had always cared for her—checking on her, making sure she was warm, asking about her health every day.
Wasn’t it obvious? Clinton cared for her too.
And now, for the first time, he was inviting her to go out.
Should she accept?
Her mind raced to weigh the risks.
“As long as I don’t go near the barrier, my identity won’t be discovered.
Clinton’s invitation is rare. I must go!”
And just like that, Alisa fell completely into the web of love and deception Clinton had carefully woven.
At the gates of Hurricane City, a crowd had already gathered.
Clinton held Alisa’s hand as they walked up.
Alisa blushed deeply, glancing shyly at their intertwined fingers.
Then a sudden voice rang out:
“Look! It’s safe! That barrier really does detect who’s a witch?”
That voice snapped Alisa back to reality.
She quickly pulled her hand away.
She couldn’t go near the barrier—she could feel the witch energy surging inside her.
If she got too close, she’d be exposed instantly.
“What’s wrong?” Clinton asked, a flash of cold amusement flickering in his eyes.
Alisa didn’t notice it. She was too busy trying to think of an excuse.
“Nothing. It’s just… there are too many people up front. I don’t like crowds.”
Clinton smiled warmly again.
“Still a little shy, huh? Don’t worry—my friend saved us a good spot.”
Clinton was actually a member of the Church, and his role as a gate guard was just a cover that gave him access and influence.
Before long, he brought Alisa to the very front of the crowd.
“Captain Clinton! You’re here!” the other guards greeted him immediately.
Clinton returned their greetings and casually introduced Alisa.
The young guards grinned and shouted:
“Hello, Sister-in-law!”
Alisa’s face turned bright red, her mind going completely blank.
Up ahead, people were taking turns walking through the energy barrier to prove they weren’t witches.
“Haha! See? My daughter’s not a witch! I told you, she just talks in her sleep! That old hag almost got her killed!”
A middle-aged man hugged a young girl, who clung to him nervously as everyone stared at her.
“It’s my turn! I wanna test my daughter-in-law. Ever since she married into our family, my son only listens to her. Not me! If she’s a witch, I’ll never let her off!”
An old lady dragged a curvy woman toward the barrier.
The woman remained calm but gave her husband a look that clearly said:
“You’re dead. Don’t even think about stepping into my room tonight.”
The man scratched his head awkwardly. He hadn’t been able to stop his nosy mother.
Tests like this were happening all over.
Alisa desperately wanted to stay away from the barrier.
But Clinton had other plans—he would not let her escape so easily.
Just as the crowd naturally opened a gap while people were leaving the protective field…
Clinton, now closest to the front gate, suddenly shoved Alisa forward with a strong push.
Alisa was flung straight toward the barrier.
Her mind went completely blank, unable to process what was happening.
