Chapter 87: Could This Be the World of Smart People?
After tidying up, the two of them headed to the Lin residence. Xu’s father and mother didn’t go; only Xu Nian accompanied them.
When the three arrived and got out of the car, walking toward the main gate, the butler froze briefly when he saw Lin Yuejiu. “Mi…Miss Lin…”
Lin Yuejiu didn’t act awkward and smiled politely at him. “Hello.”
They handed over their invitations. The butler allowed them inside. Upon entering, they saw many classmates, all waving and greeting her. Chen Qianxi hurried over: “Yuejiu, you look so beautiful today!”
“Not really, I’m not the main character,” Lin Yuejiu replied modestly.
“Hello, Study-God Xu.”
Xu Nian gave a nod in greeting.
Chen Qianxi then looked at the person beside them. “And this is?”
“This is Xu Nian’s older brother,” Lin Yuejiu explained.
Xu Nian looked at her. “Hello, my name is Xu Nian. I’m his brother. You can call me ‘brother’ too.”
Since Lin Yuejiu had mentioned this person as a good friend, it was fine for Chen Qianxi to call him brother.
“Hello, Brother Xu,” Chen Qianxi said obediently, sneaking a glance at him.
Xu Nian raised an eyebrow. “What’s the matter?”
“Nothing,” Chen Qianxi quickly shook her head. “I just think you look a lot like Study-God Xu.”
Both of them looked at each other. “Where?!”
Chen Qianxi was left speechless. How could they respond like that?
Lin Yuejiu pulled Chen Qianxi close. “Ignore them, they just don’t get along.”
“Huh?”
“It’s true. Don’t pay attention to them; be careful, they might start arguing.”
“Oh, okay,” Chen Qianxi nodded. Her eyes casually scanned their outfits and noticed that Lin Yuejiu and Xu Nian were both wearing cream-colored clothes. Something felt off. “Yuejiu, you and Study-God Xu’s clothes…”
Lin Yuejiu glanced back, feeling a headache coming on but remained composed. “Coincidence.”
“Really?” Chen Qianxi still felt suspicious.
“It really is. Don’t overthink it.”
Seeing Chen Qianxi still pondering, Lin Yuejiu quickly changed the topic. “Hey, I’m hungry. Do you know where we can eat?”
Chen Qianxi’s attention was immediately diverted. “I know! Over there. I’ll take you. I promise, although Lin Rumeng isn’t the best person, the food she arranged is really good.”
The two girls left, and the two boys, seeing no reason to argue further, followed them.
Most of the classmates from Class 2 of the second year were already gathered there. Seeing Chen Qianxi bringing Lin Yuejiu over, they waved and greeted her. Chen Qianxi even got a fresh piece of cake for her, since she had already eaten one.
At the party, everyone was shocked when they saw Lin Yuejiu.
“Isn’t that the fake heiress? How is she here? Does she even have the nerve to come?!”
“Wasn’t an invitation required to enter? Where did she get one?”
“Do you think the Lin family knows about this?”
“Lin grandfather—wouldn’t he be angry? After all, he’s famous for valuing bloodline.”
“Who knows? This party is intense. Both the real and fake heiresses are here.”
“The fake heiress must feel uncomfortable, right?”
“Why do you say that?”
“Think about it. This is the birthday of the true Lin heiress. The family values it greatly, everyone is here, and considering how the real family treated others before, wouldn’t she feel hurt?”
“True, and she’s still just a student.”
All the classmates from Class 2 watched Lin Yuejiu with complicated expressions.
“Goddess, don’t mind what they say. They just like making those kinds of jokes.”
Seeing them trying so hard to comfort her, Lin Yuejiu smiled. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I’ve already let it go; I’m not sad at all.”
Chen Qianxi immediately linked her arm with Lin Yuejiu’s. “Exactly! Yuejiu hasn’t cared about these things for a long time. Our Lin Goddess has been through so many hardships—there’s no way something like this can scare you now.”
“That’s true,” Lin Yuejiu agreed.
“And even if something happens, Goddess Lin, don’t be afraid. We’re here with you.”
“Yes, if anyone dares to bully you, we’ll help you deal with them.”
Lin Yuejiu smiled. “Thank you.” She scooped a little whipped cream with her spoon and tasted it. Sweet.
At that moment, Xu Nianshen and Xu Nian also came over, standing on either side of her. Xu Nianshen spoke softly to her: “Don’t be afraid.”
“I’m not,” Lin Yuejiu shook her head. “As long as you’re here, I’m not afraid.”
—
Lin Yuejiu’s father and mother were inside watching Lin Rumeng, and even Lin grandfather was there waiting. Lin Yimo stepped outside for some fresh air. His sharp eyes caught sight of Lin Yuejiu, chatting with Xu Nian, smiling, and somehow hearing the word “brother.”
Lin Yimo quickly looked away; he couldn’t bear to watch this scene.
Something felt off. Why was Lin Yuejiu here?
He hurried downstairs, greeting many familiar faces along the way with nods.
“Hey, the Lin young master went over to the fake heiress.”
“Could it be… to confront her?”
“Big brother, she’s just a girl. That seems unnecessary, right?”
Lin Yuejiu, noticing him, turned and met his gaze. Lin Yimo stopped just a step away. “Why are you here?”
Lin Yuejiu blinked. “Someone invited me.”
“Lin Rumeng?”
Hearing the name, Lin Yuejiu slightly raised her eyebrows and nodded.
Lin Yimo frowned. “Why would she invite you for no reason?”
Xu Nian stepped forward. “Yuejiu has an invitation.”
Seeing his defensive stance, Lin Yimo said, “I know. I’m not here to question her.”
Lin Yimo still felt uneasy about Lin Rumeng’s intentions. He said to Lin Yuejiu, “Be careful tomorrow night. Your parents and grandfather don’t know you’re here. Try to stay hidden, especially from your grandfather, okay?”
Out of courtesy, Lin Yuejiu nodded.
Xu Nian asked, “What do you mean by that? Yuejiu is walking straight and upright. Why would she need to hide?”
Lin Yimo didn’t bother explaining and repeated his warning to her once more.
Lin Yuejiu nodded again. “I understand.”
At that moment, Xu Nianshen remarked, “He seems to know something.”
“I think so too,” Xu Nian replied.
Xu Nian had a puzzled look. “What are you two even talking about?”
“Do you think he discovered that person’s true identity?”
“You and I were thinking the same thing. If he didn’t know anything, he wouldn’t have said what he just said to me.”
“Since he said that, just follow his advice and be careful.”
“Okay.”
After their conversation ended, Xu Nian still had no idea what had happened and was completely confused.
Chen Qianxi felt the same—she hadn’t understood a word. Could this be what it feels like to live in the world of smart people?
