Chapter 184: House Arrest—The Lock Smashed
Nan Xun was back in the familiar villa again.
When he woke up, Yan Luo was standing right in front of him, looking down at him from above. His expression was icy, his eyes bloodshot, red veins filling them.
Little Eight suddenly chimed in, “My dear, good luck to you. The big boss has been staring at your head for a full half hour now—hasn’t even blinked once.”
Nan Xun swallowed. “Little Eight, are you sure he’s just staring at my head, and not my pleasingly handsome face?”
Little Eight: “You’re not some great beauty—you’re a damn man. Would staring at your face help him vent his anger?”
Nan Xun looked at the man in front of him and, lacking confidence, called out softly, “Brother…”
“Xiao Bai, I’ll ask you just one thing.” Yan Luo’s voice was low, restrained anger seeping through it. “Were you really an undercover sent by the police?”
Nan Xun hurried to explain. “Brother, it’s like this—back then I was just forced—”
Yan Luo cut him off coldly. “Just answer yes, or no.”
Nan Xun opened his mouth, hesitated, then nodded with difficulty. “More or less… yes.”
At those words, Yan Luo’s already bloodshot eyes turned even redder—terrifying to look at.
He swung a fist toward Nan Xun, but just as it was about to smash into that face, his punch veered sharply and slammed into the sofa’s backrest beside him instead.
Bang.
Nan Xun clearly felt the sofa cave in deeply, the impact sending a vibration through the surrounding air.
Yan Luo abruptly yanked him up from the sofa and dragged him straight out.
Nan Xun was shoved roughly into the car, and then they drove off.
Nan Xun tried to explain, “Brother, I really didn’t want to hurt you. Being an undercover—I had no choice. If I hadn’t done it, I would’ve died.”
Yan Luo clearly didn’t want to hear it. His thin lips were pressed tight, his gaze icy.
So Nan Xun fell silent, fear creeping into his heart.
Little Eight was even more scared than he was. “Where do you think the big boss is taking you? He’s not going to find some place to chop you up into pieces, is he?”
Nan Xun rolled his eyes. “The big boss went to all that trouble to kidnap me from a cop’s house just to dismember me? Little Eight, how did your brain even grow?” Then he muttered softly, “Besides… my brother wouldn’t have the heart.”
Little Eight snorted. “His darkening value is already at 100—he’s basically deranged. Any possibility exists. His malice value has only dropped to 50 so far. You really think you’re that important to him?”
Nan Xun pressed his lips together, stung by the words, but stubbornly argued back. “Maybe if you give me two more years, my brother’s malice value will drop to zero.”
Little Eight replied mercilessly, “Dreaming is faster.”
Yan Luo took Nan Xun to the basement of a casino and shoved him into an old, shabby little room underground. There was a bed and a table inside, and on the wall hung a small leather whip and several strange-looking torture tools—creepy as hell.
Nan Xun: “…”
“Brother,” Nan Xun called pitifully.
Yan Luo looked at him quietly. “Xiao Bai, even now, I still can’t bear to hurt you.”
“Brother, whether you believe it or not, I never once thought about harming you. I really do like you.” Nan Xun’s eyes burned with soreness. Seeing Yan Luo like this, his first feeling wasn’t fear—but heartache.
What the hell—he was actually feeling sorry for someone else, and admitting it so straightforwardly!
As always, Yan Luo reached out and patted his head, gentle as ever. “Xiao Bai, stay here for now. I’ll come see you often.”
“Brother… have you forgiven me?” Nan Xun suddenly grabbed his hand, desperate to hear the answer from his own mouth.
Yan Luo avoided the question. After settling him in, he left.
Click.
Nan Xun heard the sound of the door being locked—the crisp ka-cha of an old-fashioned padlock snapping shut.
“Little Eight, I think I’ve been put under house arrest by the big boss.” After saying that, Nan Xun lay down on the bed. It was pretty soft—quite comfortable to sleep on.
Little Eight: “So exciting! The little dark room play is back again. Why didn’t he chain you up like Papa Li Chen did? Still, locking the door is pretty cool too!”
Nan Xun: “…”
“Little Eight, help me keep an eye on what the big boss has been up to lately.”
Little Eight cried out, “I can’t keep releasing my spiritual power to monitor the big boss—it drains my energy too much.”
Nan Xun said, “Then just check occasionally.”
Little Eight snorted proudly. “Fine.”
Over the next few days, Yan Luo came back to see Nan Xun every day. He brought fragrant, freshly cooked meals, and the two of them ate together face to face.
Nan Xun had the feeling that things were still the same as before—brotherly and harmonious. His brother hadn’t changed at all, still doted on him. But every time Yan Luo left, the sound of the lock snapping shut dragged him back to reality.
Yan Luo seemed unwilling to forgive him. He despised his identity as an undercover.
“Ji He’s identity has been exposed. He’s returned to being a cop and took two bullets—probably Yan Luo’s doing. While he was recovering in the hospital, Yan Luo’s men nearly killed him.”
Nan Xun patted his flat chest. “My brother’s men are really brutal.”
Little Eight said, “They say a dog reflects its master. Crude words, but true. The big boss hates traitors this much—of course his brothers do too. And Ji He’s not just a traitor, he’s a police undercover. With their personalities, they’ll definitely take double revenge. Mm—and that includes you.”
As soon as Little Eight finished speaking, the sound of something heavy smashing against the door came from outside.
It went on for quite a while, and Nan Xun’s heart pounded along with it.
Little Eight immediately said, “It’s not Yan Luo—it’s that thug from last time, the one called A Hei.”
Finally, the lock outside was smashed open. The door was kicked in, and Nan Xun saw A Hei standing in the doorway—the same man who’d once worked with them to rescue Yan Man from the Green Tiger Gang’s territory.
A Hei’s expression told Nan Xun that he hadn’t come with good intentions. So when A Hei reached out to grab him, Nan Xun quickly dodged to the side.
A Hei sneered. The next second, he pulled out a gun from his waist, the dark muzzle aimed straight at him.
Nan Xun froze instantly. A Hei grabbed him by the neck and dragged him outside.
“You little bastard. I thought you were damn righteous for charging alone into Green Tiger Gang territory to save Yan Man. Now I know it was all just a trick to gain Lord Yan’s trust! Do you know how many of our brothers were arrested by the police? How many were shot dead on the spot? Even cutting you into a thousand pieces wouldn’t vent my hatred!”
A Hei tied Nan Xun onto a black car. Inside, Nan Xun saw three familiar faces—all of them Yan Luo’s subordinates. Every one of them stared at Nan Xun with loathing, wishing they could pull out knives and hack him to death on the spot.
“It’s over, Little Eight. I’m finished today.”
Little Eight sighed. “The big boss is holding a major meeting with the other brothers right now. He definitely won’t make it in time.”
Nan Xun: “Heaven wants me dead.”
Little Eight: “…”
Damn it—at a time like this and he’s still acting.
