Chapter 126: Worry—Let Me Share It for You
A trace of surprise flashed through Nan Xun’s eyes. She said to him, “Thank you, Prince Xian. Please trouble yourself to pass on a message for me—tell them that I am doing well here, and ask my grandfather and the others not to worry.”
Yan Moyu nodded and turned to leave.
After he was gone, Little Eight reminded her, “That slap you gave him just now dulled his feelings for you quite a bit. He’s a Child of Destiny after all—offending him like this might not be a good idea, right?”
Nan Xun didn’t care. “You can tell Prince Xian is a broad-minded person. He wouldn’t stoop to holding a grudge against someone like me.”
Little Eight: …
“Actually, I’m making a bet,” Nan Xun added.
Little Eight said nothing, waiting for her to continue.
“Do you really think that just because Yan Moyu has been given the title of Prince Xian that he’s truly virtuous? Anyone who accomplishes great things is decisive and ruthless, bold and cunning. A man who wants to seize the throne—there’s no way his hands are clean.”
Little Eight said, “I suddenly feel like I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
Nan Xun went inside, poured herself a cup of tea, and said leisurely, “He went to great lengths to seduce Qin Buyao—it’s true that he liked her, but there was a more important reason: he needed the Qin family’s power. Prince Xian should be a proud and ambitious man. I humiliated him just now and cut off that route. He probably won’t have the cheek to come and seduce me again—but do you think he’ll give up on the Qin family, this towering tree?”
Little Eight: “…Probably not.”
“So I’m thinking—could he bring himself to kill me? If killing me could stir up the Qin family’s hatred toward the emperor, then with me gone as a concern, Old General Qin could be won over with just a few sweet words, couldn’t he?”
Little Eight: !
“W-Would he really?” Little Eight was utterly shocked.
Nan Xun shrugged. “I don’t know either. So let’s just wait and see.”
“Aren’t you afraid he’ll actually get you killed?”
“Nope. Isn’t there a beast watching me every day now? With that big boss around, I feel especially safe.”
Little Eight was speechless.
That night, Yan Han didn’t come. Nan Xun guessed he was sulking, but there was no way he could hold it in for three days.
Sure enough—not even three days. On the very next night, Yan Han couldn’t resist and came.
When he arrived, he brought with him a very large bathtub—one with gold trim, no less.
Seeing the size of that tub, the corner of Nan Xun’s mouth twitched violently.
Without wasting words, Yan Han shoved the tub into Cui Huan’s hands, then hoisted Nan Xun over his shoulder and carried her inside.
Cui Huan understood immediately and went off to prepare hot water.
While Nan Xun was still dazed, her clothes had already been stripped off.
Yan Han pushed her onto a swing and sent it flying. The swing went too high—far too thrilling. Nan Xun screamed in fright, crying as she shouted.
After the rough play, the two of them lay under the covers chatting. Yan Han held her tightly in his arms. A sliver of light filtered through the bed curtains, reflecting in the man’s eyes so they gleamed like a beast’s pupils in the dark—ominous and fierce.
“Brother Han, what’s wrong with you today?” Nan Xun nestled obediently in his arms and asked softly.
“Nothing,” Yan Han replied flatly.
Nan Xun lightly scratched his chest with her fingertips and said considerately, “Brother Han, we’re husband and wife now. If you have something on your mind, I hope you can tell me. I may not be able to help you solve it, but I want to listen.”
“Yaoyao, do you really want to hear it?” Yan Han lightly nipped at her earlobe.
“Really. I want to share your worries.”
Yan Han paused, then said unhurriedly, “I have a younger brother. I treat him very well, but he covets what’s mine—and not just anything, but the two most important and precious things I have. Tell me—what should I do with him?”
“Are they really that precious?”
“Yes. So precious that if I lost those two things, I might die immediately. And he—my good little brother—knows exactly how important they are to me, yet he still wants to snatch them from my hands.”
Hearing this, Nan Xun immediately frowned. Even though she couldn’t see her own expression in the dark, her professional instinct didn’t slacken in the slightest. She said indignantly, “If that’s truly the case, then your brother is an ungrateful wretch. If he really threatens your life, don’t hold back—do what must be done. But since he is your own brother, to avoid criticism, just spare his life in the end.”
Yan Han suddenly stared at her intently. “Yaoyao, do you really think so?”
“Yes. He’s endangering your life. If he weren’t your brother, I’d want to kill him myself.”
Yan Han stared at her for a long moment, then suddenly rolled over and kissed her fiercely, and without warning started making pancakes again.
Nan Xun was thoroughly seared and passed out. In her hazy consciousness, Yan Han held her and bathed her—only for her to soon hear clanking sounds coming from within her own body.
Damn it—this beast!
This bathtub was seriously sturdy. It actually didn’t fall apart.
For several days in a row, this was how Nan Xun lived—miserable, pitiful, utterly tragic.
Little Eight spent all day shielding its five senses, only daring to peek at the outside world when Nan Xun took the initiative to call it.
“Damn it, why hasn’t Yan Moyu sent anyone to kill me yet? If this keeps up, I might as well just hang myself.”
Little Eight said, “Darling, is it really that painful? I think you look like you’re enjoying it.”
Nan Xun: “…I’m just afraid of kidney deficiency.”
“Huh? Isn’t that something men get easily? Did you say it backwards?”
Nan Xun: “There are too many pancake-making positions. My waist strength isn’t enough, so I need to nourish myself.”
Little Eight said, “I don’t understand. I’m a pure, innocent beast—I’ve never even dated a female beast.”
Nan Xun didn’t believe that for a second.
Perhaps because Nan Xun muttered about it every day, she finally got what she’d been waiting for—the long-anticipated assassin.
Yan Moyu had ultimately steeled his heart and decided to kill Qin Buyao.
In his eyes, women could always be found again, but an opportunity once missed would never return. He absolutely could not let the Qin family’s power slip away.
He loved Qin Buyao—but compared to the empire he had planned and schemed for over so many years, that love was insignificant.
If Nan Xun had left him even the slightest room for maneuver last time, he wouldn’t have resorted to such a ruthless move. He would have tried again to win her over. But Nan Xun’s attitude had been far too resolute—completely cutting off his attempt to use Qin Buyao to draw in the Qin family.
In the eyes of outsiders, ever since Beauty Qin was sent to the Cold Palace, the emperor had never once set foot there. So killing Beauty Qin in the Cold Palace would be an easy task.
Late at night, after two fierce rounds of demon fighting had just played out in Chimu Palace, Nan Xun was exhausted and asleep. Her face was pressed close to Yan Han’s, one arm hooked around his neck, her long legs draped over his waist—completely at his mercy.
Yan Han took a deep breath. He wasn’t sleepy at all. He stared fixedly at the woman’s face, carefully and meticulously tracing every feature.
He didn’t know how long he looked. When he finally seemed to have had enough, he slowly closed his eyes—only to snap them open again at the sound from outside the hall, killing intent surging in his gaze.
Someone was there.
And not just one.
