Chapter 32: Father’s Evolution
Nighttime. In the room.
Jiang Mianmian was in the room watching Mother secretly feeding Father.
It was the size of a fist, triangular, golden-yellow, slightly sticky, a very large thing.
“Husband, you eat this,” Qin Luoxia said with a serious expression.
A bowl of water was placed to the side, prepared to help Husband wash it down.
Jiang Mianmian felt a bit of sympathy for Father.
She had watched the entire process of Mother working and already knew what this was. Raw snake bile.
Usually, snake bile is the size of a pigeon egg, but this one was already the size of a large chicken egg, or perhaps even a goose egg…
Jiang Changtian also looked at the object in front of him with a bewildered expression.
He was somewhat knowledgeable about medical principles. Looking at the shape and smelling the scent, he roughly knew what this was.
It had a strong, fishy smell, so it must be from a snake.
But it was so large, it almost seemed fake, as if someone had taken a sheep’s gallbladder and coated it with the scent of a snake…
“Xia, Sister Xia, is this, is this snake bile? Isn’t this gallbladder a bit too big?”
Qin Luoxia, holding the baby, pretended to be busy breastfeeding and said, “Of course it’s a big gallbladder. This snake was just wandering on the road, and I happened to catch it. It’s perfect for you to eat. Just finish it in one go.”
Jiang Mianmian, who had just finished nursing, was suddenly fed again.
“Mmph~”
In the position Mother was holding her, her arm happened to be extended, allowing her to reach that bowl of clear water.
Jiang Mianmian thought that anyone who ate such a terrifying thing would likely have diarrhea for a day or two, which should be normal.
Without any psychological pressure, she reached out and added the spiritual spring water.
Just like she did for her older brother, she poured all of it in before letting go.
Then she realized she was soaked… She had peed. She had tried her best.
Consequently, Qin Luoxia was busy changing the baby’s diaper again, while urging her husband to hurry up and eat.
Jiang Changtian looked at the object before him; it was ugly and foul-smelling, feeling as if it were going to poison him.
However, he still picked it up and chewed it, bite by bite.
Snake bile tastes bitter at first and then sweet; it dispels wind and dampness, brightens the eyes and clears the mind, clears the lungs and stops coughing, and prolongs life.
There was no sweetness, only a bitterness that pierced through his skull. It was so bitter that tears welled up in his eyes.
He still ate it bite by bite, because he noticed scars on Sister Xia’s wrists as she held the child, and there was more than one.
When Sister Xia lied, she didn’t dare to look at him.
After eating the fishy snake bile, Jiang Changtian picked up the water beside him and gulped it all down in one go.
Perhaps because the snake bile was so bitter, even the cold water tasted much sweeter than usual.
After drinking the water, Jiang Changtian took his daughter and held her in his arms.
He rested her head on his shoulder and gently stroked her back, only stopping after Mianmian let out a burp.
Jiang Mianmian liked being held by Father; he was very gentle and knew his limits.
When Father held her, he was always careful, doing his best to make her feel comfortable, even showing a sense of respect.
Jiang Mianmian was actually a bit curious about what effects the spiritual spring water had.
Mother had drunk it, had diarrhea, and felt her body become stronger; her strength had increased, and looking at the things she brought back from hunting, she was quite fierce.
Her older brother had drunk it, vomited, and was now recovering; his resistance should have strengthened, and his fever had broken.
Other physical changes weren’t obvious, except that he was genuinely clingy to her and loved touching her head.
As for herself, after drinking the spiritual spring water, her strength didn’t seem to have increased much, but her five senses had sharpened.
Even the slightest disturbance could be felt. Moreover, her perception of other people’s emotions, whether good or evil, had become more sensitive.
As for Father, she was looking forward to it!
Qin Luoxia was also very expectant, wondering if Husband’s body would become more robust after eating the snake bile.
As it turned out, in the second half of that night, Jiang Changtian had diarrhea until his face turned pale.
He ran to the toilet several times.
Jiang Mianmian woke up halfway through to nurse and saw her own Father running to the toilet.
Drowsily, she thought, “Such a good-looking Father still has to go to the toilet himself,” and then she fell asleep again.
Qin Luoxia was very worried about her husband; could the snake bile have upset his stomach?
But she also felt that the old doctor from before had some real skill. He had said that Mother was at the end of her rope and that only the bile of a fierce python could save her.
