Chapter 8: Ghost in the Mirror
Bai Cha returned a smile that conveyed “shyness mixed with the fluster of being caught secretly looking.”
Heh, trying to act with her.
No one had ever seen through her acting in all her years.
If it weren’t for her poor health, she would have definitely entered the entertainment industry and won all the major awards.
“All you know is how to talk, why don’t you go up and take a look!” Brother Cai spoke up from the side, wanting to point someone else to explore.
But Wang Xuming interrupted him, saying, “I think the most important thing right now is that we should discuss the rules. Given the appearance of the front desk staff just now, perhaps we should look at the rules on both flyers to see which one is true.”
Brother Cai’s expression was displeased.
To be honest, he had never even heard of this Wang Xuming. He also had no memorable features. People who could reach A-level generally had some reputation.
Unless this person was really useless and had only survived by being a coward.
So he was very unhappy about this person repeatedly interrupting him and trying to seize his authority.
“Then tell me, which one is real?” Brother Cai stared at Wang Xuming with a cold gaze.
Wang Xuming spread his hands.
“I’m not good at these things.”
“Then what the hell are you talking about? If you say one more word, believe me, I have plenty of ways to kill you!”
Wang Xuming smiled good-naturedly.
Irritation arose in Brother Cai’s heart.
To be honest, rule-based instances usually only had two ways to clear them: either you were naturally smart, or you pushed other players to test the waters.
There were eight people here including him, which meant letting the remaining seven people try and fail was not a problem.
Brother Cai looked at everyone coldly and suddenly pointed at the flyer from the front desk.
“Tonight, everyone will follow the rules on this flyer.”
Everyone subconsciously frowned, especially Zhong Man, who had just directly faced the front desk staff.
“Brother Cai… we don’t even know if we violated any death rules just now. If we still follow the front desk’s rules tonight, wouldn’t that be bad?”
He had put it very euphemistically, his face full of pleading. But how could Brother Cai care about his life or death? What he wanted was for these people to trigger the death conditions.
The others remained silent.
Everyone searched the entire guest-house again. Besides confirming the location of the main door key hanging at the front desk, they found no new clues.
The doors of the unoccupied rooms were all locked from the inside and couldn’t be opened at all unless they were forced open. The rules hadn’t said they couldn’t open these doors, but no one dared to act rashly for the time being.
What if the front desk staff lived inside?
But whether it was an illusion or not, as the time gradually approached evening, a damp and cold feeling gradually permeated the entire guest-house.
It was like rising damp, or like a heavy fog in the deep winter of the north, the moisture in the fog carrying a bone-chilling coldness.
The surroundings looked quite normal. The lights in this guest-house were all warm yellow, but they didn’t make anyone feel warm.
Xiao Xiao and Bai Cha returned to their room.
A tired look appeared on Bai Cha’s face, and she forced herself to sit on the bed.
Xiao Xiao hesitated and said, “It probably won’t be possible to make any progress now. Why don’t you rest?”
Although sleeping might also involve some danger, given the rules.
But Bai Cha looked like she might not even survive until tomorrow.
Bai Cha used the back of her hand to test her forehead.
It was still 38 degrees Celsius.
Her body felt very cold now, and her head ached. She couldn’t sleep in this state at all.
“I’ll go wash another towel.”
Xiao Xiao didn’t stop her.
The real danger probably wouldn’t start until night. They couldn’t find any clues right now.
It would be good for Bai Cha to take advantage of this time to reduce her fever.
Bai Cha walked into the bathroom, and the door creaked slowly shut.
She paused, looking thoughtfully at the door. Outside the bathroom door, which was about to close, it was pitch black, completely different from the brightly lit scene when they had entered.
The light inside the bathroom was also dim yellow, and now it seemed to have become even dimmer, as if the voltage had dropped very low.
Her reflection in the mirror was sallow and haggard, looking much worse than before.
Bai Cha got closer and touched her face.
Perhaps it wasn’t an illusion. Her reflection in the mirror seemed to be a little bit slower than her movements.
She immediately showed a meaningful smile, a strange excitement flickering in her eyes.
Her reflection in the mirror, which also smiled, had a momentary stiffness.
Bai Cha chuckled softly and turned on the faucet.
Bright red blood with a strong bloody smell instantly flowed out.
Bai Cha felt a bit nauseous from the smell and frowned.
But her reflection in the mirror still maintained that meaningful smile.
She saw it.
Her reflection’s smile widened, the corners of its mouth even splitting.
Bai Cha: “…”
Bai Cha: “Ugh…”
She began to vomit violently into the sink. Because she was bending over to vomit, the strong bloody smell made her stomach churn even more, and sour liquid surged out in waves.
The water in the faucet suddenly stopped for a moment, as if hesitating whether to continue running, and began to sputter.
Bai Cha began to cough violently again.
She raised her eyes, looking at the grim and terrifying version of herself in the mirror, which had become expressionless.
