Chapter 70: Showing Spirit
When Gu Qinghuan got into the Jiang family’s car, she immediately noticed that Jiang Chuchu wasn’t in a good state.
After all, last night Jiang Chuchu had been excitedly talking about how they would act at Yu Xin’s house today, but now she had no energy, and even her smile when greeting Gu Qinghuan seemed forced. This was definitely unusual.
Gu Qinghuan sat next to Jiang Chuchu and pointed to her own neck. “Look!”
Jiang Chuchu glanced and immediately recognized the necklace she had given Gu Qinghuan before.
Jiang Chuchu, who had been gloomy because of the dream, instantly smiled. “You’re still wearing this?”
“Yes!” Gu Qinghuan smiled back. “Last time, this was enough to leave those people speechless. Isn’t it fun to relive that memory?”
Jiang Chuchu grabbed Gu Qinghuan’s hands, looked her over, and commented, “Doesn’t match your outfit.”
Gu Qinghuan sighed dramatically. “Miss, in this season, my wardrobe is full of crewneck sweatshirts. I’ve tried my best to find a V-neck that shows my neck.”
Crewnecks were so comfortable, convenient, and warm — and no need to worry about a draft!
Jiang Chuchu scrutinized her for a moment and reluctantly nodded. “Alright, fine this time. Next time we go shopping, I’ll pick a few other clothes for you.”
The two chatted along the way, and Jiang Chuchu’s mood improved considerably. She realized that Gu Qinghuan was intentionally diverting her attention.
After all, the dream was just a dream! Jiang Chuchu completely pushed it out of her mind.
Soon, they arrived at the Yu family’s community. As Gu Qinghuan and Jiang Chuchu got out of the car, Yu Xin ran out to meet them.
For a moment, Gu Qinghuan felt a bit relieved. Last time she had come to the Yu house, Yu Xin had run to her after getting out of the car too.
Only this time, Yu Xin’s mindset was completely different.
“Qinghuan, Chuchu!” Yu Xin’s eyes lit up as she ran to hug them. “Welcome to my home!”
Thanks to Xia He’s bombardment, Yu Xin was now confident enough to say “my home” without hesitation.
Currently, the Yu family head was still Yu Wenli, but in the future, it might not be Yu Jinxin.
Gu Qinghuan hugged her back. “I’m here!”
Jiang Chuchu felt a little awkward but couldn’t refuse Yu Xin’s eager expression, so she hugged her properly as well.
Yu Xin noticed Jiang Chuchu’s stiffness and quickly released her, taking both of them by the hand. “Come inside quickly — looks like it might rain.”
The Jiang family driver took the car away. When it was time for Jiang Chuchu to go home, they would come back for her.
By calculation, this was the first time Gu Qinghuan had entered the Yu family’s house.
She didn’t know much about interior design, but judging by general impressions, she guessed the Yu family’s layout and décor had a European style.
In terms of house size, the Jiang residence was definitely larger. But for Gu Qinghuan, everything was bigger than her own home, so she didn’t consciously compare the Yu house with the Jiang house.
Last time she had met Yu Xin’s mother Cui Wanning, her brother Yu Jinxin, and Yu Yuan. This time she saw another middle-aged man — Yu Xin’s father, Yu Wenli.
To be fair, Yu Wenli wasn’t unattractive. He had his son Yu Jinxin at twenty-three, his daughter Yu Xin at twenty-nine, and was now around forty.
At this age, as long as a man is reasonably tall, not overweight, no beer belly, no shiny bald head, and dresses well, he easily outshines most peers.
Yu Wenli met all these criteria, and being in a high position for years, he naturally carried himself with a certain presence.
Even without knowing his attitude toward Yu Xin, one could easily say he looked like an excellent entrepreneur who could appear in a business magazine.
Before the three of them entered, Yu Wenli was sitting on the sofa, browsing something on his phone. Seeing them come in, he remained seated, but his gaze immediately shifted, and his expression was gentle. “Xin… Yu Xin, are these your friends?”
Gu Qinghuan noticed his hesitant pronunciation — he probably wanted to call her “Xinxin” as a nickname to show closeness, but couldn’t bring himself to say it.
She exchanged a glance with Jiang Chuchu. Later, Jiang Chuchu seemed to notice too, curling her lips slightly, perhaps in a playful smirk.
Gu Qinghuan politely smiled at Yu Wenli. “Hello, uncle. I’m Gu Qinghuan.”
Jiang Chuchu followed promptly. “I’m Jiang Chuchu. Hello.”
Whether “uncle” or “sir,” Jiang Chuchu didn’t want to say it.
Yu Wenli didn’t notice this. In his mind, it was normal for the Jiang heiress to look down on others.
Yu Xin nodded. “I’ll take my friends to my room now.”
“Go ahead,” Yu Wenli waved. “If you need anything, just tell Old Zhao.”
Yu Xin led Gu Qinghuan and Jiang Chuchu upstairs.
As soon as the room door opened, Gu Qinghuan immediately spotted Sesame curled up on the lounge chair and tiptoed over.
Jiang Chuchu began surveying the room. The space was… not bad; the layout seemed adjusted to Xin Bao’s preferences, open enough for Sesame to move around.
Yu Xin closed the door and exhaled. “I thought he’d follow Chuchu around asking questions.”
“Nope,” Gu Qinghuan didn’t touch Sesame, only took out her phone to take pictures without looking back. “See? He didn’t even stand up — probably doesn’t want to act overly eager.”
Hearing a voice other than Yu Xin’s, Sesame suddenly lifted its head, arched its back, and perked its ears, alertly watching her.
But Gu Qinghuan held out her hand palm-up, making soft kissing motions. Sesame sniffed cautiously, then settled back on the lounge chair, watching her.
Gu Qinghuan didn’t force contact and withdrew her hand. “I think I was the one who picked him up initially, but it’s still strange.”
“Want to pet him?” Yu Xin stepped over and picked up Sesame.
Sesame had grown quite a bit, now about two kilograms. Being held by Yu Xin, he remained still, only his eyes showing a blank, confused expression.
Sesame: I don’t know what mom wants to do, but she must have her reasons.
Gu Qinghuan tentatively reached out and gently patted Sesame on the head.
This time, Sesame didn’t move away, squinted his eyes, and flicked his ears a few times.
“So well-behaved,” Jiang Chuchu came over. She was more direct than Gu Qinghuan and immediately scratched under Sesame’s chin.
This time, Sesame resisted a little, twisted his neck, looked at Yu Xin for a moment, then lowered his head again: Got it — mom is showing off her child, the cat must try to live up to it!
