Chapter 23: Only Five Left
Wang Xuming picked up Bai Cha from the ground and walked past the front desk again.
Bai Cha’s eyes met his.
She didn’t know if it was an illusion, but she seemed to see the front desk staff smile.
But that smile was definitely not friendly.
Bai Cha could feel the endless malice hidden in that smile.
But she also didn’t care much and withdrew her gaze.
After all, she also wanted to kill the front desk staff.
“Bai Cha? What’s wrong?” Xiao Xiao’s voice came from the stairs. She came downstairs with a pale face and rushed forward anxiously when she saw Bai Cha.

A strange sound outside the window was bewitching her, almost making her pull open the curtains.

The last part was said to Bai Cha.
Bai Cha motioned for him to put her on the sofa. After resting for a while, she asked two questions.
“How did your roommate die? Did you see your own body when you woke up?”
The first question was for Wang Xuming, and the second was for everyone.

Because they were clear that Brother Cai had most likely died at her hands, although they didn’t know how she did it, the ponytail girl and the man with glasses had already changed their views of her.

Although it might trigger a death rule, the thing about rules was that if you didn’t trigger any of them and only followed them, it was also possible that you were following a certain death rule.

“What about outside the window?” Xiao Xiao asked. “I heard a sound outside the window and almost pulled open the curtains. If I had, I can’t imagine what would have happened. Maybe I would have died too.”
“Yes, if you open the curtains and make eye contact with something outside, you will definitely die. That’s how my roommate died,” Wang Xuming finally spoke from the side, also answering Bai Cha’s earlier question.
“We didn’t hear any sound outside the window,” the ponytail girl said, shaking her head.
Everyone looked thoughtful.
“Then that corresponds to two rules,” Bai Cha coughed a few times and said weakly.

“There are a few possibilities. Possibility one, we followed the guest-house’s rule and didn’t disturb anyone. But we violated a death rule, which caused something outside the window to call us.”

“Possibility two, we followed the guest-house’s rule and didn’t trigger any death conditions. But the front desk’s rule required us to contact the front desk immediately to deal with it, and we didn’t follow it, so we violated a rule.”
“The second scenario doesn’t make sense,” Xiao Xiao said. “If it were the second one, then the speed at which that sound appeared was too fast. There wouldn’t have been time to contact the front desk at all.”
Bai Cha gave her an encouraging look but said, “It’s also possible that it was because we didn’t get up immediately to call but looked around the room first.”
Xiao Xiao nodded.
“There is that possibility… but the two of them woke each other up and nothing happened. Although they were clung to by those ghosts, the ghosts weren’t difficult to deal with, were they?”
The ponytail girl nodded. The ghosts’ strength was indeed not that strong, not enough to be fatal.
“So we can summarize the rule about the sound: following it will lead to death. If we stay overnight again tomorrow, we need to wake up the person next to us,” the man with glasses said.
Bai Cha quietly listened to their summary from the side.
Noticing Wang Xuming’s gaze on her, Bai Cha gave him a friendly smile.

It looked like a group of players were gathered here discussing a rule, but it was actually Bai Cha deliberately guiding them.
