Cannon Fodder in the 1970s: With a Sign-In System – CH306

A Blessing in Disguise

Chapter 306: A Blessing in Disguise

Ning Xiyue was a little surprised when she heard the long-awaited check-in prompt—it had been quite some time since she last heard it, and she wasn’t sure what rewards this check-in would bring.

“Check-in.”

“Check-in successful! You have received a large truck, a vehicle maintenance book, and one driving learning opportunity each for trucks and cars. The items have been placed in the system backpack, and the learning opportunities can be redeemed at any time.”

Ning Xiyue was stunned as the system finished speaking.

These check-in rewards were completely unrelated to the task she had just triggered. And there were so many!

“System, these check-in rewards are becoming more and more whimsical. But I like it—this one is way too generous. Thank you, System Daddy!”

Ning Xiyue’s face lit up with a huge smile. What kind of godly system was this? So rich and giving!

She patted the little turtle on the desk, utterly charmed by it.

The system glanced at its overflowing storage. It had recently collected too many miscellaneous items, taking up too much space, so it needed to clear some out.

“Ding! Host, keep up the good work. Elevate your career further—more check-in rewards await you.”

“All right! I’ll work hard and claim more check-in rewards.”

Ning Xiyue’s money-minded nature was awakened. With more free time ahead, she resolved to study more, improve herself, develop her career, and collect better check-in items.

She glanced at the tall truck in her system backpack, eyes wide. Driving such a truck would be incredibly stylish.

Could this be the same large truck from the grand prize wheel?

She hadn’t won it back then, but now she had it through check-in. Ning Xiyue felt ecstatic—this would come in handy for future money-making ventures.

She took out the maintenance book from her cloth bag.

A thick, old book, heavier than a brick, appeared in her hands.

She couldn’t practice driving cars or trucks yet, but she could read.

Opening the book, she realized it wasn’t particularly interesting. The diagrams were difficult to understand. After flipping a few pages, Ning Xiyue decided to abandon deep study of the book.

“You have to be willing to give in order to gain.”

There was no need to force herself to study something she had no interest in—better to save the time for learning other knowledge.

This book was more suitable for her second brother, who was interested in mechanics. She would gift it to him for study.

With that decided, Ning Xiyue flipped through the book casually. Reading word by word? Impossible. Ten lines at a glance? Too slow. One page per second—that was the proper method.

Though she wasn’t studying it as rigorously as Chinese medicine, she still wanted to imprint the knowledge in her mind. One needed at least a basic understanding of driving—it might come in handy someday.

She absorbed each page like taking a snapshot, storing the information in her brain. Later, even if her brother forgot something, she could remind him, just like Wang Yuyan with her vast knowledge of martial arts.

Flipping page by page was taxing. After finishing the book, Ning Xiyue collapsed on the desk, her head about to explode. Wang Yuyan’s level of genius wasn’t easy to emulate.

She looked at the little turtle on the desk and weakly thought: “System, please get me that bottle of Yangzhi Ganlu—I have no strength or energy left.”

The turtle’s eyes were full of concern. It didn’t want its host to collapse from overexertion from reading a book. It quickly retrieved the Yangzhi Ganlu from her backpack.

“Drink quickly.”

Ning Xiyue shakily lifted the jade bottle of Yangzhi Ganlu, a precious bottle she had been saving for over half a year. She drank it all in one go to replenish herself.

Whether it was the effect of drinking too much or the brain-boosting properties, she felt much better afterward. Her headache was gone, her mind clearer, and she felt she could store several more books in her brain at once.

She checked her pulse—unusually strong—and excitedly asked:

“System, did I overdo it? Has my brain been developed?”

“Let me check.”

The turtle placed a paw on her hand. Its big eyes sparkled with amusement.

“You silly host, a blessing in disguise! Your mental power has become even stronger.”

The system carefully explained the principle:

“After overusing your mental energy and rapidly replenishing it, the pool of energy you had forcibly expanded was filled with new input. The pool can no longer shrink, so once you rest and stabilize, your brain capacity will be greater than before.”

“So powerful! This bottle of Yangzhi Ganlu wasn’t wasted, though I’ll need to stock up again.”

Ning Xiyue put the bottle away. Next time, she could share some with her family—without spiritual spring water, Yangzhi Ganlu was still good.

She opened the check-in interface, used all three check-in opportunities on the Big Willow Tree icon, and obtained three more drops of Yangzhi Ganlu, storing them in Bai Yu’s bottle. Only then was she satisfied.

Next, Ning Xiyue drank tea and rolled some medicine balls, then had the robot butler simulate a copy of Old Master Zhang’s winemaking notes using the 100% simulator she had checked in previously in the study.

Using it as a copier was convenient—she didn’t need to hand-copy anything, and it could perfectly reproduce the original, making it an excellent learning tool.

She flipped through the reproduced winemaking notes for relaxation, sipping tea, reviewing notes, and calming her mind.

Time flew, and soon it was dinner time.

Ning Xiyue felt as if she had returned to her old workdays—shouldering her bag, carrying her kettle, happily heading out, and waving to Li Xiuxiu, who was still studying.

“Xiuxiu, it’s time. Let’s go home for dinner. See you tomorrow. Make sure to close the doors and windows; it looks like it might rain tonight. Bye.”

“Ah, okay.”

Li Xiuxiu looked up, only catching a view of Ning Xiyue’s figure stepping out the door.

She was just out having a meal when — poof — she disappeared. When Ning Xiyue opened her eyes again, she had already transmigrated into the 1970s — and worse, she was now a minor cannon-fodder character in a “lucky mascot + everyone dotes on the heroine” era novel, a love-brained side character whose only purpose was to deliver resources and equipment to the female lead.Ning Xiyue declares: “No way! I refuse to be a love-brain.”She will tear apart scumbag men and b*tchy women with her bare hands. If someone takes what belongs to her — they’ll return it. If someone eats what’s hers — they’ll spit it back out.Did someone give away something that might become her future “golden finger” (cheat item)? She’ll snatch it back. If the cheat isn’t useful to her? She’ll smash it to pieces with a brick rather than let anyone else benefit from it.The scumbag man who harmed the original owner? She’ll kick him all the way to the desolate northwest. And the “white lotus” cousin who conspired with him to kill the original owner — and who is supposedly the female lead? She’d better prepare to face Ning Xiyue’s wrath.Later, Ning Xiyue obtained a golden finger of her own — a sign-in system where everything in the world could be signed in and acquired. With this system, she happily went to the countryside as a “sent-down youth,” supporting rural development. But once she arrived, she realized that the novel she had transmigrated into wasn’t so simple after all.The scheming cousin isn’t the real female lead? There’s someone else who is?Ning Xiyue says: “I don’t care who the female lead is. That white lotus cousin isn’t escaping — I’m still going to beat her up and torture her.”As for the real heroine — why not just sit back, munch melon seeds, watch the drama unfold, and focus on building her own career?Note: The male lead is mostly a background character and doesn’t appear much.