She had even asked at the time, “Isn’t a fierce python poisonous?” The doctor said that only by fighting poison with poison could there be a cure.
Her husband must be detoxifying.
Jiang Feng had also heard his Father’s movements, but he knew his Father would be fine, so he wasn’t too worried.
Listening to the restless sounds of Jiang Xiaoyu sleeping next door at night, he slowly drifted off to sleep.
Jiang Changtian ran to the latrine time and time again, but he didn’t complain.
He just assumed it was a problem with his own body.
When he was young, he often ate bad food; his stomach wasn’t very good, and his body was weak.
If he ate anything slightly different, he would get diarrhea, so he was somewhat used to it.
It was only after marriage that he slowly nursed his stomach back to health.
But after eating that snake bile tonight, his old ailment must have flared up again.
However, Jiang Changtian did not blame his wife at all.
He knew that Sister Xia must have suffered a great deal to get this snake bile.
She wouldn’t let him look, but in the darkness, he had felt several wounds.
He also hoped that his own body could become stronger and better, so that he could shield his family from the wind and rain, and could walk further, rather than becoming a burden.
However, this time the diarrhea was a bit severe.
Jiang Changtian was actually a person with a bit of a clean streak and was quite concerned about his image in some respects, so he refused his wife’s company and went to the latrine himself.
Back and forth, he kept tossing and turning.
Worried about waking his wife and children, he didn’t return to the room and simply lay down on the bamboo chair under the tree, waiting for dawn.
The dog days of summer were very hot, and even in the early morning, the breeze wasn’t cold.
Jiang Changtian lay on the bamboo chair, not feeling any physical discomfort; instead, he felt quite clear-headed, waiting for the sky to slowly brighten and the round sun in the east to slowly leap out.
At such times, he felt that life had meaning.
As the morning sun rose, it seemed as if some strength had been added to his body.
Jiang Changtian lay there, letting his hair fly loose, not tied up; he might have looked a bit disheveled, but this was home, so it didn’t matter too much.
He quietly watched the sunrise scene alone. He felt a bit moved and a bit relieved.
Inside the room, Jiang Mianmian woke up, hungry.
Habitually, she went to find the milk source.
She found Mother and drank milk efficiently.
Then, it seemed she didn’t see Father.
Mother fed her, wrapped her in an old piece of clothing, and went outside.
The courtyard door opened.
Qin Luoxia, holding the baby, yawned as she went out, only to see her husband lying on the bamboo chair.
The first ray of morning sunlight shone on her husband’s body.
In that instant, Qin Luoxia didn’t know how to describe it; her heart just skipped a beat.
Back when she jumped into the water to fish him out, she had thought she was fishing out a beautiful female water ghost, never imagining it was a man.
Years of hard labor and bitterness seemed to have made her husband fade into the crowd.
But looking at him now, she suddenly had the feeling of seeing him for the first time.
Bathed in the morning light, her husband was plated with golden light, as if a true celestial being had descended to earth.
Jiang Mianmian was originally nursing, and Mother would usually gently pat her while holding her.
But as she drank, the rhythm seemed off; why wasn’t Mother patting her?
She glanced over, then was so shocked that her mouth fell open.
【Image】 Early in the morning, a beautiful man with flowing long hair was lying on their bamboo chair… covered in golden light, exuding an air of nobility.
Jiang Mianmian was so shocked she closed her mouth again and swallowed a big gulp of milk.
This, this, the direction of the spiritual spring water’s benefits seemed a bit wrong.
For Mother, her strength had increased, but why was Father’s side adding a BUFF to his looks?
Father’s looks were already the best in the whole family, exceptionally outstanding. Now, it was more than just outstanding.
Jiang Mianmian was force-fed a mouthful of milk and didn’t even dare to make a sound, worried about waking up the beautiful Father.
As it turned out, Jiang Changtian heard the commotion, turned his head, and saw his wife and child bathed in the morning light.
He smiled back: “Sister Xia, morning.”
Qin Luoxia’s face turned red rapidly in the morning sun.
She dumped the daughter in her arms to her husband and ran back into the house in a few quick steps.
Jiang Mianmian lay in Father’s arms with a bewildered expression.
Her mouth wouldn’t close, and drool flowed down… She clenched her fists and waved them!
