Chapter 192: Danger
The system’s series of alert sounds caught Ning Xiyue completely off guard.
“Ah, what’s going on? Why does staying in a guesthouse lead to danger? And Big Brother was right again… damn Murphy’s Law!”
Screaming, Ning Xiyue quickly ran back to the study, retrieving the bulletproof vest and silenced pistol she had signed in with at the entrance of the underground lab in Daqi Mountain. She also grabbed the pistol she had taken from that big man.
She quickly switched bodies, put on the bulletproof vest, and stepped out of the space armed with two pistols and a brick.
With a springy leap from the bed, she ran to the door and knocked on the door of her second brother’s room.
System had stayed in Ning Xiyue’s room, leaving behind a small sub-avatar, the little mosquito.
Ning Qingyuan was washing his face. Opening the door, he saw Ning Xiyue’s tense expression and asked, puzzled: “Sister, what’s going on?”
Ning Xiyue bolted the door and slipped one of the pistols into Ning Qingyuan’s hand.
Ning Qingyuan furrowed his brow, gripping the unfamiliar object. Once he realized what it was, his expression changed drastically, and the washcloth covering his face fell to the floor.
He whispered, “Sister… this…”
Ning Xiyue, alert to the outside, lowered her voice and silently wrote on his hand:
“Brother, I heard some noises outside. Something might be happening. Let’s be careful. I’m worried it’s like that time on Daqi Mountain. This gun in your hand is from that big man; I secretly kept it.”
“Mm.”
Ning Qingyuan’s nerves tightened. He released the safety on the pistol, gripped it firmly, and positioned himself diagonally behind the door with Ning Xiyue, watching the outside through the window.
The brick in Ning Xiyue’s hand activated its defensive mode, creating a protective shield over her and her brother. With the brick’s defensive function guarding him, she felt much safer — more reliable than a bulletproof vest.
Ten minutes passed quickly, yet for Ning Xiyue and Ning Qingyuan, it felt like an hour.
Ding! “Potential threat detected at host’s location. Please remain vigilant and ensure safety.”
Ning Xiyue immediately tapped Ning Qingyuan, silently signaling: “Brother, it’s coming.”
She could already hear faint clothing rustling and footsteps.
Ning Qingyuan, focused on the outside, also noticed the sounds and tightened his grip on the pistol.
Creak—
A subtle door-opening sound echoed. Though quiet, Ning Xiyue, highly alert, heard it as if the door were opening in her ear.
It wasn’t her room’s door; it seemed to be the one next to hers.
Ning Qingyuan leaned to the side, and Ning Xiyue wrote on his hand: “Sister, someone went in. Could it not be him?”
“Wait.”
Less than a minute later, another person, tightly covered and moving stealthily, entered that room.
Seeing this, Ning Xiyue guessed they were probably encountering an enemy team-building exercise today.
If the system indicated danger, a sudden change was imminent.
Ning Xiyue’s palms were sweating; so were her brother’s, the hands writing on her palm soaked with moisture.
Another minute passed, and suddenly the outside situation escalated.
The siblings held their breath, eyes wide.
An orderly team appeared, surrounding the area. The person in the room next to Ning Xiyue’s seemed to notice the abnormality outside the moment the door opened.
Realizing the danger, the person quickly shut the door.
The first person to emerge didn’t make it inside and was captured by those outside after a few steps.
Thud.
A heavy object hit the ground.
Someone had jumped out the window.
“Ah.”
Three seconds later, a scream came from downstairs.
Confirmed — someone had been caught downstairs.
Ning Xiyue’s focus sharpened like never before. Two people had been ensnared. She knew there were people in the next room when she had set things down during the day. Now, at least one unknown enemy remained.
This person might be the “danger” the system had mentioned.
Ning Xiyue squeezed the brick with her left hand, gripped the pistol tightly with her right, watching the window ahead while staying alert to the one behind.
Ahead, she saw a figure outside her front door resembling Comrade Ji.
Other people outside were watching the next room, while he had been observing the front. Suddenly, he turned, fixing his gaze on Ning Xiyue’s former room. He tightened his grip on the gun and pushed open the door of Ning Xiyue’s room with a sharp, calculating look.
Yes, when Ning Xiyue had come in, she had only gently closed the door. Anyone observant would notice it wasn’t fully shut — Comrade Ji had clearly noticed.
He, being clever, likely suspected that the intruder would attempt to escape through her window into her room.
“System, spend ten system points to activate the little mosquito perspective inside my room.”
