Chapter 148: But Why the Hell Should I Listen to You
“Kid, you’ve even pissed off the King of Hell. You’re going to be in deep trouble from now on. Right now, I’m the only one who can cover for you. Come on—crawl through this hole, and I’ll take you back to my cell and explain the rules of the place properly,” the scar-faced man said gruffly. His narrow eyes stared straight at Nan Xun, circling over those long, straight legs.
Nan Xun felt extremely uncomfortable under his gaze and didn’t want to beat around the bush. He said irritably, “But why should I listen to you?”
Hearing this, Scarface’s expression instantly darkened. “Kid, don’t push your luck. I already spared you the first initiation step—don’t go too far!”
“No, I’m asking you very seriously,” the youth said, tilting his head slightly as he looked at him. His pitch-black, bright eyes were full of genuine confusion. “Why should I listen to you?”
Scarface swallowed, then patiently explained, “I’m the second-in-command here. Whatever I say, you do. If you don’t, I’ll beat you to death!”
That wasn’t an exaggeration. Everyone locked up here was a vicious felon serving a heavy sentence. This world didn’t have the death penalty, so as long as someone wasn’t killed right in front of the guards, a few deaths every day were perfectly normal.
The guards were more than happy for the inmates to kill each other—it saved them food.
Nan Xun wasn’t frightened by his words. The corner of his mouth curved slightly. “So everyone listens to you because you’re the strongest?”
Scarface grinned. “Isn’t that obvious? Kid, I’ve only bothered explaining because you’ve got a pretty face. If you’ve got any sense, hurry up and continue the initiation. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless and destroying you, this newly crowned prison flower.”
As soon as the words “prison flower” came out, the onlookers upstairs burst into laughter.
In A Block, there was only one fate for a prison flower: to be toyed with. From Scarface, the second-in-command, to the third, fourth, and anyone else with that kind of taste, no prison flower ever escaped their abuse.
In Meihuan Prison, strength was king. The law was survival of the fittest. If you didn’t have the ability to fight back, the only outcome was to be bullied and humiliated.
This was the prison law.
Nan Xun suddenly raised a hand, pointed at Scarface across from him, and said with a smile, “If I beat you today, does that mean I won’t have to listen to you anymore?”
The moment those words fell, the area went silent—then erupted into deafening laughter.
“Hahaha… what did this little brat who hasn’t even grown all his hair say? Beat Brother Dao? Hahaha…”
“This is the best joke I’ve heard since coming to prison…”
“This kid is challenging Brother Dao’s authority. His face gave him a shortcut, but he doesn’t know what’s good for him. Well, this’ll be interesting…”
In fact, many newcomers before him had tried to challenge Scarface after suffering humiliation. Every single one of them had been beaten so badly they were unrecognizable—some unlucky ones were beaten to death on the spot.
Even when Scarface killed someone, no one dared point the finger at him when the guards questioned them. That was how he’d ruled arrogantly up to now.
Hearing the laughter, Scarface twisted his mouth and spat on the ground. The kid’s audacity infuriated him.
Nan Xun lifted his chin at him. “One-on-one. If you lose, you detour whenever you see me from now on.”
“Brat, if it weren’t for that pretty face of yours, I’d have knocked all your teeth out already! Since you’re asking for it, don’t blame me for being merciless!”
Nan Xun chuckled lightly, eyebrows raised. That wild, arrogant look was enough to make people grind their teeth in hatred.
“Brat, you’re asking to die!”
Scarface was completely enraged. He rolled up his sleeves and threw a punch straight at Nan Xun.
That fist was like it weighed a thousand pounds, whipping up a gust of wind as it came down. If it landed, Nan Xun would very likely be crippled on the spot.
Nan Xun’s eyes widened slightly. In a flash, his body shifted aside. As the punch brushed past him, he suddenly twisted the man’s arm, wrenching it a full three hundred and sixty degrees, then kicked him hard in the back.
Scarface let out a howl and stumbled forward. Seizing the moment, Nan Xun leaped up, his whole body seeming to soar through the air. His legs slammed straight into the back of Scarface’s head. Borrowing momentum, the kick was ferocious, sending the bulky man crashing face-first onto the concrete floor with a loud thud.
All of this happened in the blink of an eye. Before anyone could react, the tyrant of A Block—Scarface—had been knocked to the ground by an eighteen-year-old kid.
Instantly, the entire place fell dead silent. Everyone was dumbstruck.
Nan Xun knew he’d only succeeded because Scarface had underestimated him. Someone who’d ruled the prison for so many years was no easy opponent. He couldn’t give the man a chance to fight back—every move had to be lethal.
Thank goodness Su Mobai often played basketball and got into the occasional fight. This body was in decent shape; otherwise, Nan Xun would have had the techniques but not the strength to execute them properly.
That crash had left Scarface dizzy, barely knowing where he was.
When he finally came to, he lifted his head and saw the smear of blood on the ground. His eyes instantly turned red. “I’ll beat you to death!”
But before he could even finish speaking or get up, Nan Xun launched himself at him again, slamming into his back. He wrenched both of Scarface’s arms behind him, locking them down with his elbow, while his knees pinned the man’s legs.
Nan Xun grabbed Scarface by the hair, yanked up his heavy head, and smashed it straight into the concrete.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
After five or six impacts, a bloody crater had opened on Scarface’s forehead.
Nan Xun’s ferocity when he fought was terrifying. When he held back, he was fine—but thinking about how these were all vicious criminals who’d committed countless evils, and how this man had tried to humiliate him, he had no intention of restraining himself. That desperate, all-out ruthlessness poured forth completely.
Scarface realized that if he didn’t fight back now, he’d lose any chance of turning things around.
Suddenly, he let out a roar, veins bulging across his body. Nan Xun’s expression changed as he immediately increased the pressure.
But the next instant, he felt the brute strength of a raging bull.
Scarface flung him off. The tremendous force sent Nan Xun stumbling backward several steps.
Breaking free, Scarface sprang to his feet. Nan Xun had smashed his head into the ground multiple times, yet he stood there as if nothing were wrong. Aside from blood streaming down his face from his forehead, his body didn’t even sway.
Those narrow eyes were filled with savage, poisonous intent. At this point, he had only one thought left.
He wanted to kill this damn brat.
He wanted to smash his head open.
