Chapter 135: A Thousand Miles to Deliver Herself, A Small Gift with Deep Meaning
“Ning Xiyue…”
Wu Xiuli saw Ning Xiyue in the courtyard and shouted her name through gritted teeth.
Her hair was a tangled mess, her face twisted with rage, and her eyes burned with anger. Without saying a single word, she charged at Ning Xiyue like a mad bull, hands ready to strike and tear at hair the moment she got close.
The other educated youths in the courtyard were all stunned by Wu Xiuli’s sudden madness.
Ning Xiyue, utterly baffled, watched the furious Wu Xiuli rush toward her, claws bared. She simply shifted her feet slightly to the left, letting Wu Xiuli lunge into empty air — and crash face-first into the ground.
With a loud thud, Wu Xiuli fell flat on her face.
“Ah! I’ll kill you! It’s all your fault, you b***h…”
Cursing and swearing, Wu Xiuli scrambled to her feet and lunged at Ning Xiyue again.
This time, the dazed educated youths finally snapped out of it and rushed forward to restrain her. But the distance was too far — they couldn’t stop Wu Xiuli in time. Still, that gave Ning Xiyue the perfect opportunity.
A thousand miles to deliver herself — a small gift with deep meaning.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ning Xiyue saw Liu Yao and Yu Zhiyu being sent out by Chen Ye Chu to find the team leader and Aunt Qiuju. She stretched her hands and legs, ready to “get to work.”
Her hands had been itching for action anyway. Since someone had volunteered to walk right into her reach, she might as well oblige.
This time, she didn’t start by pulling out a brick. Nor did she dodge. Instead, she deliberately leaned forward, moving closer to Wu Xiuli’s incoming hands. Just as Wu’s hands were about to grab her, Ning Xiyue let out a deliberately pained scream — then she started fighting back.
While ensuring she didn’t get hurt herself, her hands didn’t stay idle — she aimed specifically at the more hidden, sensitive spots on Wu Xiuli’s body.
“Xiyue, are you okay?” Chen Ye Chu shouted anxiously as she ran over.
Wu Guifang also rushed out of the kitchen, her face full of concern.
Wang Mengmeng and the others all looked worried too.
That was because Ning Xiyue’s movements and painful cries created a false impression — visually and audibly — that she was being beaten badly. They completely forgot that Ning Xiyue was actually quite good at fighting.
In reality, Wu Xiuli was just flailing her hands around wildly. Thanks to Ning Xiyue’s tai chi training, she didn’t take a single hit. On the contrary, Wu Xiuli kept hurting herself — and with Ning Xiyue’s subtle strikes, she would definitely be too sore to get out of bed tomorrow.
In the middle of the fight, Ning Xiyue gave Chen Ye Chu a reassuring glance. Receiving the signal, Chen cooperated by holding back the others, pretending to struggle to break up the fight, buying Ning Xiyue more time to land a few more hits before anyone stepped in.
Even those who tried to break it up — Zhao Jianshe, Wu Guifang, and Wang Mengmeng — ended up getting scratched by Wu Xiuli.
“Ah! My face!”
Wang Mengmeng’s cheek now bore a red scratch mark. Covering her burning cheek, she glared furiously at Wu Xiuli. Forget patience — if she had to suffer, then so would Wu Xiuli.
Wang Mengmeng joined the fight, even cooperating with Ning Xiyue, making Wu Xiuli’s situation even more miserable.
“Ahhh—! I’ll kill you all! Kill you all! You educated youths are all scum!” Wu Xiuli screamed louder and louder — which only meant she was getting beaten harder.
Her words infuriated everyone. And since many of them had already been scratched by Wu Xiuli, no one held back anymore. What had started as a one-on-one brawl quickly turned into a group beating.
Even Zhao Jianshe threw a punch — aimed right where Wu Xiuli had scratched his arm.
Of course, the main fighters were Ning Xiyue, Chen Ye Chu, Wang Mengmeng, and Wu Guifang. The male comrades focused on shielding them from getting hurt while occasionally assisting from the sidelines.
Wang Jiandong, acting as lookout, suddenly shouted, “The team leader is coming!” when he saw the two who had gone to call for help returning with reinforcements.
The women, having spent enough time in the team to understand how things worked, exchanged glances and immediately released Wu Xiuli just as the leader approached. Chen Ye Chu even quickly pulled something out of her pocket and smeared a few marks on everyone’s bodies.
Wu Xiuli, seeing what she thought was her chance to turn the tables, went wild. Laughing hysterically, she pounced again, clawing and grabbing.
“Ah! It hurts!”
“Ouch~”
“This is unbearable! She’s trying to kill us!”
“My face! You’ll pay for my face… sob sob…”
The four of them collapsed dramatically to the ground and didn’t get up, wailing in pain.
“Get up, you shameless people! Get up!” Wu Xiuli yelled, still trying to attack, but Zhao Jianshe and Wang Jiandong grabbed her from either side.
The team leader arrived to see Wu Xiuli raging in the middle of the courtyard. The veins on his temples throbbed as he shouted angrily:
“Wu Xiuli! What on earth are you doing now?!”
Curled up on the ground, Ning Xiyue cried out in pain and grievance, “Leader, you have to stand up for us, I…”
“Leader, they were the ones who hit me!” Wu Xiuli shouted indignantly — only to be cut off by Liu Yao, who pointed furiously at the group on the ground:
“Enough, Wu Xiuli! You’re unbelievable. Look at what you’ve done — and you still dare to talk nonsense?”
Then she crouched down beside the “injured” group, her face full of concern and anger:
“Xiyue, how could she beat you like this? Oh my god, Mengmeng, your face! Yechu, your neck! Sister Guifang, your hand! Wu Xiuli did all this by herself? She’s too vicious — storming into the educated youth courtyard and attacking people. How dare she?”
Liu Yao’s blunt words pointed out every “injury,” making the team leader even more furious at the standing Wu Xiuli.
Yu Zhiyu added from behind, “And the male comrades are injured too. Jianshe and the others all have scratch marks.”
Everyone who came along followed their words and looked over the educated youths’ “injuries.”
The ones lying on the ground also played along, subtly revealing their marks and sitting there with red eyes, looking pitiful and wronged.
Zhao Jianshe spoke truthfully to the leader: “Leader, Wu Xiuli did it. She rushed in and started attacking Comrade Xiyue. We were all shocked. When we tried to stop her, she attacked us too.”
Wang Jiandong pointed at his reddened face, looking deeply aggrieved, as if words failed him.
They successfully won over the sympathy and outrage of the onlookers.
“Who would have thought Wu Xiuli was this fierce? She beat up all the educated youths in the courtyard! Look at those girls — scratches all over their faces, necks, and hands — while Wu Xiuli doesn’t have a single mark except messy hair.”
“They’re all educated and decent people, trying to restrain themselves. But Wu Xiuli? She’s like a madwoman, biting and scratching people every day. How many incidents has she caused this year already?”
“Pah! They’re all in on it! Yes, they ganged up and beat me! Shameless!”
Unable to form coherent arguments, Wu Xiuli could only roar incoherently — which made her look even more like a deranged lunatic.
The leader looked at her with utter disdain, his face dark as he prepared to deal with the situation.
Just then, Wu Xiuli’s parents arrived.
Wu Laogen glared coldly at his daughter.
Li Cuihua, on the other hand, caught sight of Ning Xiyue and Chen Ye Chu lying pitifully on the ground — and a flicker of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.
