Chapter 37: In the Hospital, Don’t Cover Your Head for No Reason
Hearing Fang Xiaocao’s words, Su Wanqing froze for a moment, blinked, then lay back down on the hospital bed.
“Oww~ My head is so dizzy~”
Su Wanqing groaned weakly.
“Heh~ The opponent has withdrawn a ‘ferocious dog pounce’ attack!”
Fang Xiaocao chuckled.
Hearing this, Su Wanqing turned her head and glared fiercely at Fang Xiaocao.
Fang Xiaocao blinked and pointed at the medical record on the bedside table.
Su Wanqing: …
“Fang Xiaocao, just you wait!”
Su Wanqing threatened viciously.
“Bleh bleh bleh~”
Fang Xiaocao stuck out her tongue playfully.
Fang Xiaocao’s smug behavior made Su Wanqing roll her eyes in frustration.
But there was nothing she could do—just earlier, the hospital director had specifically reminded them that the police would come by any time for statements, so they had to stay in bed and make their conditions look convincing.
Seeing Su Wanqing’s exasperated expression, Fang Xiaocao raised her eyebrows triumphantly.
She curled her fingers, gesturing at Su Wanqing provocatively.
“Come at me~”
Fang Xiaocao mimicked a cocky tone from a movie character.
Su Wanqing clenched her teeth so hard they almost cracked.
Seeing this, Fang Xiaocao smirked.
“Uh-oh, Husky’s getting mad.”
Realizing she might have taken it too far, Fang Xiaocao quickly raised her hands in surrender.
“Okay, okay, I surrender!”
She laughed.
“Hmph~”
Su Wanqing huffed arrogantly.
Click—
Just then, the hospital room door swung open.
Fang Xiaocao and Su Wanqing immediately lay down stiffly and pulled their blankets over their heads.
“Holy crap?”
“Did I walk into the wrong room?”
A man’s voice exclaimed in surprise at the doorway.
“Nurse! Nurse—”
The man called out loudly.
“Sir, this is the inpatient ward. Please keep your voice down,” a nurse’s disapproving voice came from outside.
“No, but… the people inside… why do they have their heads covered?”
The man stammered in confusion.
“What?”
The nurse’s voice suddenly grew louder.
Hurried footsteps followed.
A few people rushed into the room.
“Oh my gosh?”
“What’s going on? Xiao Li, check quickly!”
A woman’s anxious voice sounded.
The next second, Fang Xiaocao’s blanket was yanked away.
She found herself staring directly into the eyes of a panicked nurse.
“Ahhh—!”
The nurse screamed in fright.
Fang Xiaocao blinked.
“Uh-oh… I think I messed up…”
She thought to herself.
“Whew—”
“Scared me to death…”
The nurse let out a deep breath, patting her chest.
“Don’t cover your head with a blanket for no reason! That’s terrifying.”
The nurse scolded.
Fang Xiaocao stuck out her tongue sheepishly and smiled apologetically.
“You sure know how to mess around…”
A familiar voice suddenly chimed in from the side.
Fang Xiaocao turned her head—
It was Wang Qiang!
No wonder the earlier shout sounded familiar—it was him.
“Hehe, Officer Wang!”
“Did I scare you?”
Fang Xiaocao asked with an embarrassed smile.
“You really did.”
Wang Qiang shook his head with a wry smile.
“I thought something went wrong with your condition and you… you know.”
Wang Qiang laughed helplessly.
“How are you feeling?”
He asked, sitting down.
“Not too bad, just some stomach pain.”
“The doctor suspects internal bleeding and suggested I stay for observation.”
Fang Xiaocao answered just as the hospital director had instructed.
“Then rest well and cooperate with treatment. The costs will be covered by Shen Tao’s KTV. Let’s go over your statement.”
Wang Qiang took out his notebook.
“Alright!”
Fang Xiaocao nodded and smiled.
She recounted the entire incident to Wang Qiang but left out the part about Hot Noodles’ warning. Instead, she claimed she noticed the suspicious activity through video footage and reported it in advance.
To support her statement, she even sent him the chat records and video evidence.
Wang Qiang nodded and saved the files.
“Okay, rest now.”
“I’ll get statements from the others.”
Wang Qiang moved over to Su Wanqing’s bedside.
“How are you feeling?”
He asked with a smile.
“Aiya~ Officer Wang, my head is spinning~”
“The doctor said it’s a concussion~”
Su Wanqing, fully embracing her inner drama queen, responded weakly.
“Can you still give a statement?”
Wang Qiang frowned.
“I can~”
Su Wanqing answered.
Then, in a dramatically exaggerated fashion, she recounted how Han Xue tricked them into coming to the KTV, forced them to drink, and how they later found Wen Shi drugged. She even amped up the details about Han Xue’s threats and the security guards’ violence.
Wang Qiang took careful notes before turning to Yun Luoshu.
“Young lady, how’s your injury?”
Wang Qiang asked.
“Concussion, multiple bruises from beatings, and a fractured rib.”
Yun Luoshu responded softly.
“Hmm, you’re the most seriously injured.”
Wang Qiang nodded.
“Can you give a statement?”
“Yes.”
Yun Luoshu nodded.
Her statement was similar to Su Wanqing’s but included more details about how she was beaten twice by the security guards.
“Alright, all statements are done.”
“Rest well. I’ll be leaving now.”
Wang Qiang put away his notebook and stood up.
“Officer Wang, what about Wen Shi’s statement?”
Su Wanqing asked.
“We’ll take it later.”
“She doesn’t seem like she’ll wake up anytime soon, and she might not even know what happened.”
Wang Qiang smiled.
“With the three of your statements, it’s enough.”
With that, Wang Qiang waved at Fang Xiaocao and walked out of the ward.
“Whoo—”
After he left, the three girls let out a simultaneous sigh of relief.
“I’m hungry. Should we order some skewers?”
Su Wanqing suggested.
Fang Xiaocao rolled her eyes.
“We’re hospital patients, okay?”
“How can we eat greasy food?”
She said helplessly.
“Pfft, what ‘patients’? Other than Luoshu’s minor injuries, the three of us are completely fine.”
Su Wanqing pouted.
Fang Xiaocao had no rebuttal.
“I’m ordering delivery~”
Su Wanqing sat cross-legged on her bed and pulled out her phone.
Ding dong!
Moments later, Fang Xiaocao’s phone rang.
She glanced at the screen and froze.
“Su Wanqing, you’ve gone too far!”
“If you’re ordering takeout, why am I the one paying?!”
Seeing the “Friend Payment Request” notification, Fang Xiaocao shouted.
“Can’t help it—you’re the rich one!”
Su Wanqing shrugged with an innocent grin.
Fang Xiaocao was speechless.
She had to admit—
Their dorm actually had this rule:
Whoever had more money paid for meals.
Back when they lived in the dorms, she had never spent a dime on takeout.
It was always Su Wanqing and Yun Luoshu taking turns treating her.
“Fine…”
Fang Xiaocao reluctantly agreed and prepared to pay.
But the next second, she froze.
