Chapter 48: Ye Jiamei Unrestrained Once Freed
“It’s too big. There’s no way we can finish it in two hours,” the cloth shop owner shook his head hurriedly after looking at the tent sketch that Ye Jiamei had drawn.
“This is one hundred taels of silver. Can you get it done now?”
In a small town with only two streets, one hundred taels of silver was an astronomical sum. And that was without even counting the cost of materials!
The shopkeeper, who had been in a dilemma, immediately snatched the silver note from Ye Jiamei’s hand and examined it carefully.
After confirming that it was genuine, a wide smile spread across his face. He quickly turned to the workers bustling around the shop and shouted, “Hang up the ‘closed’ sign! Everyone, help make this lady’s order first before we open the shop again! Move, move, move!”
He was not about to let this golden opportunity slip away. In a small town like this, even making a hundred taels a month was a miracle. Meeting a customer as generous as Ye Jiamei was like winning the lottery. The shopkeeper was willing to risk his life to fulfill her request.
In her past life, Ye Jiamei had never been one to scrimp and save. Growing up in a wealthy family and marrying Yu Haojie, who owned a profitable business dealing in agricultural products and research, she had always spent money freely. With her own salary added to the mix, she had never been one to hold back on spending.
And now, knowing that her daughter’s system had an endless supply of silver notes, one hundred taels seemed like nothing to her.
“Make sure to sew windproof leather on the inside, thick cloth in the middle, and oil paper on the outside. I don’t care about the stitching, but it must be sturdy, warm, and durable,” Ye Jiamei instructed.
“Of course, of course! Rest assured!” the shopkeeper promised, not daring to slack off in the slightest. To him, Ye Jiamei was the living embodiment of a money god. He was willing to fulfill any request, even if it meant embroidering flowers on the tent in two hours.
In fact, Yu Luo had already bought almost everything they needed last time, so there wasn’t much else to buy. After wandering around for a bit, Ye Jiamei bought some sturdy wooden poles to support the tent and then went back to find Yu Luo.
“Mom, you’re back so soon? I was worried you wouldn’t have enough time. Is that all you bought?”
The delivery men had already brought the goods to the small courtyard, and Yu Luo had stored everything into her system. Seeing her mother return before noon, she was a bit surprised.
“This town is tiny with hardly anything worth buying. Why don’t we find a nice restaurant to have a proper meal and then check into an inn for a hot bath? My hospital has hot water and everything,” Ye Jiamei suggested with a carefree smile.
Hearing that, Yu Luo’s eyes lit up and she eagerly agreed.
Though the town was small, it did have an inn. Without hesitation, Ye Jiamei handed the innkeeper two hundred taels of silver and ordered a lavish spread—spiced beef, roasted chicken, duck, and goose, steamed buns, flatbreads, pastries… She even requested twenty hot dishes, each twenty times the regular portion, as well as two large pots of thick white rice porridge and a huge steamer full of rice.
This way, whenever they wanted to eat, Yu Luo could just take a portion out of her system, and the food would still be steaming hot and fresh.
Once they shut the door, Yu Luo couldn’t help but twitch at the corners of her mouth.
“Mom, we’re in exile! Isn’t it a bit too much to go all out like this? Even in ancient times, you’re still living it up like a rich lady!” Yu Luo complained, looking at her mother in disbelief.
Ye Jiamei, completely unbothered, dragged her daughter into the hospital bathroom with a laugh.
“You and your father have been cooking on the road every day. Can’t your mom pamper you a little for all your hard work?” Ye Jiamei grinned.
Yu Luo was left speechless.
“I know you mean well, but we should try to keep a low profile. Those dishes you ordered—if you take them out of the system every day, who’s going to believe we’re in exile? People might think we’re out on a picnic instead!”
“Alright, alright, stop nagging. You’re even naggier than your old mom. If you keep it up, we won’t have time to take a bath!” Ye Jiamei retorted playfully, waving her hand dismissively.
She was used to being chided by her daughter about her lifestyle. After all, she had always been a woman who never touched housework, living a life of luxury. She saw no point in wasting time on mundane chores when money could solve those problems.
Seeing her mother’s carefree attitude, Yu Luo could only sigh helplessly.
Not long after, the innkeeper brought all the food Ye Jiamei had ordered, filling the small room to the brim. The smell of delicious food soon wafted through the room.
“Mom, you’re really bold. Aren’t you afraid the innkeeper and the staff will be scared to death when they see us leave empty-handed?” Yu Luo asked incredulously.
“What’s there to be afraid of? Once we leave this town, we’re never coming back anyway. Let them suspect all they want,” Ye Jiamei shrugged nonchalantly.
Yu Luo was at a loss for words. Her mother, once freed from the watchful eyes of the guards, was acting like a wild monkey let loose in the mountains—completely unrestrained.
