Chapter 347: Entering the Emergency Room
When the Red Dragon King heard this, his heart instantly raced with anxiety. Xu Youyou was acting way too confident, as if she had some major leverage in her hands.
Since he hadn’t found the treasure yet, the Red Dragon King didn’t dare leave. He gritted his teeth and continued digging in the cellar, dragging both the steward and Wu Xiaoguang into helping him.
About twenty minutes later, the sudden sound of a car horn from outside made everyone in the cellar freeze.
“It’s a police car. Why are the police here again?” Wu Xiaoguang muttered.
Xu Youyou smiled and said, “Sir, I’m waiting for the police. What are you waiting for?”
The Red Dragon King and the steward laughed when they heard this and said, “What reason do you have to call the police? Trespassing? Old Madam Wu is family. Wu Xiaoguang is family too. We’re all one family — how are you going to argue otherwise?”
Wu Xiaoguang nodded vigorously. “Yeah! Are you trying to make a false police report?”
Old Madam Wu glanced at Xu Youyou, starting to feel a little uncertain.
But Xu Youyou remained calm. Earlier, when Old Madam Wu thought she was just playing with her phone, Xu Youyou had actually sent a text to Xu Fang asking her to call the police — with a perfectly valid reason.
A few minutes later, a group of police officers rushed in, immediately packing the already cramped cellar wall to wall.
“We were invited here by Wu Xiaoguang, not trespassing. Don’t be fooled by a false report,” the steward said confidently.
The officers exchanged glances, a flicker of doubt flashing in their eyes.
Xu Youyou smiled and said, “They didn’t come here for trespassing. Have you gotten too comfortable and forgotten who you really are?”
The steward’s face turned ugly.
About forty minutes earlier, when Old Madam Wu was arguing with her grandnephew, she thought Xu Youyou was spacing out. In reality, Xu Youyou was communicating with her system.
“System baby, are you there?”
The system reluctantly responded.
Xu Youyou asked, “Remember what happened on Treasure Island? How could a powerful system like you suddenly fail?”
If the system had a face, it would be deeply unpleasant right now.
[Host, just say what you want. I’ll give you a little more help — within reason.]
Hearing that, Xu Youyou felt her heart skip a beat. Her system, usually so stingy, suddenly turned so gentle and accommodating. It gave her an uneasy feeling — like she was eating her last meal.
But with other things to worry about, Xu Youyou didn’t have time to dwell on it. She reasoned carefully, “I don’t know if there’s something mystical about Treasure Island, like some weird magnetic field that made you glitch, but can you compensate me? Maybe let me cheat a little? Like help the old man recover right now?”
[You can cheat.]
Xu Youyou’s eyes lit up instantly. If the old man recovered, all her problems would be solved.
But the system continued:
[But I can’t make him wake up immediately.]
Xu Youyou almost pretended she didn’t see that “but.”
“Then what kind of cheat can you give me? Can you at least show me where the treasure is so I can just grab it and leave?” she asked.
[The treasure in this cellar can only be retrieved by a member of the Wu family. I can’t let you take it directly.]
“Then what can you do?” Xu Youyou pressed.
[I can give you small cheats. Like letting you see a side of someone others don’t know about.]
Snapping back to reality from her conversation with the system, Xu Youyou faced the officers who asked, “Miss Xu, who are you reporting?”
Everyone else looked confused.
Xu Youyou pointed straight at the steward. “It’s him!”
The officers immediately looked at the steward but didn’t act right away. After all, they had reviewed the fugitive’s warrant during the drive, and the man before them didn’t match the photo.
“He had plastic surgery. You can check his fingerprints or run a DNA test!” Xu Youyou said.
The steward’s mind was already a mess. Seeing the group of officers blocking the cellar’s only exit, he knew he wasn’t getting away. Trying to stay calm, he said, “I really don’t understand what riddles you’re speaking in. Real gold doesn’t fear the fire. If you’ve caught the wrong person, I’ll make sure to get justice!”
The Red Dragon King realized what was happening and urgently said to the police, “Officers, I have a relationship with Director Liu at—”
Before he could finish, the officers moved forward and arrested the steward.
One officer said, “Maybe he changed his face, but the voice hasn’t changed. I remember his voice.”
Xu Youyou had received a small cheat from the system — the steward’s hidden identity. Although he looked polished and successful, hanging out with the rich and powerful…
Who would’ve guessed that this favored steward of the Red Dragon King was actually a murderer, wanted for a killing ten years ago in Hunan Province?
If he hadn’t joined the Red Dragon King early, handled a few big jobs, and gotten his appearance and fate shielded by mystical means, he wouldn’t have lived free for so long — much less dared to return to Hunan.
Now that Xu Youyou had exposed him, all the Red Dragon King’s painstaking efforts to protect him were destroyed.
The Red Dragon King’s face turned deathly pale, and then he suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
“Your man gets arrested, and you’re coughing up blood? What, you got even more crimes on you?” Xu Youyou said casually.
The police immediately turned suspicious eyes on the Red Dragon King.
He glared at Xu Youyou fiercely.
But soon, a young officer stepped between them, blocking Xu Youyou from the Red Dragon King’s line of sight.
“Sir, your friend is involved in several murders. You’ve been associating with him closely. We’ll need your cooperation for further investigation. Please come with us to the station.”
Hearing this, the Red Dragon King didn’t argue and quietly followed the police out.
Even though Xu Youyou had successfully exposed the steward, she still felt something was wrong. The Red Dragon King was way too cooperative. Was he confident the steward would survive the interrogation? Or did he believe the steward wouldn’t rat him out?
In Xu Youyou’s view, with their close relationship and years of shady dealings, once one fell, the other should be dragged down too.
But she wasn’t hoping this one move would get them both locked away forever. She just wanted to stall them long enough for her to retrieve the treasure.
As soon as she left the police station, Xu Youyou immediately called the person taking care of the old man.
“How’s the old man?”
The voice on the other end was panicked.
“Boss, the old man… he’s been rushed into the emergency room…”
