Chapter 136: Her Brain Is Seriously Sick
Ning Xiyue didn’t care whether they were coming or not — she was the first to run up to the team leader and cry out her complaint:
“Captain, you must stand up for me! I just got off work and came back from the clinic, and this Wu Xiuli suddenly barged into the educated youth dormitory and lunged straight at me. She hit me without even asking what was going on. Look at all these injuries!”
As she spoke, she deliberately revealed the dense scratches all over her face, neck, and body, as well as the red, swollen backs of her hands, for everyone present to see. The onlookers gasped at the sight.
All those “injuries” were, in fact, the result of Ning Xiyue’s little secret operation while she was lying on the ground earlier — carefully drawn on with the red eyeliner pencil that Chen Yechu had kindly lent her. In the dim evening light, they looked frighteningly realistic.
“And the other people in our dorm are injured too,” she added.
“Wuu… my face hurts so much,” Wang Mengmeng cried along in cooperation. A long scratch ran from her cheekbone down to the corner of her mouth, drawing even more sympathy from the crowd.
Chen Yechu and Wu Guifang also buried their faces and wiped at their “tears.”
The captain’s gaze turned even colder as he looked at Wu Xiuli.
“Captain, I might need to take a few days off. I’m truly sorry I won’t be able to see patients for the villagers at the clinic. If anyone has a serious illness, please go to the town hospital. In my current condition, I really can’t help anyone.”
Sitting on the ground, Ning Xiyue spoke sincerely to everyone present, her eyes full of apology.
The villagers immediately reacted when they realized this would affect them. Going to the town hospital was far away and much more expensive — none of them wanted that.
Now everyone was genuinely outraged. They scolded Wu Xiuli angrily, voiced their support for Ning Xiyue and the others, and even started attacking Wu Xiuli’s entire family verbally. Li Cuihua dared not speak, Wu Laogen’s face grew darker and darker, and even Wu Xiuli herself began to feel afraid.
Aunt Qiujü shot Ning Xiyue a reassuring glance before turning to Zhang Dawei and speaking sternly:
“Captain, Wu Xiuli must be severely punished. This is too much! Look at how many incidents she’s caused already. And now she’s gone crazy again without any reason. If she hurts someone important next time — a leader on an inspection, or a child or elder in the team — what then?”
“Yes, that’s right!”
The others hurriedly chimed in, full of righteous indignation.
The captain raised his hand for silence. His expression was unreadable, his eyes dark as he stared at Wu Xiuli expressionlessly. “Tell me, what made you lose your mind again today?”
Wu Xiuli suddenly felt a deep chill wash over her. She shuddered and lowered her head. “I heard that Brother Jiandang and Wang Fenglan are getting married, and it’s all because of Ning Xiyue.”
At the mention of Ning Xiyue’s name, Wu Xiuli glared hatefully at her, still sitting on the ground.
“If she hadn’t been spreading rumors everywhere about Brother Jiandang and Wang Fenglan being together, they wouldn’t be getting married so soon. This is all her fault. It’s all Ning Xiyue’s fault! Give me back my Brother Jiandang!”
Ning Xiyue actually laughed out of anger when she heard this reason. Was this woman’s brain seriously diseased?
“I think you’re like the definite integral of sin x from 0 to π — go read a book if you’re too uneducated to understand law or reason. Don’t come out here embarrassing yourself and exposing your dumbass nature.”
Ning Xiyue cursed her mercilessly.
“They’re in love and announced their marriage themselves. Yet you accuse me of spreading rumors? The happy couple personally invited the whole team to their wedding banquet, and you say I’m the one spreading the news? You’re not even remotely involved, and yet you falsely accuse me and even come here to beat me. You’re a complete idiot.”
“Ah—Ning Xiyue, what do you mean by that?” Wu Xiuli shouted, enraged and humiliated. She didn’t understand the first sentence Ning Xiyue had said, but she knew it was an insult.
“I don’t talk to illiterates.”
Then Ning Xiyue glanced at Li Cuihua with a glint of mockery in her eyes and sneered. They really thought she was beaten so badly? Really thought Wu Xiuli could just get away with this?
“Aunt Li, your daughter is beyond saving even if you melted her down and remade her. I suggest you have another one while you’re still young. Otherwise, your whole family’s reputation will be ruined — imagine wiping the mess for your crazy daughter in your old age.”
“You… you… you…” Li Cuihua was so furious she couldn’t speak.
Everyone in the dormitory looked at Ning Xiyue with admiration.
The onlookers agreed with her words after hearing Wu Xiuli’s ridiculous explanation.
“Wu Xiuli, you’re a joke. Xiyue knew about their wedding because the bride herself said it — all of us were there,” Chen Yechu said with a mocking laugh.
Aunt Qiujü’s face was cold as she glared at Wu Xiuli. “We were the first ones who saw them together while looking for the cattle. They said they were getting married. Are you going to come hit us too?”
“Wu Xiuli is just a mad dog biting at random. It was clearly me and Aunt Qiujü who first ran into Wang Fenglan and Li Jiandang. They announced their marriage on the spot. Yet she blames Doctor Ning? She can’t have the man, so she blames others. No wonder Li Jiandang doesn’t like her.”
“If it were me, I wouldn’t like her either. I don’t even know how she has the nerve to make a scene. It has nothing to do with her, yet she’s attacked everyone in this dorm. What’s she trying to do?”
All the gossip-loving aunties in the team knew that Ning Xiyue had nothing to do with Wang Fenglan and Li Jiandang’s marriage. Ning Xiyue was purely an innocent victim — Wu Xiuli was causing trouble just for the sake of it.
The captain remained silent, listening to everyone speak like the calm before a storm.
Aunt Qiujü then asked, “Captain, now that everything’s clear — Wu Xiuli falsely accused Ning Xiyue and even attacked the entire dorm — how do you plan to handle it?”
The captain was silent for a moment, then turned to the black-faced Wu Laogen. “Wu Laogen, I told you before — if Wu Xiuli causes trouble again, your whole family will have to move out of Daliu Team. Do you remember that?”
Wu Laogen panicked at the mention of expulsion and scrambled to his knees, begging. “Captain, please, give us one more chance. I’m begging you. If you kick us out of Daliu Team, where will we go? You’d be sentencing us to starve to death!”
Seeing the captain unmoved, he slapped Wu Xiuli and Li Cuihua hard across their faces, then dragged the dazed pair to their knees in front of the captain, crying and begging them to kowtow and apologize to Ning Xiyue and the other educated youths.
Wu Xiuli and Li Cuihua were unwilling, but under Wu Laogen’s blows, they had no choice. They knelt with aggrieved faces and kowtowed. “Please, we’re begging you. Speak to the captain for us, don’t let him kick us out.”
The educated youths remained unmoved.
The captain was about to announce his decision when a team of three walked up and grabbed the utterly confused Wu Xiuli.
The captain’s heart clenched when he recognized one familiar face among them — but he hadn’t reported this incident to the authorities today…
The villagers fell silent, tension written all over their faces as they saw the intimidating scene.
Ning Xiyue noticed that the man leading the group was Comrade Li from the county Armed Forces Department.
He spoke sternly: “Wu Xiuli, you are under arrest for endangering national security. Take her away.”
The moment those words fell, the entire place fell silent.
Wu Laogen’s entire family was taken away along with her.
