Chapter 92: Snarky Sarcastic Narration
As expected, just as Xu Zhi had anticipated, the little aberration had become addicted to absorbing energy.
It was Zhen and Yi who had forcibly pulled it out from Yu Shenwei’s chest.
During the forceful extraction, it resisted violently, tearing a brutal hole in Yu Shenwei’s chest in the process. But under the red light, the gruesome wound healed rapidly.
Xu Zhi was quite surprised by this sight. That self-healing speed was way too fast. Was it due to the red light?
Or had Yu Shenwei gained this rapid regeneration ability herself after undergoing the ritual?
If it were the latter, that would be pretty impressive.
She already had an extraordinary ability that made her hard to kill, and now with fast regeneration, even if her attack power wasn’t strong, she could wear her enemies down to death.
Just as Gouzi and Yi finished dragging the little aberration out, the ritual’s red light suddenly vanished.
Yu Shenwei collapsed slowly from above to the ground, unconscious.
The little aberration, completely drunk on energy, tried crawling stubbornly toward the unconscious Yu Shenwei, even while being pinned to the ground by Yi.
Seeing this, Xu Zhi walked forward while pulling up the little aberration’s status panel — sure enough, a glaring status showed up: [Restlessness Lv5].
On top of that, it had somehow jumped to Level 29, now topping the hierarchy of all Familiars.
[Familiar: Aberration Lv29
Mind: 75
Body: 9000
Attribute: Cup
Traits: Bloodlust Lv9, Stealth Lv8, Agility Lv8, Strength Lv9, Pain Tolerance Lv9, Restlessness Lv5, Evolution Lv4, Growth Lv3
Special Ability: Parasitic Seed]
Its stats were truly luxurious — well, except for Mind.
“What the hell?”
Xu Zhi gritted her teeth. “Level 29! And its mental strength is still lower than someone at Level 1?”
But judging by its physical stats and other traits, Xu Zhi figured that once it broke through Level 30, its traits would likely max out to Level 10, and its Body would surpass ten thousand.
Level 30 clearly marked another milestone. Who knew what surprise would come then?
Xu Zhi had a gut feeling: reaching Level 30 would grant the retainer something even she hadn’t anticipated.
After checking its stats, she pulled a few [Lamp]-attribute cores from her inventory and held them in her palm as she walked to the basketball court.
Yu Shenwei was still unconscious, while the aberration thrashed about, trying to escape Yi’s grip.
Xu Zhi looked at it with some frustration. “Look at you… tsk.”
Despite her annoyed tone, she deftly sliced her palm open, letting blood mix with the [Lamp] cores before holding it in front of the aberration.
Instantly, Yu Shenwei, lying not far away, lost all appeal.
The little aberration lunged forward and gobbled the blood and cores down in one big bite. Xu Zhi didn’t coddle it and immediately pulled her hand back.
The frenzied aberration twisted about in dissatisfaction, but Xu Zhi just clicked her tongue and ignored it, turning toward Yu Shenwei instead.
She held up her game device. “So how is she?”
Narration:
[…]
[How should I know?!]
[You pull off crazy stunts like this and only think to ask me after the fact? Maybe try consulting me before blowing things up next time!]
The tone was full of resentment.
Clearly, even the narrator was shocked by Xu Zhi’s antics.
Even knowing this person never played by the rules, she still managed to catch it off guard with her sheer chaos.
Xu Zhi responded cheerily, “Why are you acting like I betrayed you? Come on, it was just a whim!”
“It’s not like I planned some elaborate scheme. I was just messing around. No need to blow things out of proportion, right?”
She tried to placate the narrator, but it didn’t work in the slightest.
[Oh? Then why are you asking me now?]
[Wasn’t it just some random whim? If you’re so chill about it, why not be chill about the consequences too?]
Despite the sarcastic tone, the narrator paused and still gave its assessment:
[She’s not dead, and she probably acquired some abilities of the Archbishop — but not all of them. The ritual’s power output was too low, and her heart remained inside her body rather than being used as an offering. There were too many shortcomings; it’s impossible for her to become a true Archbishop.]
[At most, she’s a reserve candidate.]
[That said, her strength has definitely increased significantly — but I can’t say more for sure. After all, I’ve never seen something like this either!]
There had never been such a slapdash Archbishop ascension ritual before — and with the candidate being the sacrificial saint herself. The ritual was incomplete, the offering insufficient, and even part of the energy got hijacked!
It was a complete mess, and the worst part? There was no one to complain to.
As a result, Xu Zhi had essentially created a version of Yu Shenwei that even the narrator couldn’t define.
“Got it.” Xu Zhi smiled brightly. The narrator talked big, but in the end, it still delivered.
She crouched down and checked Yu Shenwei’s breath — faint, but still there.
Then she called Gouzi over and had him carry her on his back. Yi had already released the aberration, which was now too weak to chase after blood or energy. Due to the conflict with the [Lamp] attribute, it was writhing in pain on the ground.
Xu Zhi sighed and told Yi, “Bring it too. We’re heading home.”
The little monster that had once clung to her leg — a product of the Parasitic Seed — ran to the aberration’s side and merged back into its body. After merging, the aberration’s evolution points increased slightly, though not by much.
The [Cup]-attribute cores they harvested this time weren’t many. Most of the cultists had died during the ritual, and what remained of them was just clothing — no cores.
So the only cores they got were from the cultists they’d killed earlier — including Huo Ze.
It was unclear when Yu Shenwei would regain consciousness. Until then, Xu Zhi had no plans to send her spiritual body back into the outside world. Once Yu Shenwei woke up, she might be able to provide more information. Who knew — maybe Xu Zhi could even swindle something out of the outside world using that.
And so, Xu Zhi, her Familiars, and the unconscious Yu Shenwei began their journey back to the residential zone.
Unlike before, she didn’t have to worry about survivors nearby. Plus, thanks to her excellent memory, she no longer needed a map to retrace the path — the return trip was smooth and easy.
While it had taken her over a month to travel through the entire Third Ring, the way back took less than a week.
During this time, Yu Shenwei never woke up, but Xu Zhi found she no longer needed to feed her blood or attribute cores to keep her alive.
That was a relief. Honestly, Xu Zhi was getting really sick of the blood-feeding thing!
Her blood wasn’t some miracle potion, after all!
Still, it seemed that Yu Shenwei had definitely gained something from the ritual.
As for what exactly… well, they’d have to wait until she woke up.
Hopefully, the saint wouldn’t wake up and immediately turn on them.
