Chapter 13: Heaven’s Chosen, Pure Infernal Style
Gu Hua looked dazed. “He really was—I saw him with my own eyes. That man was definitely not this one…”
“But the truth is, this man really is Chi Lisen. He’d never go along with Chi Qian to put on a lie.”
Ling Qian’s words nearly broke Gu Hua’s mind.
If Chi’s grandfather was truly Chi Lisen, then what were all her years of scheming to cozy up to the Gu family even for?
As she watched Chi Qian walk out with Chi Lisen, Gu Hua jolted awake as if from a nightmare and hurried after them.
“Grandpa!”
Chi Qian stopped in her tracks. Chi Lisen, who hadn’t intended to pay attention, also paused.
Gu Hua’s face lit up with joy and excitement, blushing as she walked closer. “Grandpa, it’s me, Hua Hua.”
“Grandpa, don’t you only have one granddaughter—me?” Chi Qian blinked innocently. “Or is she your granddaughter too?”
Gu Hua gritted her teeth, nearly choking on Chi Qian’s faux-sweetness. “Grandpa, don’t you remember me? You even told Uncle once to give me New Year’s money.”
Chi Qian: “Oh~ so Grandpa’s red envelopes aren’t just for me. Other people get them too.”
Chi Lisen shot her a sidelong glance. “I don’t recall giving her any red envelope. Must have been your eldest uncle acting on his own.”
Then he warned Gu Hua, “This classmate—I don’t remember having a second granddaughter. Don’t go around fabricating relatives.”
“Grandpa… no, Chairman Chi, I was just too excited to see my lifelong idol. I never meant to offend you,” Gu Hua said with a face full of reverence.
The system in her head echoed: [That’s right, Host, that’s how you do it. Become Chi Lisen’s granddaughter and drive Chi Qian out of the family—then you’ll be able to take what’s left of her fate.]
Chi Qian nearly exploded on the spot!
She didn’t even have much fate left to begin with, and now Gu Hua wanted to suck up the rest?
Was she some kind of human vacuum cleaner?!
Before Chi Qian could lash out, Chi Lisen’s voice cut in coldly: “There are countless people who claim to look up to me. Who exactly do you think you are? You admire me, and I’m supposed to indulge you?”
Gu Hua’s face froze—she hadn’t expected the legendary figure to speak so harshly.
Chi Qian’s eyes lit up instantly. Grandpa was so cool!
Chi Lisen glanced at the silly girl beside him, not knowing what she was so happy about.
When she ran into someone who used to bully her, she didn’t even think to bully them back, just stood there smiling?
So naïve—without his protection, she’d be eaten alive out there.
The child hadn’t even left yet, and Chi Lisen was already worrying about her.
He gestured for the bodyguards to clean up the mess, then led Chi Qian away.
Gu Hua’s breathing turned uneven with anxiety, but she could only watch helplessly as they walked off.
If it had just been an ordinary rich family, she could have handled it.
But Chi Lisen… this was Chi Lisen!
If she’d known this earlier, she never would have traded back with Chi Qian!
But now—it was too late for regrets.
[Don’t worry, Host. You’ll still have a chance,] the system’s mechanical voice chimed in.
While Gu Hua was drowning in regret, Chi Qian was basking in triumph.
She was truly starting to feel the joy of being a salted fish, clinging to a powerful thigh and lying flat.
Lying flat… was really addictive.
Aside from that unpleasant system attached to Gu Hua.
Before leaving, she overheard Gu Hua’s system saying: [The quickest place to gain popularity is the entertainment industry.]
That reminded Chi Qian of something she had almost forgotten.
Back in elementary school, she and Gu Hua had appeared on the same children’s puzzle variety show.
Gu Hua had shone brightly on stage, earning herself the nickname “Genius Little Fairy.”
Meanwhile, Chi Qian had been forced by Madam Gu not to perform too well on the show—otherwise, she’d be forbidden from eating snacks again.
So, she ended up as Gu Hua’s contrast, and was hated by the audience for a long while.
In the original plot, Gu Hua joined a summer variety show in her first year of high school, became wildly popular, and people dug up her past as the “Genius Little Fairy,” boosting her fame even higher.
So that was the scheme her system had in mind.
On the first day of summer break, Chi Qian’s long-awaited Turtle Pond—oh no, “Wishing Pond”—was finally completed.
And per her request, the turtle was in place.
Chi Qian gazed at the flame turtle paddling lazily in the water with a face full of maternal love, then tossed a coin into the pond.
The wish itself wasn’t the point—it was all about the sense of ceremony.
Hehe.
Please bless her to stay far, far away from those ridiculous main characters, and live her life as wildly as she pleased!
But her peace lasted only two days before disaster struck.
Grandpa was going on a business trip!
And he planned to send her to stay with her second uncle for a while, until he came back.
Another business trip!
The last one had cost her dear eldest uncle, and now it was finally—ah, no, she was getting carried away.
Chi Qian wiped away a completely nonexistent tear at the corner of her eye, looking pitifully at Chi Lisen. “Grandpa, I’ve never even met Second Uncle before. What if I don’t get along with him?”
“No worries. If he dares treat you badly, I’ll break his legs when I get back,” Chi Lisen said lightly.
In Chi Lisen’s eyes, sons could be tossed anywhere and left to fend for themselves.
Granddaughters, however, required at least a little care.
After all, they were too fragile.
Chi Qian suddenly felt sorry for the uncle she hadn’t even met yet.
“Grandpa, what kind of person is Second Uncle?”
“Your second uncle has a steady temperament. I’ll feel more at ease leaving you with him. If it were your third uncle…” Chi Lisen shook his head. If that were the case, he’d rather take Chi Qian with him on the business trip than hand her over.
The psychologist had said Chi Qian needed the company of family.
With him leaving, the only Chi still in Fuguang City were the second and the third sons.
So he had no choice but to leave Chi Qian with one of them.
Chi Qian thought: What’s the difference? Lying flat is lying flat.
For a salted fish like her, as long as the bamboo pole was comfy and the sun was warm, anywhere was a good place to bask.
“Alright then, Grandpa. When will Second Uncle come get me?”
“I’m leaving this afternoon. He’ll come for you tonight after he finishes work.”
That evening, Chi Qian packed her suitcase and waited by the door for Second Uncle’s arrival.
A silver car pulled up, the window rolled down. “You’re Chi Qian? The old man told me to pick you up. You’ll be staying at my place for a few days.”
The way he spoke… Chi Qian couldn’t see anything “steady” about him.
And the man in the driver’s seat—he was wearing a prison-white outfit, a blood-stained rope hanging from his neck, and a head of wild, unruly hair.
He looked exactly like someone who had just been busted out of a dungeon in ancient times!
The way he looked at Chi Qian carried a faint appraisal… and a hint of disdain he thought he’d hidden well.
Chi Qian hesitated, then asked, “Excuse me, but this outfit…”
“Pretty cool, huh?”
“Uh… yes. Pure prison-core vibe,” she replied. More like a death-row convict on the run.
The man got out to load her suitcase into the trunk, then told her to hurry up and get in.
Thinking he was just in a rush, Chi Qian didn’t dwell on it. She climbed into the car, waving goodbye to the butler standing slack-jawed at the gate.
“Wait—Miss! He’s not—”
The man slammed his foot on the accelerator, leaving Butler Nan’s words far behind.
Chi Qian frowned. “Uncle Nan seemed like he wanted to say something just now?”
The man replied casually, “Oh, he wanted to tell you I’m not your second uncle.”
