Chapter 138: Taotie
Hotel Room 518.
“Beep… Beep…”
The phone rang twice before it was answered.
“Who is this?”
A lazy voice came through the receiver—it was Capricorn.
“Give me the phone!”
The middle-aged man snatched the device.
“Capricorn, it’s Taotie.”
His voice was deep and serious.
“Oh?”
“Is the job done?”
Capricorn asked with a smirk.
“The job?”
“You still dare mention the mission to me?”
Taotie’s eyes burned with fury as he roared.
“Oh~”
“Who ticked you off, Taotie?”
“Why are you so angry?”
Capricorn’s voice remained lighthearted, her tone unhurried, even in the face of Taotie’s rage.
“Don’t tell me… you failed?”
Her voice suddenly turned icy.
“Who else would dare set me up besides you?”
Taotie sneered, utterly unfazed by Capricorn’s implied threat.
Clearly, unlike most who feared Capricorn, this middle-aged man had no trace of intimidation—only raw anger.
This alone showed that on the Blacklist, Taotie’s status was no lower than Capricorn’s.
Of course, in an organization of assassins, status alone was meaningless. Only strength mattered.
If Taotie didn’t have power matching Capricorn’s, he would never have dared to speak so brazenly.
He might look like an average middle-aged man, but the violent glint in his eyes showed his true nature—he was a savage beast at heart.
“Taotie, don’t take your frustration out on me.”
“Watch your mouth, or I’ll have to castrate you.”
Capricorn snapped back, clearly not one to tolerate disrespect. She had built her fearsome reputation on ruthlessness, and there was no way she would let Taotie talk down to her without retaliation.
If they weren’t miles apart, Capricorn would’ve already made a move.
Taotie bellowed, “Cut the crap!”
“Answer me!”
“What kind of intelligence are you people running?”
“This hotel is swarming with cops! Did you send me here to die?”
His voice dripped with murderous intent.
“What?”
“There are cops in the hotel?”
Capricorn was stunned.
“You expect me to operate right under their noses? You trying to get me killed?”
Taotie’s sneer deepened.
“I didn’t know the cops were there. Get out for now. There’ll be other chances to take her out.”
Capricorn’s tone softened.
“Getting out isn’t an option.”
“Leaving now would only draw more attention.”
“Find out why the cops are here. I’ll wait for an opening.”
“You stay ready to cover me.”
Since Capricorn had backed down, Taotie reined in his temper and regained his composure.
“Alright. I’ll check with the intel team.”
With that, Capricorn ended the call.
The Black Van
Capricorn’s face darkened.
After hanging up, she stood and walked over to a man in a black suit, her gaze ice-cold.
“Capricorn, something wrong?”
The suited man, busy at his laptop, looked up in confusion.
“There are cops in the hotel.”
“Why wasn’t this reported?”
Capricorn’s voice was sharp and accusing.
“Cops?”
The man blinked in surprise.
“I didn’t receive any intel on that.”
He shrugged.
Capricorn’s eyes narrowed dangerously. A cold glint flashed through them.
“You didn’t know?”
“I really didn’t. The reports didn’t mention anything about police.”
He answered nonchalantly, as if it were a matter of course.
“Six-Ears, you’re the head of the intel team. Is this how you do your job?”
Capricorn’s tone was frigid.
“This is normal, isn’t it?”
“We handle so much intel every day—I can’t possibly verify every single detail.”
Six-Ears responded with an air of indifference.
“Oh?”
“So you’re saying your job is tough?”
Capricorn’s voice was laced with sarcasm.
“Of course. It’s exhausting.”
Six-Ears chuckled, going along with the act.
Capricorn sneered.
The next second, he reached out, caressing Six-Ears’ face with delicate fingers.
“You work so hard… should I reward you?”
Capricorn’s voice turned seductive, his eyes smoldering.
Caught off guard by the sudden shift, Six-Ears looked flattered, his expression turning into a foolish grin.
“Really?”
Capricorn giggled.
“Of course…”
Her fingers trailed down from Six-Ears’ face to his chin.
Six-Ears’ eyes lit up in excitement. His gaze lingered on Capricorn’s figure as he swallowed hard.
“Not a chance.”
Before the words even fully left her lips, Capricorn’s expression twisted into icy cruelty.
The fingers on Six-Ears’ chin turned into a claw—clamping around his throat.
Crack!
The sound of breaking bones echoed in the van.
Six-Ears’ foolish grin froze.
His eyes lost their light.
His head tilted lifelessly to the side. A trickle of blood ran from the corner of his lips, staining his white shirt beneath the black suit.
“Trash.”
Capricorn pulled back her hand and wiped her fingers with a wet tissue. Then, without a second glance, she balled up the tissue and tossed it onto Six-Ears’ lifeless face.
“Drive.”
“Find a place to dump the body.”
She stretched lazily, a smile curling on her lips as if nothing had happened.
Before she even finished speaking, the van started moving.
Capricorn pulled out her phone and dialed Taotie’s secretary.
“Hello?”
Taotie’s voice came through the receiver.
“The intel team failed. Six-Ears was incompetent.”
“I handled it.”
Capricorn spoke casually, as if she had just disposed of a piece of trash rather than a human life.
“Hah…”
“No surprise there.”
“I like the way you handle things.”
Taotie’s chuckle echoed through the phone.
“Forget this job.”
“We’ll get revenge for Gemini another time.”
Capricorn said indifferently.
“I’ll see if an opportunity presents itself. If there’s a chance, I’ll kill the target.”
“If not, I’ll let it go for now.”
“Anyone who messes with Blacklist deserves to meet the King of Hell.”
Taotie’s voice was filled with murderous intent.
“Suit yourself.”
Capricorn said nonchalantly and ended the call.
Hotel Surveillance Room
“Wait a minute!”
“That silhouette…”
Staring at the security footage, Song Lin’s eyes suddenly widened.
