Doomsday: Scavenging in a Survival Game – CH147

Verification, Targeted

Chapter 147: Verification, Targeted

Ji Fengyan suddenly and inexplicably crashed hard to the ground.

Everyone else stared in shock, mouths agape at the bizarre scene.

The words Pei Xuan’an was about to say got stuck in his throat.

He had been just about to say that his injuries were probably caused by Su Ning.

But now, seeing Ji Fengyan fall to the ground for no reason right beside him, Pei Xuan’an’s suspicion solidified. He had clearly sensed hostility from Ji Fengyan toward Su Ning, and right after that—Ji Fengyan fell?

“Could her ability actually cause bad luck to those who harbor hostile intent toward her?”

The thought made Pei Xuan’an’s face twitch.

“All I did was scan her. How’s that even hostile?”

Ji Fengyan climbed to his feet, his face flushed red. He had never been this unlucky before.

Even Mu Yunfei stared at Ji Fengyan with confusion.

But the rest of the group didn’t dwell too long on this odd incident.

As day broke, more and more players began appearing on the island.

After surviving a few dungeons, most of them had acquired at least some strength.

And thanks to the pre-dungeon warning from the “Prophet” — that is, Pei Xuan’an — many players had been prepared with water survival supplies, even those who had started in the ocean like Su Ning.

Though the storm from the night before had been terrifying, many players had managed to make it through.

Su Ning also noticed players from other countries. Due to the nature of the survival dungeon, all languages were automatically translated by the system, allowing barrier-free communication between everyone.

However, Su Ning’s group remained highly alert toward foreign players.

Compared to the structured sanctuaries of the Great Xia territory, players from other countries often came from far more chaotic environments — where the law of the jungle reigned, and only the strong survived.

They weren’t bound by any rules.

Huang Zhengang’s team split up to explore the dungeon and gather survival supplies. Since there was no system-mandated mission this time, they could move faster and more freely.

Of course, Su Ning didn’t go with them.

Mu Yunfei had tried to invite her to join them, but Su Ning declined.

“I think going solo will be easier,” Su Ning replied, glancing briefly at the three people behind Mu Yunfei.

At some point, all three of them had developed bruises and swelling on their faces.

Su Ning had no interest in being a test subject for their ability experiments. After a few trials, it seemed they had already started to figure out parts of her “Super Bad Luck” talent.

Su Ning thought to herself:

“As expected of people from the No.1 Shelter.”

She made no attempt to hide her intent to move alone.

Mu Yunfei shrugged.

“Whatever floats your boat.”

Once Su Ning left, Mu Yunfei turned to Pei Xuan’an.

“Is she really as mysterious as you claimed?”

Pei Xuan’an rubbed his eye — at some point, his left eye had swollen up.

“Didn’t you see it just now? Do you know how I ended up with a black eye?”

Mu Yunfei had to stifle a laugh.

“We only asked you to demonstrate whether her powers were as wild as you said… Who knew you’d literally get smacked with misfortune!”

For the first time ever, Pei Xuan’an’s [Future Vision] ability had completely failed him.

Ji Fengyan added,

“We’ve confirmed it now — her ability is bizarre and unpredictable. Pei Xuan’an’s precognition doesn’t work on her. And more importantly, if you develop hostile thoughts toward her, misfortune or sudden accidents seem to strike almost immediately.”

As he spoke, a large lump suddenly appeared on Ji Fengyan’s forehead.

Mu Yunfei burst out laughing.

The three men stood there, covered in bandages and bruises.

Zhongsun Junzhang, still missing a front tooth and speaking with a lisp, grumbled,

“Why is it that only you’re fine?” he asked Mu Yunfei.

When Pei Xuan’an had shared his suspicions about Su Ning’s power, no one believed him at first. So they had decided to test it by harboring ill will toward her.

And what followed was a string of ridiculous accidents:

Ji Fengyan tripped again, face-first into the ground. Though he used gravity control to slow the fall, his forehead still slammed down hard enough to leave a giant bump on his once-handsome face.

Zhongsun Junzhang had it worse. A monster suddenly charged out and smashed into his face, knocking out one of his front teeth.

Pei Xuan’an had tried once more to “foresee” Su Ning’s future… only to be hit in the face again by a flying rock.

Now, Zhongsun Junzhang asked Mu Yunfei once more, “Why are you the only one totally fine? Don’t tell me you didn’t feel hostile toward her?”

Mu Yunfei snapped, “Are you all stupid? Why would I randomly hate on some girl I don’t even know?” She rolled her eyes at them. “Tch. Men.”

Pei Xuan’an: Don’t lump me in! I wasn’t hostile either!

Then she frowned and asked, “But why haven’t we ever heard of someone like her in the other shelters?”

Ji Fengyan replied, “Who knows? These days, I just want to hoard supplies in my planting space. I don’t care about anyone else. If Old Mu hadn’t ordered me to protect Pei Xuan’an, I wouldn’t be running around with you three clowns.”

He shook his head, “Anyway, we still have to complete the sea monster elimination mission. Pei Xuan’an foresaw that Deep Sea Mud can alter geographical features. If we get our hands on it, our shelter could improve the land and finally start growing crops.”

Zhongsun Junzhang muttered, “Easy for you to say. You saw what happened last night. The monsters in this dungeon aren’t just strong — some of them are intelligent species. That mermaid we ran into? She blew her horn and triggered a terrifying storm. If not for that, Pei Xuan’an wouldn’t have been blown away.”

The group fell silent.

Meanwhile, Su Ning had begun her scavenger journey.

After the storm, much of the forest had been devastated.

Su Ning returned to the area where she had previously harvested coconuts. While many of the trees had been snapped in the wind, there were still plenty of fallen coconuts scattered on the ground.

She collected them all into her storage space.

“I heard that the core of the coconut tree is sweet. Might as well give it a taste.”

She found a recently fallen tree nearby, used her knife to peel away the tough outer bark, and discovered the white heartwood inside. She sliced off a few pieces and tasted them.

The texture was crisp and fresh, with a faint coconut aroma — quite different from the fruit, and rather refreshing.

“This can serve as food. Plus, once dried, the bark could be used for kindling.”

With such useful resources, Su Ning wasn’t about to let them go to waste.

She continued harvesting fallen coconut trees.

Youyou, her companion, stood guard nearby — though Su Ning also let him sample some of the tree core.

Youyou: “Crunchy! Tasty!”

Su Ning had hoped she could go undisturbed for a while.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

Seeing her moving alone, and accompanied by what appeared to be a powerful beast, someone had set their sights on her.

Youyou suddenly barked a warning.

Su Ning stopped mid-action and looked up — just in time to see four men approaching her.

One of them was staring wide-eyed at Youyou, who was covered in striking black-and-white fur.

“Boss! I told you I wasn’t seeing things — that’s definitely a juvenile tiger! A beast like this belongs with someone like you!”
