Chapter 193: Moving the Vat
Living in the Secret Garden, Huai Yu had too many secrets.
Even though Zhou Qian had just sworn to keep her secrets and protect her safety, he was now overwhelmed by the unrelenting stream of secrets, leaving him dazed.
By the time he heard these words and looked at the enormous millet tree, he didn’t even have the energy to ask questions anymore.
It felt like every step was a secret, so how could he ask?
He could only turn into a cold, efficient moving machine, gripping the edge of the large pottery jar and rotating it in circles, easily moving it to the designated spot.
The large jar was placed under the millet tree, and in front of it, a huge, shiny water droplet formed in the center of a leaf and slowly slid down, falling into the jar with a “plop” sound.
Because the water kept dripping and slowly flowing back into the pond, the area around had become muddy. The large pottery jar sank into the ground, staying firmly in place.
Looking at the pond, the water had become increasingly clear due to the millet tree’s continuous purification.
Nearby, a few lotus leaves stood tall on the pond’s edge. The largest leaf was only as big as a basin, and since it was already May, there were still no buds.
Turning back, Zhou Qian saw the leaf that had dropped the water now bouncing back, and once again, a water droplet formed in the center…
He was so focused on watching that a leaf above him subtly lowered, and with a “plop” sound, water splashed on him!
Zhou Qian quickly dodged! But since his guard was lower here than in the wilderness, half of his arm got thoroughly soaked.
Fortunately, the weather was hot, and he had just finished working, so getting water on his arm didn’t matter much.
—No wonder Huai Yu described it as “mischievous,” it really is.
Looking at the leaves above, which had returned to their normal position, Zhou Qian stood there, and for some reason, all the concerns he had were now gone.
—Let there be more secrets, the more the better.
At this point, it seemed that the pile of secrets didn’t matter anymore.
With this thought, he found it much easier to work.
He turned and left the pond, dragging two small pottery jars to the edge of the shed, just waiting for Huai Yu to prepare before they could start pickling vegetables.
Then, Zhou Qian carefully walked behind the house and saw a large field of sunflowers, as well as the deep green bamboo forest in front.
From the front of the house, looking at the bamboo forest, only a corner could be seen, making it seem like the area wasn’t very large.
But when he stepped inside, he realized it covered about four to five acres!
The bamboo wasn’t densely packed, and sunlight streamed down through the sparse areas. On the edge, near the Rose Corridor, the bamboo even bent down to form a deep tunnel connecting to the corridor.
Zhou Qian remembered Huai Yu had said that the mutated bamboo had been dealt with by the Rose Corridor when it first arrived. He thought:
Could this be a new form of submission among mutated plants?
But since it was too close to the Rose Corridor, he didn’t dare go near, and so didn’t notice the rose vines entwined around the bent bamboo.
Even if he had noticed, what could he do? Would he dare point fingers at the Rose Corridor with his abilities?
Thinking this through, Zhou Qian suddenly felt relieved.
Instead, he was more interested in the talkative Kuang Biao. After walking a few steps along the bamboo forest, he cautiously asked: “Kuang Biao?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Kuang Biao had just been beaten and still had the marks on him, so he didn’t seem interested when he saw Zhou Qian.
“If you have something to say, say it. If not, you can go. If you’re really bored, come over and read poetry to my girlfriend.”
Zhou Qian: …
Since when did plants have boyfriends and girlfriends? And read poetry?
A few years later, would they need a university degree too?
Suppressing his thoughts, he politely said, “Huai Yu said for me to get some bamboo. She wants to build a rack.”
Only a few bamboo poles, and Kuang Biao didn’t care at all. He was too lazy to even show interest in seeing a stranger, speaking in a weak voice:
“A few bamboo poles? You can ask Big and Little Zai to pick them for you.”
Zhou Qian raised an eyebrow.
“Big Zai—Little Zai,” he raised his voice, trying to call out to the two goose chicks living in the bamboo forest.
Soon enough, two familiar-looking strange birds waddled out of the bamboo forest. Though Huai Yu insisted they were geese, Zhou Qian couldn’t find any resemblance to geese in them.
Moreover…
Now he understood why Huai Yu couldn’t tell them apart.
With his attention to detail, he stared at them for a while and couldn’t figure out what made them different.
One of them seemed a bit more familiar and hesitated before waddling over to him. But since he hadn’t been able to tell which one it was when they went to the hospital, Zhou Qian could only sigh and call again:
“Big Zai, Little Zai.”
The familiar Big Zai and Little Zai rubbed against his pants, making Zhou Qian flinch.
Because of the hole in the steel bedframe and the issue in the bathroom, he had to pay extra at the hospital.
Now, he was particularly wary of this “armor-breaking” mutation.
After a while, his pants were still intact, and Zhou Qian finally breathed a sigh of relief. He whispered, “Huai Yu said she needs a few bamboo poles. Can you…”
Before he finished speaking, the two geese rushed toward the bamboo!
They pecked at a few stalks, and three or five tall bamboo poles fell, quickly propped up by other bamboo, leaning at odd angles and dying fast.
Once the task was complete, Big Zai and Little Zai squawked and walked off with four little chicks to the other side of the bamboo forest.
Zhou Qian stood there, silent, his silence deafening.
When Huai Yu came back, panting with two baskets of vegetables, she saw Zhou Qian had already taken out the machete and was chopping off the branches from the bamboo.
“Fast!”
Huai Yu exclaimed, then asked, “Did Kuang Biao say anything strange to you? If he did, don’t mind it. His brain is a bit messed up.”
“No,” Zhou Qian looked at her strangely. “He’s pretty quiet. He does have a high literary achievement though, and wanted me to read poetry.”
Huai Yu: … “Quiet” and “Kuang Biao” do not go together!
“Literary achievement,” that’s out of place too!
As for reading poetry… maybe Zhou Qian misunderstood, it was probably his girlfriend who wanted him to read poetry!
Amazing! Kuang Biao’s brain is messed up!
Huai Yu became worried: Could it be that the Rose Corridor beat him too harshly at noon?
