Chapter 56 – Successfully Seduced
Lin Yuejiu pointed at the fallen cup and explained, “It was that cup. I accidentally knocked it over, then stepped on it and almost fell. Nianshen only pulled me because he was trying to help me.”
Father and Mother Xu: “Mm-hmm, got it.”
Lin Yuejiu: “……”
Your expressions don’t look like you actually got it.
Xu Nianshen looked at the girl’s flushed, flustered face. Taking a step forward, he shielded her and said, “Alright, Mom, Dad, it was just an accident. Nothing happened. You two can go downstairs now.”
They could tell how embarrassed she was and nodded. “Alright.”
Once Father and Mother Xu left, Xu Nianshen closed the door.
“They’re gone now.”
“Mm.” Lin Yuejiu still felt her cheeks burning, hot to the touch.
Xu Nianshen opened the other window, letting a cool breeze flow in. Gradually, the heat in her face eased, and she let out a small breath of relief.
When she saw him wiping the floor, she hurried over to help. Their hands accidentally brushed. They glanced at each other, and Lin Yuejiu quickly pulled her hand back, wiping another wet spot instead.
After cleaning up, she avoided his gaze. “Um… I still have things to do, so I’ll head out first.”
Before Xu Nianshen could say anything, Lin Yuejiu darted out of the room like a puff of smoke.
Downstairs, Father and Mother Xu were still sitting on the sofa. They looked up just in time to see the girl rushing down.
“Hey, Jiujiu, where are you going?”
“Um… it’s getting late, I should head back.”
“Alright, I’ll have the driver take you.”
“Thank you, Uncle, Auntie. I’ll come again next time.”
She slipped away quickly.
Father and Mother Xu exchanged a glance and chuckled.
So shy.
Upstairs, Xu Nianshen heard the car starting. He stood by the window, watching the car drive out of the Xu estate. Remembering her panicked expression just now, he lowered his head and laughed softly.
She was kind of adorable.
—
When the car dropped her off, Lin Yuejiu thanked the driver and ran straight back to the dorm.
Chen Qianxi was at her desk doing homework. She had a lollipop in her mouth, so her words came out muffled, “Jiujiu, you’re back?”
“Mm.”
Sensing something off, Chen Qianxi turned around, “Jiujiu, why’s your face so red? Did you eat something you’re allergic to?”
“…No, I just ran back. Maybe I overdid it, so…”
Chen Qianxi gave an “OK” sign and winked at her. “Got it, you were afraid of the dorm closing, right?”
Lin Yuejiu gave a polite smile, then rushed into the bathroom. Looking into the mirror at her flushed reflection, she quickly turned on the tap and splashed cold water over her face to cool it down.
Honestly, back in Xu Nianshen’s room, the heat had already faded. But the moment she saw Father and Mother Xu downstairs, everything came rushing back—her face burned again. Then the car windows were closed, no air coming in, leaving her to stew in her own embarrassment.
This was absolutely a black mark in her life. Not only had she pinned Xu Nianshen to the floor in such an aggressive position, but his parents had also witnessed it!? How was she supposed to face people after this? How was she supposed to face Xu Nianshen!?
Wait—what if Xu Nianshen thought she did it on purpose?
Groaning, she buried her face in her hands.
So annoying!
“Jiujiu? Are you done yet? I need the bathroom.”
She lowered her hands and answered, “Almost.”
After washing up, she tried to calm down and do her homework. But she just couldn’t focus. Frustrated, she slammed her pen down.
Chen Qianxi jumped at the noise. She’d always known Jiujiu as gentle and soft-spoken—she had never seen her this irritable. Carefully, she asked,
“Jiujiu, what’s wrong? Did someone upset you?”
Lin Yuejiu irritably rubbed her hair, “Mm… the math problems are too hard. I can’t do them.”
“Sigh, math is always like that. Not being able to solve it is totally normal. You’re working on the later sections now, right?”
“Mm.”
“Then don’t rush it. Just leave it for now, you can ask the teacher tomorrow.”
“Mm.” She rubbed her temples.
A few minutes later, Chen Qianxi finished her homework.
“Jiujiu, I’m turning off the lights.”
“Okay.”
The room sank into darkness.
Lin Yuejiu closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep. But the moment she did, the image of her pressing Xu Nianshen to the floor—looking as if she were about to force herself on him—flashed before her eyes, the stark black-and-white contrast stabbing at her nerves.
She jolted her eyes open and kicked her blanket in frustration.
So annoying!! She couldn’t sleep!
Right—if you can’t sleep, you can always count sheep. Counting sheep should eventually knock her out.
She obediently closed her eyes again and started counting in her heart:
One sheep, two sheep, three sheep, four sheep, five sheep… two thousand and forty-six sheep, two thousand and forty-seven sheep—
Lin Yuejiu sat up abruptly, staring at the pitch-black dorm room.
She, Lin Yuejiu, had officially developed insomnia.
—
The next morning, Chen Qianxi yawned as she greeted her. But when Lin Yuejiu turned her head, Chen Qianxi jumped back in fright, then leaned in to look closer, “Jiujiu, what happened to you? Why are your dark circles so heavy? You didn’t sleep last night?”
Lin Yuejiu nodded vaguely, slapping her cheeks lightly, “Something like that.”
“This is way too serious, isn’t it?”
Because of her fair skin and normally good sleep schedule, the dark circles stood out starkly on Lin Yuejiu’s face.
She gave Chen Qianxi a little smile, “It’s fine, I can hold on.”
Then she quickly lifted the blanket, got out of bed, and staggered off toward the bathroom. Chen Qianxi looked at her wobbly steps, afraid she’d collapse any second.
When Lin Yuejiu and Chen Qianxi entered the classroom together, the class monitor was holding a stack of homework. He was just about to greet them when he looked up and saw Lin Yuejiu’s dark circles. He froze in shock, “Goddess Lin, what happened to you?”
Lin Yuejiu yawned, tears welling at the corners of her eyes. She waved him off, “It’s nothing. Just didn’t really sleep last night.”
“Had a nightmare?”
“Insomnia.”
“Insomnia? Why insomnia?”
Lin Yuejiu didn’t answer. She went straight to her seat and laid her head on the desk.
The class monitor glanced at Chen Qianxi.
Chen Qianxi spread her hands, “She seemed pretty irritable before bed last night. Probably because she couldn’t solve a math problem.”
The class monitor looked at the slumped-over Lin Yuejiu and clicked his tongue, shaking his head.
“Top students are terrifying.”
“I think so too.”
The next second, something was placed in Chen Qianxi’s hands. She looked down—homework notebooks.
Chen Qianxi: “???”
“You came early, so help me pass them out.”
“What the—”
Before she could finish, the class monitor dumped the whole stack into her arms. A bit heavy, but Chen Qianxi caught them with both hands, glaring at him with her eyes.
The class monitor grinned, “Since you’re already helping, might as well go all the way. I still need to collect other subjects’ homework. Thanks a lot, Classmate Chen.”
Chen Qianxi: “……”
…Damn it.
