Chapter 417: Heavy Blow
Dang Weiran wore a grim expression all morning.
He hadn’t slept well, hadn’t rested properly, and his body felt sticky and uncomfortable. On top of that, being framed by Su Tao left him in a dilemma without a solution in sight. His mood was at rock bottom, and he found everyone annoying.
So, when he arrived at the training ground, he doubled the intensity of every exercise, pushing the soldiers to their limits.
What irritated him even more was that during the break, he felt thirsty. Normally, his two lackeys would eagerly bring him water and say flattering words. Today, he desperately needed some compliments to lift his spirits.
But today, those two were like lifeless logs—greeting him stiffly and taking his scolding in silence. There wasn’t a trace of their usual bootlicking.
He hinted three times, but they still didn’t react. The anger boiling in his chest nearly made him spit on their faces.
Suppressing his fury, he assumed they were holding a grudge over not getting any weapons the other day.
So, Party Weiran called them over and, in a rare gesture, offered to give each of them a crystal-energy gun.
If he distributed the guns, they couldn’t accuse him of theft, right? Besides, he was sure they’d accept—who wouldn’t want a crystal-energy gun?
In Changjing, soldiers of their rank wouldn’t even get to touch one. Sharing these guns should make them grateful.
But to his shock, the two exchanged a glance, took a step back, and said righteously:
“Commander, as much as we’d like them, we won’t take stolen goods.”
After all, Su Tao had already given each of them a crystal-energy gun the night before—with an endless supply of crystal cores too!
Following Su Tao promised better perks than sticking with Dang Weiran. Only an idiot would still cling to him now.
Dang Weiran’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You don’t want them?!”
“No, sir. We won’t touch stolen property. You should return them as soon as possible. Boss Su is kind, but if she wanted, she could’ve reported you to Changjing and stripped you of your rank overnight. She’s giving you a chance—you should take it.”
With that, the two turned and ran.
Sure, they had Su Tao backing them now and felt bolder, but they still didn’t want to risk getting beaten up—Dang Weiran’s temper was notorious.
Dang Weiran’s hands trembled with rage, his head buzzing.
Su Tao was giving him a chance?!
No—she was forcing him to submit!
There was no way he’d bow down!
The more he thought about it, the angrier and more shocked he became. What kind of trick had Su Tao pulled to turn everyone against him overnight?
She must’ve offered them some dirty, under-the-table benefits!
Those spineless traitors—flocking to whoever gave them the most!
With no other outlet for his fury, Dang Weiran stalked the training ground, determined to vent his anger on the soldiers.
But the soldiers, sensing his mood, were extra cautious. Not a single one made a major mistake all morning, leaving him even more frustrated.
Finally, around noon, he found his target.
His sharp gaze landed on a young soldier from the third squad, who seemed to be whispering something to his comrades before sneaking off to the restroom.
Trusting his instincts, Dang Weiran followed.
Hidden in a stall, he listened carefully.
“There are three left—split them among yourselves. And make sure to flush the wrappers, but not all at once, or the pipes will clog again. That almost got us busted last time.”
Party Weiran’s eyes narrowed. They’re sneaking food!
Just as he was about to burst in and catch them red-handed, he heard more.
“Okay, but I want to keep one wrapper. Teach me how to fold a paper crane—I want to give a few to Boss Su. I heard she keeps the ones you made on her desk and looks at them every day.”
“Yeah, me too! Let’s save the wrappers and fold some more. Teach us!”
The young soldier agreed but warned:
“Be careful. If Commander Dang finds out Boss Su is giving us treats, he’ll definitely cause trouble for her—”
Before the words finished, Dang Weiran kicked the stall door open.
The soldiers froze in terror, blood draining from their faces.
Without a word, Dang Weiran grabbed the young soldier by the collar and dragged him back to the training ground. In front of everyone, he punched the soldier, breaking his nose with a sickening crack.
Blood gushed out instantly, and the soldier—caught off guard—was too stunned to resist.
Blinded by rage, Dang Weiran didn’t stop after one punch. He kept beating the soldier until the third squad’s captain rushed in and tackled him from behind.
The two wrestled fiercely.
Other officers and soldiers gathered, supposedly to break up the fight—but most took the opportunity to land a sneaky punch or kick at Dang Weiran.
Amid the chaos, someone suddenly shouted:
“Boss Su is here!”
In an instant, everyone scattered and returned to their training, acting as if nothing had happened.
Meng Xiaobo and Xu Qi restrained Dang Weiran, who now looked disheveled and humiliated.
As Su Tao approached, cracking her knuckles, Dang Weiran sneered through his pain:
“I’m disciplining my soldiers—what business is it of yours? Are you going to hit me—”
Before he could finish, Su Tao delivered a powerful punch right to his face.
A second-tier ability user’s full-force punch was no joke.
Even though she was a psychic-type, it was enough to make a first-tier ability user like Dang Weiran see stars.
He let out a scream and collapsed to the ground, clutching his broken nose.
Su Tao turned to the watching soldiers and waved her hand.
“Get back to your duties. Squad leaders, resume training. And this afternoon, everyone gets an all-you-can-eat buffet at the cafeteria!”
A deafening cheer erupted from the soldiers.
Dang Weiran wanted to say something, but the pain was too overwhelming—he couldn’t get a word out.
